Cinemax or Showtime?
Upgraded to digital cable today and was only doing it to get HBO. For $3.00 more a month I could upgrade another package and get a 2nd premium channel for 12month promotion.
I took Showtime. I did however get to choose from Starz, Flicks, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax.
Was showtime a good choice. I've heard some of their shows are pretty good and they do show boxing which I do watch.

I'd definitely take Showtime over Cinemax. Cinemax mostly just shows the same movies that HBO had 3 months ago. The difference between Cinemax and HBO is that Cinemax only shows movies and porn.
Showtime's series are good. I like Dead Like Me, Penn and Teller and Family Business. I haven't watched any of the dramas. They're pretty weak for movies, but so is HBO. Starz is easily the best for mainstream movies in my opinion, but nothing beats Deadwood on HBO right now.

Skinamax is great for soft porn - that's it. Showtime offers one of the greatest shows to ever grace television in Penn & Teller Bullshit. Plus it offers Family Business. Of course, Family Business is done for the season. Showtime has a fair amount of soft porn as well.

studios contract with the different premium channels to offer first run movies. showtime has contracts and hbo has contracts, hbo and cinemax are tied together.
if you have hbo, showtime is the better compliment, both for first run movies and because they had some good series.

Unless you want movies (and you should have them all on DVD anyway
), Showtime is the only choice (other than HBO) for original programming. Skinemax is the Shannon Tweed/Joan Severence Network, and Stars is mainstream movies.

Good. I'm not a real big movie buff but now that I have premium again I'll probabl watch what I can. It's all new anyway.
das I do have quite a few for my standards (100 dvds) but I bet I've only watched 15 and I'm willing to bet 75% of them still have the wrapper on them
*gasp*

cinemax - good for the soft porn
showtime - good for their original programming, and they show a variety of movies, unlike the same 10 of the week that HBO shows
Stars - They have stars cinema, which is the only all widescreen channel that I get.
