The husband of a pop singer is found shot to death in his panic room. The only other occupant is his pet chimp, Darwin, who is found by police next to the body waving the gun. Sharona develops an attachment to the chimp and demands that Monk find the real culprit. Co-starring Carmen Electra, who was in exactly one scene.

Monk is back in a huge way. This was the funniest Monk episode ever.

I was dying when Monk locked himself in the panic room and went nuts, although there was a big hole cut in the door.
"Captain!"
"Monk, push the button."
"Captain! Can you hear me?!?"
"Monk, I can hear you. I can SEE you. There's a big hole in the door!"
"Captaaaargh, no air!"


Another great bit was Monk doing a slow breakdown as the chimp tears his house apart. "Chewing, and peeing."

Lt Disher: "Thus, suicide by monkey."
Sharona: "Thus, theory by monkey."

The captain interrogating the monkey was funny as well, but it got a tad too slapstick with him running around, trying to incite the chimp to shoot him. "Get your fingers out of your ears, I'm talking to you! Are you laughing at me?"

Classic!

I can see your point. No police officer would hand over a gun like that without visually checking to see that it's empty. Especially with a boob like Disher.

The door looked dangerous, the way it swooshed open. What if you couldn't get your arm out of the hole in time? It would get mangled.

Those two minor things are why you didn't like this episode?

The flashlight bit when they were all talking in teh dark cracked me up too.

A very funny episode in my opinion.

Great transition from the Chimp screaming into the theme song. Hardly noticed the difference.

Since Monk and Disher are usually the ones that are acting or talking crazy, it was great to see Buffalo Bill trying to get the chimp to shoot him. Good episode.

I love this show... but two episodes and two clunkers so far.

This show has always walked the line between drama and comedy, and done it well. We laugh at Monk at one moment, but then really feel for him at another.

And while Monk is a great detective, Disher and Stottlemyre are not total idiots either. Well... until now. Disher has really been dumbed down for two episodes (his performance in NYC and then... handing him a loaded gun?) and Stottlymre... that interogation scene was funny... but at the expense of the character. Stottlymre of Seasons 1 or 2 would never have done that.

Now.. the scene in his apartment with the monkey? With his Dr? and when the landlord comes in and says "You can't sell this place!".. that was classic Monk.

So after next week's repeat, hopefully Episode 3 gets the balance back in order.

It sure was. My jaw was on the floor as I watched Monk *not* reacting to the destroyed apartment. Hilarious.

Certainly a better episode for me than the NY adventure, but still a ways to go until we get back to classic Monk.

The chimp in Monk's apartment was the best part.

I enjoyed it, but I did wonder why they didn't just do a gunshot residue test on the chimp. That would be a different show though, I guess.
