Last Comic Standing - 08/10/04

Episode #214/215.

A look back at the second season; the comedians give their final performances.

Producer(s): Jay Mohr, Peter Engel, Barry Katz.

Original Airdate: August 10, 2004.

This starts @ 8/7 Central tonight.

Looks like two hours of filler w/ three more performances thrown in before Thursday night's finale. They are really milking this sonofabitch dry - get it over w/ already!!!

Goldberg74 08-10-04 02:16 PM

Gary! Gary! Gary!!!

I think I'll start the TiVo at 7PM, then start watching around 8PM and zip through the boring stuff.

I love my TiVo! ;)

saoirse 08-10-04 03:25 PM

Does this mean they won't be performing until the second hour?

Roto 08-10-04 05:08 PM

Why would they need to recap the season? They do that with every performance

The way things are going they won't be performing until the last half hour.

briank 08-10-04 07:43 PM

Jim Norton was entertaining as always.

B.A. 08-10-04 07:49 PM

Too bad he wasn't able to continue w/ the show.

Todd's impersonations of Tammy and Corey were freakin' hilarious.

Todd has been the best part of this whole recap.

Steam 08-10-04 08:01 PM

Damn, I thought that it started at 9. My bad. And I missed Norton too. Damn!

Gary stinks and I don't like him!

P.E. 08-10-04 08:53 PM

I'd be happy if either John or Alonzo wins. I loved the bit about "The Chair"!

Alyoshka 08-10-04 09:35 PM

Does anybody remember the numbers? Specifically John's voting number...

B.A. 08-10-04 10:03 PM

Go to www.nbc.com

PeMo 08-10-04 10:06 PM

John's number is 866-FUNNY-93. (Alonzo is 91 and Gary is 92) It might be closed now - I think they said only 2 hours of voting.

I thought Gary and John were very close for the funniest tonight. Alonzo had a disappointing showing following last week. Funniest two bits to me:

Gary: "The guy was punching me in the face!"

John: "Apparently she wants those towels to go upstairs."

or something like that.....

Goldberg74 08-10-04 10:14 PM

Voted twice for Gary and once for John.

I liked John's set the best tonight ('clutterblindness' rotfl), but I had to vote for the consistent routines that Gary's done. He's worked hard for this this season.

Sorry Zoe. :(

indianajdp 08-10-04 10:40 PM

Thought Alonzo was pretty good (I vastly understimated him at the beginning of the series) but my vote(s) will go to John. I thought he has been rock-solid all season and Gary echoed my sentiments on him...he is just a high-energy guy that can deliver a great performance.

I thought he did that tonight, although it wasn't one of his best...but it was good enough in my book.

Norton rocked! Wish he could have been part of the whole show.

Where can I get an Opie & Anthony XM Satellite Radio shirt like he was wearing?

Hefron started weak then finished strong but not strong enough.
I voted for Gary cause I thought he was just a tad funnier then Alonzo tonight.

TornDimension 08-10-04 10:54 PM

alonzo has been pretty consistent, his performences ranging from 7 to 10.

i think gary's been pretty solid and having his few moments where he shines

heffron i think was a little weak. his acts consist of just a few jokes here and there that are really funny and rememberal, but what people forget is that the rest of his act was weak

norton owns all three of them

indianajdp 08-11-04 12:15 AM

What's the story with Norton, anyway?

I thought the bit about the chair & holding the purse was funny the first time I heard some comic do it about 20 years ago.

Gary did the best set tonight and deserves to win overall. I didn't start watching the show until the final 10 had been picked, so I never saw the auditions. Who were those two rude, effeminate men doing the judging? They were nasty just for the sake of it.

As for Jim Norton, I've heard him a little on the O&A show, but his set was the best of the night. I would love to have seen him in the finals.

Grandma Lee. Some cute jokes, but take away her age and she's got nothing!

TornDimension 08-11-04 12:30 AM

i've heard jim norton in cleveland and it was hilarious

he's one of those comics that's always pissed off about something

l

They were the judges that went to a dozen cities to pick twenty(probably out of 10,000), to perform in Vegas in front of a panel of celeb judges who then picked the 10 to be in the house. They are/were writers for the tonight show. And after they showed a montage of the bad stuff you would understand their hostility.

As for Norton, he was picked to move on but had already been contracted through Mtv to do some stuff during the time that LCS would be filming. So he had to go.

Feel free to correct any of this if it is wrong.

I have to give them credit for doing a decent job with the 2 hour recap concept. Unlike American Idol where it's a complete waste of time, they really slipped in a lot of new material that was interesting and brought back some entertaining comics with material we hadn't heard.

As for the show, John just doesn't do it for me. He's too high strung for me, and he beats jokes into the ground. It's funny when he first reveals the concept, but he always goes too far and tries to rely on spazz over comedy. I'd put him in the Top 4, but certainly not the best.

Before tonight, I was thinking Alonzo, and he did have a very solid set; but I think in the end, Gary's comedy style proved to be the most consistent and the most entertaining. He has a real talent the way he just slips in little jabs into his jokes, and I like his stage presence.

So, I'll go with:

1) Gary
2) Alonzo
3) John

But John will win.

I should be rooting for home town boy Heffron, but Alonzo seems to me to have the most genuine talent. (I will admit, though, his performance last night was off.)

Gary's appeal truly, truly escapes me.

Gary is a good looking guy that says some non-threatening stuff. Couples and singles can go to see him without one of them being grossed out. He has a wide appeal (not unlike Kathleen) but is at least somewhat funny.

John's alright, but he's not a star.

Alonzo is incredible, he should be the Last Comic Standing.

Duran 08-11-04 11:06 AM

I voted for Alonzo. I find him to be the most talented by far. Gary is okay - he has a good presence, and I enjoy his delivery, but he needs more "A" material.

tofu 08-11-04 11:33 AM

I'm voting twice for Alonzo and once for John. IMO, I think that Alonzo could definitely hold his own on a sitcom while I think John could be a sidekick type of guy especially with his energy.

There's just something about Gary that I don't find funny. IMO, Gary's an extra.
