VH1's "I love the 90s"- programming blows it again!

First off- let me say I'm really excited about a new series here, and I loved the 70s and 80s versions of the show, so I'm sure I'll also love the 90s.

But I fail to see what VH1 is doing in programming this damn show. The premiere is on the 12th, they show 2 new episodes a night, and will have shown all 10 by the evening of the 19th! I don't know about the 70s, but this is the exact same thing they did with the 80s.

Don't get me wrong, I have them all set to record in my replay, and I love getting them all so quick, but WHY, when you have 10 brand-new, hour-long shows, that people are lookng forward to watching, WHY throw them out in the same week?? You could have 10 weeks of programming there, and they turn it into one? I just don't get it!!!

Anyone have a clue here what they're thinking?

Doesn't VH1 replay the shit out of these things? I can catch "I Love the 80s" nearly every day. I suspect the same will go for the "90s" version as well. VH1 isn't exactly the channel that people tune into at a specific time to catch a specific show.

They are trying to keep the viewer on the station for more than 1 hour. VH1 and other channels like it have very low channel "loyalty" their viewers flip around a lot. If they toss out like programming for 2 hours, they've done their job.

That was my initial thought, but then you don't see MTV showing a new season of "the Real World" over the course of a week, do you? or "Pimp my ride", or any of their other crappy programming?

As far as I know, this is the only series they do this to. I just find it odd.

This show is going to give my TiVo a workout. 2 shows per night, plus Last Comic, NYPD 24x7, Big Brother, Casino. Hopefully they'll be replayed later in the night.

I hope someone makes a sarcastic joke about a movie, TV show, song or fashion trend at some point.

He's been in the promos, so I fear he is.

The funniest one will be 1999.

And by funny, I mean it probably won't be that funny at all.

Couldnt they have at least waited until this decade was up before bringing in a bunch of people to reminisce about...what 5 years ago?

True, but the fact that they're making fun of the fact that they KNOW it's too soon makes me think it'll be funny anyway.

Oh, and cdollaz, it's Michael Ian Black. If we're going to start calling people we don't know or we've never met names, let's make sure we at least get their real names right.

It's Michael Ian Black. He's the only funny one, in my opinion.

Yes, it will be very refreshing to hear about Britney Spears, The Matrix, and Star Wars for the first time in 5 years. Oh, wait...

Michael Ian Black r0x0rs.

Come on... who can beat the comedic trio of Black, Sparks, and Rocca?

Abott, Costello, and an inanimate, slightly unhealthy cactus.

What do I win?

I liked those three, but I also thought Donal Logue had some great lines in the 80s Strikes Back shows. The part on Menudo, he said to prove they're still pre-pubescent so they won't get fired, they have to "drop those pantalones"

I expect Black, Rocca, and Sparks to actually be more sarcastic about a lot of the 90s stuff, especially the second half of the decade. I'm just figuring there'll be less of a nostalgic factor for most of it, especially from the commentators who weren't kids during the 90s. Unless they have people like Hilary Duff on there discussing her Barbie collection or something.

People who are criticizing this show and say it's too soon might enjoy it more than they think. We'll get to laugh and mock a lot of the 90s pop culture things that were so cool and super-hip at the time but now look as retro as anything from the 80s. I was watching "Singles" (from 1992) for the first time recently and couldn't get over how dated it looked, from the fashions to the music to the gen-x attitudes. It was flat-out hilarious, but i enjoyed it.

I think the schedule line up is great. this type of show can't carry an audiance for 10 weeks and putting it only an hour a night would still be to few for folks to get their fix. two episodes per night seems perfect.

What does Depeche Mode mean anyway? I like kinky sex with a scoop of ice cream.

I'm very excited for "I Love Last Week". When does that debut?

They actually DO have that for some time now. It's called "Best Week Ever" and I think it airs every Saturday or Sunday night. Then at the end of the month, they have "Best Month Ever".

Some of you people really need to lighten up.

It looks like it's going to be a pretty funny show. They've got a great lineup of topics and let's face it, 20 year olds basically grew up in the 90s. It's certainly worth talking about.

I don't really see this as a series, but rather an event or miniseries, so showing it in a week seems fine to me.

I can't wait to hear MIB talk about "The State" and the Pets.com sock puppet.

Maybe cdollaz was thinking of Thomas Ian Nicholas of Rookie of the Year and American Pie.

Who is that guy with the huge head and the teeny narrow shoulders? Is he on this show?

He's really a freakish looking guy. He is the real-life Mr. Mackey from Southpark.

Yeah, i saw this episode this morning. I was surprised to see it on since its big "premiere" is tomorrow night, but they did the same thing last weekend with their premiere of the GnR behind the music.

And i thought the episode was great.
