A new Directivo question.

I will be getting this installed this Thurs. I am new to directivo so please forgive me if this is a common question.

I saw on Tivo's website (not directv's) that any series 2 receiver would allow the user to schedule recordings from the internet. I am wondering if this is possible with directivo. I am getting the RCA DVR80 receiver and I can't find information on wether or not it is a series 2 receiver.

Thanks

Yes, the DirecTiVo is a Series 2.

No, it does not have Home Media Option (which includes internet scheduling). Therefore, it's not really "every" Series 2, only every standalone Series 2.

I believe it can be possible if you want to hack it, however.

I wish that the DirecTivo would have HMO enabled.

I have a standalone Series 2, and I'd love to be able to watch shows on either Tivo. Not to mention the internet scheduling.

Maybe oneday it will be available.

Wow, this thread is a blast from the past. What an idiot I was for ever questioning the awesome greatness of a Tivo.

Everyone was right - how did I ever get along without one?

make sure you punch in the 30 second skip hack.
s p s 3 0 s
(s)elect
(p)lay

do it while your watching a playback. you'll here a noise if you did it correctly. now everytime you press the advance button, it skips 30 seconds.

And if you have an unhacked directivo, you therefore don't have 4.0 and folders, so, the next best thing is a sorted NP List.

Slow

Zero (i.e. 0)

Record

Thumbs Up

(see, it spells 's0rt')

Then after a few seconds, the bottom of the screen will change, and say to press info for options. Press 3 (instead of info) to sort your NP list alphabetically. (If this info was given previously in this thread... how do you expect me to know that? )

You can have HMO and the other options available to standalone units if you really desire

I have two DirecTivo units and they are both "enhanced".

I've was considering getting one and decided to pass for 3 reasons.

1. Not much on TV I like to watch regulary, and I don't have much free time anyway.

2. I'd probably end up watching more TV, as I had a stand alone Tivo in the past that got fried by lightining and watched more, which would cause my school work to suffer as well as take time away from other activities.

3. No phoneline (or broadband), so I have to set it up elsewhere, which is a hassle, and deal with nag messages.

Another minor concern, is I really don't want them to drill a second hole into my apartment for the second line, given that the first one already violates my lease.

Next thing is to have 2 of them in your house. That is what I have.
