The Bundys - Why would the creators of Married with Children give them that name?

The show was a comedy, and they name the family The Bundys. Whoooo, BUNDY!! But why? Why, when there's a very famous ex-serial killer named Bundy (Ted)?

Just curious.

I think I read somewhere that the creator was a wrestling fan, especially of 80s star King Kong Bundy. KKB actually appeared once on the show as one of Peg's relatives.

What Charlie Goose said. They were named after King Kong Bundy (that is what was said on one of those E! true hollywood story type shows about MWC).

IIRC, on the M:WC E! True Hollywod Story they said Al Bundy's name was a combination of Al Capone and Ted Bundy.

Why should the last names of serial killers dictate what names cannot be used in TV shows? Who are you? A producer for The Greatest American Hero?

King Kong Bundy was a guest star on MWC one episode playing a relative of Pegs (Devine was to play the mother but died before filming).

It was disclosed in like TV Guide at the time, that the Bundy family name did indeed come from King Kong Bundy.

IMDB show's this in his bio:

The Bundy Family on the television series "Married With Children" was named after him.

I think King Kong Bundy was in at least 2 episodes.

edit: He also played himself. Bud ended up wrestling him dressed as a bumblebee.

Wait, if he's Peg's relative was her name already Bundy before she married Al?

He played Peg's uncle Irwin. Peg's maiden name was Wanker.

("Peggy Wanker, don't bother to thank her")

BTW, I think Divine was supposed to play Peg's uncle Otto, not her mother. That would have been even better though. Of course, it's moot, since he died before the episode was filmed.
