Need ST:TOS episode help
when i was a kid i remember seeing an episode of star trek, but the only thing i remeber about the plot is that near the end one of the characters brings in a tattered american flag and the planet had had some sort of nuclear war of something like that. does this sound familiar to anyone and if so, does anyone know what the episode title is?
thanks.
thanks.

Sounds like that would be the 2nd season episode "The Omega Glory".

You ever wonder so many planets the Enterprise (NCC-1701 under Kirk) visited resembled Earth?
I mean, right down the clothing and customs, flags, even. Hell, I remember one looked exactly like Earth? (Miri)
This one planet has Nazis. Another one has gangsters. Here's one with Cowboys and Indians. Roman Gladiators. And who can forget the space hippies in a flying VW bus?
(Yes, I know it was because they were on a budget and had to use standing costumes and sets, but after a while it just seems bloody surreal. Like there has to be a reason behind it.)

I think most of those can be explained by the episodes themselves: human influence. Either a book left behind, a human "remaking" the society, or two warring sides providing arms to a planet in the middle.
But you're right, the budget was the real reason.

Coincidentally those episodes are definitely some of the worst ones. Well, except for Piece of the Action. I could watch Kirk explain the game of fizzbin and tell Scotty to give the guy on the other end of the blower a ride to his flop over and over.

Kirk: The name of the game is called, ah, Fizzbin.
Kalo: Fizzbin?
Kirk: Fizzbin...it's, ah, not too difficult. Each player gets six cards, except for the dealer, ah, the player on the dealer's right, who, ah, gets seven.
Kalo: On the right.
Kirk: Yes. The second card is turned up, except on Tuesday.
Kalo: On Tuesday...
Kirk: Uh-hmm. (Dealing) Ohhh, look what you've got two jacks! You've got a half Fizzbin already!
Kalo: Heh-heh! I need another jack?
Kirk: No, no! If you got another jack, why you'd have, ah, a shronk.
Kalo: A shronk?
Kirk: Yes, you'd be disqualified. No, what you need now is either a king and a deuce--except at night, of course, when you'd need a queen and a four...
Kalo: ...except at night...
Kirk: Right...Oh, look at that. You've got another jack! How lucky you are! How wonderful for you! Now, if you didn't get another jack, if you'd gotten a...king, why then you'd get another card, except when it's dark when you'd have to give it back.
Kalo: If it were dark on Tuesday?
Kirk: Yes, but what you're after is a royal Fizzbin, but the odds of getting a royal Fizzbin are astron--Spock, what are the odds of getting a royal Fizzbin?
Spock: I have never computed them, Captain.
Kirk: Well, they're astronomical, believe me. Now, for the last card, we'll call it a kronk. You got that?
Kalo: (completely muddled) What?

Kirk: All right, Scotty. We made a deal with Krako.
Scotty: We did, sir?
Kirk: Yeah. We're ready to make the hit. We're takin' over the whole planet.
Scotty: Do you think that's wise, sir?
Kirk: Suuuure! We can trust Krako, but we don't have any choice.
He's standin' about 12 feet in front of me, all ready to be our pal. Of course, Scotty ... I'd like to show him the ship, just to show him that we're ... uh ... we're on the level. But you know how it is.
Scotty: Aye. I know indeed.
Easily my favorite TOS episode. 'The Trouble with Tribbles' gets all the humor love, but 'A Piece of the Action' is the true gem. Ever since I first saw the episode, whenever anyone says "Right?" I respond with "Check!" And on the off chance I get a "Check?" I respond with "Riiiiight."
In a few years, the Iotians may demand a piece of our action!
