That's the reason I was always spoilering things. I don't come into this thread until after I've seen the day's episode, but I figured some people might and didn't want anyone crying foul that I 'ruined' the show for them.

A lot of people on the board like to error on the side of caution with regards to spoilers.

Well, so much for my gut prediction. I'll refrain from making another one.

Oh what the hell... I bet Ken will lose on a Friday!

Yep, for example, it won't start for 30 minutes where I live (but if I really really cared about finding out, I wouldn't be in this thread until after it aired each day).

If only everyone were as logical as you. ;)

This has happened with shows (and threads) in the past, too. We could even extend the "spoiler period" further because some people might record the show, and they might not watch it until late in the evening or the next day. People that live on the west coast and are browsing the forums close to a particular show's airtime just need to be aware of that and not click on that show's thread if they're worried about spoilers.

Bust 07-07-04 10:47 PM

Okay, if you say so.

It's not like I prefer using spoiler tags. Just thought it was curteous.

Hoonster 07-08-04 01:00 AM

I think the solution on the spoiler tags is to "title" what the spoiler is about... like some people have done w/ statements like "7-7-2004 result". That way, someone knows before they check the spoiler what to check and not check.

I guess the *key* spoiler people want to avoid is the "when Ken loses" spoiler that's been discussed a little bit. I guess just put a "title" on that, too... "Ken's last show" :)

today's show result
Spoiler:
Ken wins again, now up to $868,960

Do you know what win number that was (not using spoiler code since it was yesterday)? I read the spoiler about when he actually loses (unless it's wrong of course) and want to make sure I watch his final episode.

MEJHarrison 07-09-04 12:38 PM

I believe it was win 27.

Chrisedge 07-09-04 01:21 PM

So what show does he lose on?

that's what I would like to know too. I haven't been watching this but have been reading about it here. I do want to see the ep. when he loses though.

Re: the post above mine (contains spoiler info about (supposedly) when he loses and how)
Spoiler:
I read a spoiler on another site that cited a NY Post article saying that Ken loses after his 29th win, which would make Monday's show his final win, and Tuesday's show the show on which he loses (because of a mispronunciation, according to the spoiler I saw).

Ranger 07-09-04 04:57 PM

WTF! Did anybody see today's episode - the challengers were pathetic - especially with the final jeopardy question!

das Monkey 07-09-04 05:24 PM

Yeah, that was terrible. What a beatdown. Who even let that Kate woman on the show?

I think her home is looking for her. She's probably been missing for days.

I loved when the one idiot said Gale Sayers, who had a hella-short career, instead of Walter Payton when they asked who held the record for consecutive starts. -ohbfrank-

mikehunt 07-09-04 10:16 PM

she kept forgetting to ring in

Da Thrilla 07-09-04 11:16 PM

I wonder if he can make a million! -eek-

Crocker Jarmen 07-09-04 11:19 PM

I felt so embarrassed for that poor woman. Especially the last time she answered without ringing in. She had the right answer but Ken got to answer it instead. And then the next question on the board was the final Daily Double.

If you're interested in this and haven't already, you need to check out the Television Without Pity board someone (I'm too lazy to go back and check, sorry) posted a few weeks back. I spent an hour reading their massive Jepardy thread. Ken himself has been a heavy contributer to it. So is the woman who was on a few days ago (the lady who sounds like Yeardly Smith with the cat on Prozac). As well as one of the shows producers, so I've learned an awful lot about the behinds-the-scenes stuff.

A different theory concerning Ken's winning streak that seems pretty popular.
Spoiler:
The rumor is that Ken has not even lost yet. Allegedly he's played till the end of the season, and is on hiatus till they start taping the new shows in a few months. One of the things that gives this creedence is that Ken will not be appearing on something called 'Tournement of Champions', where the season's best contestants play against one another.

Edit to add: It was Darq

kevin75 07-09-04 11:36 PM

that would certainly be an interesting development.

coladar 07-10-04 12:47 AM

Just finished watching tonights episode, and wow, that poor woman. People have been pondering whether Jeopardy was milking Ken for all the extra ratings his streak is worth by putting on a lower quality of competitors, and after tonight, I'm having a hard time arguing against that belief. How on earth does someone like that even get an audition for the show, much less make it on?

And I'm curious what the deal is with the lack of spoilers concerning Ken's future. The show has an audience, cast and crew, contestants, Ken's family, etc... In this day and age, for something like Ken's future streak on the show to remain as unknown as it has is rather odd. I don't see how not one person (Particularly another contestant or audience member) has thus far leaked any credible information. Odd.

Crocker Jarmen 07-10-04 01:20 AM

That is interesting.

I can understand why people who work on the show would keep mum (they want to keep their jobs), and it makes sense that contestants would want to keep quiet (I learned they don't recieve their prize money for months, after their episode airs. So I'm sure that they sign one massive legal document, that probabely stipulates they won't be paid if they reveal anything about the show).

But the studio audience... what could possibly intimidate them enough to comply with not talking about the show. You'd think someone would have said something.

The New York Post doesn't exactly have a ton of credibility these days (or ever, really).

astrochimp 07-10-04 11:15 AM

Yeah but lets see how Ken would do on a real game show like the Price is Right :D

The only thing he'd be good at is telling you the exact price of lotion and tissues.

clemente 07-10-04 04:44 PM

I do not know when he will lose....but I do know to who....the great Tony Kornheiser! :)
