I'm blown away by this year's upfronts. This is just getting utterly ridiculous, the WB had always seemed like the one network that had their act together. Their schedule for this season, 03-04, was well planned and irregardless of the ultimate quality of the shows, it showed that there were some people with a clue in charge.
This year? Well, it's better than NBC's horrible schedule, but come on. Their press release says it all: "While comedies have not always performed well coming out of dramas." This is from their actual press release! I'll admit, I'm fuming over the lack of Dark Shadows on the schedule, but can't the WB take a hint from their own press release? I really hope the Green Screen show makes it, because those segments were always my favorites from WLIA?, but the scheduling decision just wasn't smart.
Keeping "What I Like About You" on the schedule is risky, but obviously the WB is banking on Amanda Bynes becoming a break-out star. That said, it just isn't a great idea to have that lead off their Friday night schedule.
If I were to guess, the WB is going to have a lot of holes in it's schedule by November sweeps. Their entire Thursday night line-up is almost destined to fail, the two new shows on Wednesday are goners, What I Like About You and Commando Nanny have a good chance of tanking and Gilmore Girls has been dying a slow death on Tuesday. Gilmore will probably make it through the entire season, but they needed to shake the schedule up and use One Tree Hill at 8 on Tuesday to launch a new show.
The only possible success story I see on their schedule is Jack & Bobby on Sunday, which I have no interest in watching. I'm just shocked the same network that design last season's schedule, which I felt was the strongest of all six networks considering the WB's target audience, put out this disaster. From the looks of the WB, NBC and ABC's schedules thus far, reality programming is finally taking it's toll on quality scripted programming.

I could barely make it through reading some of those descriptions of the new dramas. They sound awfully convulated and nothing leaps out as "must-watch" to me, but I'll read the early reviews and see if anything is worth it. I didn't initially plan on watching Everwood either but it ended up being one of my favorite shows.
My only WB shows will be Everwood, Gilmore Girls, and Smallville (although I can barely stand that show anymore.)

No Angel means no WB for me. I would have tuned in for a Dark Shadows show, but I don't see that, so I won't even be going to the EB. Looks like all I have this year to watch is True Calling (if the rumors of it being picked up is true).

I certainly recommend giving Blue Collar TV a shot. If Blue Collar TV is half as funny as the Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie (and I recommend buying or renting the DVD), then I will be a devoted viewer. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound Ron White will be a part of this project.

Very happy to see GFL return. It's their best comedy. Sad to see JKX go, but it's gotten a bit stale, and too many people recognize him now, so I can see why it's gone.

It's really a shame, because with the exception of that annoying neighbor, the show was decent. It certainly was leaps and bounds above any show named "Commando Nanny"...

The Green Screen show has a pretty good chance of being awful, but I'll probably watch it anyway, just to get my Colin Mochrie fix.
I'm sure that I'm going to have to watch Smallville at least in the beginning of the next season to catch the resolution of tonight's inevitable cliffhanger, but if the show doesn't start improving, then I could really see it falling off my radar.

Well I'm left with only "Grounded for Life" - which I have to continue to praise WB for rescuing from the FOX cemetary. I wonder how long before they axe this as well.
To think only a few years ago I was mostly watching WB shows!

Smallville, unless there are some dramatic changes next year, I might not watch it live anymore for its HDTV beauty!

I'll continue to do what I do now with Smallville -- read the spoilers before the show and watch if it sounds remotely interesting.
Good thing they kept Charmed, otherwise known as the Worst Show Ever.

They showed a preview for "The Mountain" during tonight's finales - you know that show is going to full of all kinds of cheesy WB goodness.

Wow, my time with WB seems to have been limited to one season. I started watching Angel this past season, but judging by their new schedule, no chance in hell I will be catching anything next season.
And anything even remotely related to Jeff Foxworthy or those other incredibly bad (IMHO) comedians on the Blue Collar comedy tour just makes me want to

Does anybody know why WB spent $2mil on the Lost in Space pilot and then didn't pick it up? Any further info? Perhaps we'll see it midseason?
I'm always looking for more space-based sci-fi.

Well if they spent $2M for a pilot, then I'm assuming a series would be very expensive to produce. Sounds cost-prohibitive. Plus maybe the pilot sucked.

Just for the record...
While I hate the WB for cancelling Angel, I'm definitely going to give Global Frequency a try. I don't know who's in it or who's writing it, but if it's half as good as the comic it's based on, it will blow away everything that's on the WB (and several other networks for that matter). Seriously, I would encourage everyone to give Global Frequency a chance when it debuts (and pick up the comic in the meantime).
