That's my recollection as well. In fact, wasn't the joke about boxing being invented by gays the one he told during auditions last season, and one of the judges accused him of ripping it off? (It certainly isn't original to him.)

das Monkey 07-29-04 02:12 AM

Yeah, now I remember. Didn't Joe Rogan accuse him of stealing the joke?

The worst thing about Ant, and the reason I'll probably never find him funny, is that his setups are absurd. Stand-up comedy like his needs to come from realistic situations. Whether it really happened or not, "I was at the airport the other day, and I ran into this lady who ..." is realistic. "I was a fighter pilot during the Gulf War, and when shot down in the desert, I happened upon the Princess of Morocco ..." is not. If the setup is absurd, you know you're just being manipulated into some forced punchline, and his act is way too much of that.

He said he stole the joke about Gay people creating boxing! It was longer last season than this season and Joe Rogan said it was a stolen joke...Buddy Hackett disagreed with Joe, but either way Ant didn't make it. I have to agree with Joe, when I heard it last season I thought I had heard it before too, then all of a sudden Joe says its an old joke.

Bump for a reminder that this is on again tonight...How will they compare with American Idol on filling an hour with 58 minutes of crap and 2 minutes of actual show???

Tune in and find out!

Goldberg74 07-29-04 06:33 PM

I think I'll wait and hear it from y'all.

Rogan said that it was in Boiler Room. I have heard a few comedians use it, so who knows who originated it.

Goldberg74 07-29-04 09:06 PM

Looks like America's pick was...

Spoiler:
Jay London... and I was quite surprised. It was between him and Todd Glass.

(We had just got back from shopping and caught the last 10 minutes.)

movieking 07-29-04 09:07 PM

And the Wild Card goes to:

Spoiler:
Jay London?!?!?! WTF??? I thought that Todd Glass would win easily. It was down between those two. Not a good decision, IMO.

So, I only got to see 30 minutes of LCS :(

Interesting. During the credits of tonight's show, there was a paragraph that said (paraphrasing):

Due to breaking news, portions of Tuesday's show were not shown in one market. This did not affect the results of the vote.
If Chicago is the "one market" they're talking about, it seems to me like the voting would be affected if viewers in one of the largest markets in the country didn't see the final performer on Tuesday's show.

lukewarmwater 07-29-04 09:55 PM

Spoiler:
I think they choose Jay London because he did the feel sorry for me, please vote for me, please like me, sad bastard manipulative bullshit. He'll probably win it like dat did last year because of people feeling sorry for him.

Jray 07-29-04 10:05 PM

I want that hour of my life back :(. God, talk about wasting time to fill an hour. I cannot take one more minute of Jay Mohr. I think this show is just a way for that egomaniac to stroke himself in front of millions.

So we add one more back into the mix to get to 6 and then they eliminate half in one episode on Tuesday?!?! WTF? I have a vested interest in this show now since I've watched it from the beginning, but I'm not real happy with the way they're doing things.

Go Heffron!

Boot 07-29-04 10:49 PM

Thank goodness for Tivo. I scanned that hour down to about five minutes. An hour tp announce the winner of the "wild card"? Oh, I know, let's have all the contestants that performed Tuesday perform again! Yeah, that makes perfect sense! What complete and utter bullshit. I like the idea of this show, but stuff like this makes it one of the lamest reality programs, which is saying a lot.

Roto 07-29-04 11:18 PM

Shows just how bad that group was. But I don't think we have to worry about the wildcard winning the whole thing. Not a chance. It can't happen! It must not happen! Dear God, don't let the wildcard win!

FuzzyBallz 07-29-04 11:20 PM

[very very dry]ha ha ha[/VVD]

Holy crap, no wonder I never watched this show, the people on this show are NOT funny.

Jackskeleton 07-29-04 11:47 PM

Spoiler:
anyone think jay london has a snow ball chance in hell of winning everything? I highly doubt it.

TornDimension 07-30-04 12:45 AM

jay is not the best comic ever. he's slower than corey holcomb, and that's slow. i don't like the fact that he keeps repeating a little of the thing he just said, we heard it, it's not funny, so don't do that repeating bullshit.

the chance that jay will be in the final 3 - 5%
chance alonzo and kathleen will be in final 2 - 100%

Dvdsky 07-30-04 12:53 AM

I thought Jay was one of the worst ones Tuesday night. I thought his routine wasn't funny, but not only that, it was really starting to bug me. I really wanted it to hurry up and end... Here's hoping he's the first one voted off.

das Monkey 07-30-04 01:06 AM

I like how Bonnie claims the reason people don't get her comedy is that it's too intelligent. Lame. She was a complete trainwreck tonight and wasn't much better on Tuesday. She had a few really funny jokes early in the show, but she's been crashing and burning ever since. It has nothing to do with intelligence.

das

movieking 07-30-04 05:45 AM

I laughed when she said that as well. Does she do any material that is remotely intellectual? Referring to herself as a "c*&t"? Being drunk at work? "It's not your baby"? I've seen more intellectual comedy from the posters of DVDTalk.

Goldberg74 07-30-04 09:19 AM

I hope that Gary wins it all (or Alonso or John).

Yeah. Having stand-up comedians perform on a reality show about which one of them is the best stand-up comedian. That's crazy!!!!

I agree with scott27 -- how do they know that the preemption in Chicago didn't affect the outcome? Did Jay London win by more votes than the show has viewers in the Chicago area?

DRG 07-30-04 11:41 AM

My order of preference for the final 6, based on what I've seen on the show only...

1. Gary
2. John
3. Alonzo
