Kerry was too stoic and had no witty banter to counter anything Stewart said. The uncomfortable attitude showed and I doubt the appearance will help much. It makes me wonder about his ability in the upcoming debates, especially quick comebacks.
I do like the fact that the Daily Show is getting bigger fish these days even if they are boring.

As wormy as the guys who head the DNC and RNC are, especially Gillespie and that oily hair, he was clearly not bothered by the "adult" nature of some of Jon's jokes. Making it more obvious that Republicans talk like family values on tv, but they love a penis joke as much as the next guy.
Anyway, Kerry didn't appear to get the independent voters, he went to try and solidify himself with younger voters, The Daily Show is friendly to the democractic party, and also because it's just the hip show to be on now. I think Kerry got exactly what he wanted out of it politically and I also think he had a good time for once during what has to be a grinding and mind-numbing campaign.

and Bush won't have the guts to go on the show despite Stewart begging Gillespie to get him on.

BTW...I heared a good point today, Kerry choosing the Daily Show as his first post-Convention appearence could backfire with the mainstream media...it certianly's gonna piss Ted Koppel off!

I don't know the ratings difference, but I do think the quality of guests "The Daily Show" has had lately shows how popular it really is.
I would love to see Bush go on the show. I think he has a sense of humor and would handle himself well. But I don't expect him to, nor would I begrudge him for not doing so.

BTW...the all time highest rated Daily Show was Bill Clintons appearence...1.9 million...is that really a huge following?
Considering that last weeks MONK pulled in 4+million viewers, I think your streaching the word Huge.
Last weeks CSI re-run had 11 million...should Bush appear alongside Grissom and Co.?

not to turn this into mindless politics, but would the same people who claim W takes so much time off to play golf and ride his horseys in Crawford Texas and go camping at Camp David complain about him taking time away from the Oval Office to appear on Comedy Central?

If Bush wants to make the biggest late-night splash*, he should walk out on stage with Ah-nold on The Tonight Show.
This is based soley on ratings and not "hip", "trendy", "unfunny" or however else you want to attack Leno.

If Bush even wants to appear on a talk show, it will probably be the Tonight Show, which pulls in a 2.3 rating and 6 million nightly viewers according to it's site.

Now, that wouldn't surprise me. No way Bush would ever go on The Daily Show. The host is too liberal and it's too small of an audience compared to Leno which would attract more press and he'd get nice softball questions lobbed his way, much like Kerry got from Stewart.

Gotta take into consideration that even though some of those are equal or lower than the Daily Show, its a news program, and the clips of the interview will be circulated far and wide.

Oh, and with the whole "equal-time" thing, wouldn't Bush have to go on the Daily Show now?

"Roland Martin reeled in a big one for his weekly fishing show on the Outdoor Life Network. Baiting a hook beside him on a dock in Crawford, Texas, was President Bush, whose leisurely afternoon casting for bass was chronicled for "Fishing with Roland Martin" in an episode that first aired on Friday, August 6."

TDS with Clinton reached many more 18-34 and 18-49 year-olds than that Sunday's 'Meet The Press' and any primetime show on Fox News that night.
