question about poker shows on tv

what percentage of hands do you think they actually show? obviously they only show the good hands that have action but im assuming that many hands we dont see - the ones where everyone folds and not everyone has a great starting hand.

also i just saw omaha poker last night - i know you can only use 2 of your cards max but if you want, can you use less than 2 or does it have to be exactly 2 of the 4?

I sure the percentage is below 50%; maybe far lower. I think the exception to this is Celebrity Poker Showdown - I think the majority of hands are shown there.

Omaha has to be exactly two cards in your hand and exactly three cards on the board.

The percentage of hands that we see depends on how long the final table lasts. For instance, the last two players in the Seven Stud game played heads up for 6 hours, but it was shown to us in like 15 minutes, so we probably only saw about 5%-10% of the hands.

thanks. i think with CPS a lot of the entertainment comes not from the cards themselves but the players - hence more of it is shown. plus those guys will play crappy hands anwyays

Oh and you MUST use 2 cards in Omaha. Hence if you hold all of the same suit it is difficult to hit a flush b/c 3 more must hit the board.

And if you play Omaha Hi-Lo, then the low hand isn't in effect unless there was 3 cards flopped that are 8 and under (IIRC). I wasn't used to playing this way, and depended on way too many low hands, and didn't catch on in time to adjust my betting/folding, and got bounced out quick in the only Omaha Hi-Lo tourney I've ever played.
