Nip Tuck: how is it?

Unless it's Buffy, Angel, or Sopranos, I typically refrain from buying TV series on DVD. The buzz I have heard on this is exceptional though, I am considering picking it up.
I do enjoy renting shows like Six Feet Under, but they don't make me want to buy. Is this similar and better, or is it just worth renting as well?

Rent the first disc and see if it grabs you. It's very addictive TV, though.

I don't know how many threads I have to post in to hammer away the fact that it is the best show on television.

It ain't no Six Feet Under. It is far far better.

Probably until they air episodes that make your assertion correct.

Nip/Tuck's a really cool show. I am a bit surprised at the level of the praise it's received from some, though. Overall, it's not the level of quality of TV's best, The Wire or The Shield or even Six Feet Under, but it is incredibly unique and very addictive. It's definitely worth the ~$35 it will cost to acquire it.

I love Nip/Tuck and I especially love the prices of FX shows so it was a no brainer for a TV on DVD addict like myself. I can't wait for the Wire because that has so much replay value, but I'm not too excited about what HBO will most likely retail the show for.

However if you're a fan of commentaries, then you will be highly disappointed as I was. There is not one commentary to be found on the disc. The featurettes are pretty good though, and it was a shock to me anyway that the mother was English.

It's a very good show. Hard to watch sometimes, even when it's not a surgery. There are some ridiculous plotlines (really disgusting at times) but it's extremely watchable.

Dr. Christian Troy is one of the most easily loathed characters I have ever seen on tv show.

I am about done with season 1 (rented) and I loved it. It may be more "exciting" that Six Feet Under at times, but it's not as good as in my opinion.

Plus, you can't rate a 4th season show against another one's first season. We all know that most shows lose quality (even if just a little, over time).

I really think they would need to replace Joely Richardson with Elisabeth Rohm to make it the best.

Some might say the same thing after the -fest that was going on (particularly here) after the yawner first season of a certain program.

Some also might wonder how not one single episode of Nip/Tuck made a viewer's top-50 episode list.

The only thing they are both good for is a nice Dynasty-like catfight in the pool of the Grand Wiamea.

Some also might wonder how someone as seemingly intelligent as yourself can't use a calendar.

I don't recall if you put a cut-off. I know Nip started last summer and if I recall correctly, a certain top-50 list was posted last fall. Hey, if I'm wrong about all the dates, then let Elisabeth Rohm show up at my door, keep her yap shut, and have her way with me.

Not too hard to check. You're wrong. The cut-off is clearly established in the first sentence of the list, and the first season of Nip/Tuck began almost 2 months after that cut-off. Prepare for a visit from Ms. Rohm.

Well the convenient sticky was gone, so I will be expecting that visit from no-talent.

I guess I'll have to trust you remembering Summer 2003 programming then for the next best-of list. That's a long time.

Were I to do a list this year , I wouldn't "forget" any shows. However, that doesn't mean it would make the list either.

Wasn't Ms. Rohm on Law and Order as well? I know she was a semi-love interest on Angel for a short time.

With the recent DDD sale I picked season one up on a blind buy. Now that I am half way through the season I am definitely glad I did. You can just chalk it up to another great show I started watching based on recommendations from you guys.

On a little threadcrapping note: I keep seeing different opinions of Six Feet Under? Is it worth buying? I've never even seen an episode, but that could have been said about Nip/Tuck, Monk, and the Dead Zone previously.

Hard to say. Personally, I think Six Feet Under is better than the 3 shows you've listed; however, it's at least twice the cost, and they're currently airing Season 4, which makes it difficult to catch up. I'd try to get it used or something. Even though there are a few who don't like it (glares to the North), it's one of the two or three best shows on the air IMO, and there's a pretty good chance you'll like it. It's just hard to recommend spending that kind of money on it.

Yeah - she is on it. Of course, I wouldn't go so far as to equate on with acting.

So did she make a cameo on Nip Tuck? I remember when she was on Angel thinking her acting wasn't really up to par for the show, and considering the show that's pretty bad! I would never have guessed someone would want her on a flagship drama for a major network. Wonder if she's been in bed with a few producers in her time?

Dang, didn't know she could hurt a show that much.
