Palmer has his moments, but Wayne is just... wow.

Damn fine episode. Great shootout, and minimal Chloe. Although I'll throw in, "I'm just trying to be a friend, Kim, that's all."

I don't think it was Keeler, but Shrry who scared him the most. He thought she might go to the police very soon.

One of the few things I've truly loved this year is the emergence of Michelle Dessler: Badass. (It's probably just me, but she strikes me now as a character who probably acts a lot like Hannigan in American Pie: smacking the taste out of Tony's mouth and going "Say my name, bitch!")

One small problem: she gets a signal and immediately dials 1-800-RETARDO

Charlie Goose 05-11-04 11:56 PM

Excellent episode, very tense. Michelle looked so hot with that determined look on her face while trying to convince Saunders' henchman to release her. Nice swerve with the bloody nose too. This season has been much better than S2.

"Kim, is there going to be an us?" :yack:

Two minor complaints.
First, Jane Saunders was so defiant an hour ago, and now she's terrified to be with her father based on what she was told by the feds who kidnapped her? It just seemed a bit rushed to me.

Second, a whole team was there to get Saunders, yet he's able to escape on foot. Nobody ever heard of cutting off the retreat?

I read in TV Guide that there were televised messages in L.A. letting residents know that F-16s were going to be used for filming, so they wouldn't panic as they were flying by.

JamesBrian 05-12-04 12:13 AM

I used to hate Michelle, but during the season she's gone from the Mischa Barton acting method (look down to the left, then to the right, furrow brow, never make eye contact, keep typing) to the Michelle Yeoh style (look you in the eye while she kicks you in the cojones). Remember last year when everyone used to wair for those "holy sh**te" moments? This ep had a half-seasons worth. Two more to go, can't wait.

Patman 05-12-04 12:50 AM

I was impressed by the F-18s coming in to blow that copter up. That was fun.

Chloe is so in love with Chase, it's ridiculous.

The Palmer subplot feels like it should be ominous, but it feels like a bad piece of political fiction.

hahn 05-12-04 12:56 AM

I have to echo comments about Michelle. The more I'm seeing her in 24, the more I'm thinking, DAMN she's fine! Major props to listening to Jack and going back so that they'd have a chance to capture Saunders.

Derrich 05-12-04 01:22 AM

Anyone else think that Chloe has already slept with Chase? It looked like she was hinting it to Kim that she knew Chase a whole lot better than Kim.

D

^ Maybe the baby is Chase and Chloes love child?

Great episode, I just dont see how they can resolve everything, especially containing the virus, in 2 hours. I get the feeling a miracle cure will pop up around 12:45.

Deftones 05-12-04 02:02 AM

Have they ever showed the clock during the show before? I noticed they showed it when Palmer made the decision to get the bottle back from Sherri.

It is about time there were some explosions and gun fire. I've missed it dearly.

Yeah, I've seen it during the show on many occasions. Usually near the end of the episode.

I can even let the pill bottle thing go, since we get more of Keller, but, maybe it was just me, when Jack and Tony were at the payphone I kept getting the feeling Jane was going to run.

I kept getting the feeling that I was watching "Die Hard: With a Vengeance". That whole scene felt lifted from it.

I also thought Saunders jumping out of the SUV and yelling to his daughter was laughable, and not very probable. The fact that he was able to escape ON FOOT, was another laughable situation.

I don't think one 2 second call to an F-18 would get them to just fire a missile at a target, without getting some sort of authorization.

But, I did enjoy the episode, overall. :) I just think they need to clean house with some of their writers.

Bandoman 05-12-04 08:08 AM

I always like these threads, with the exception of das Monkey's constant, sycophantic, uncritical praise which completely and deliberately ignores the glaring logical inconsitencies.

The Palmer storyline sucks out loud.

The hostage exchange sequence was done well. I was hoping Michelle would get killed or gravely wounded, ratcheting up the tension between Bauer and Almeida for the last hour.

How are they going to wrap everything up in one hour?

Still a fun hour of television, and better than anything else I watched this week (except for Babylon 5, season 5, of course. :) )

uteotw 05-12-04 08:28 AM

Very good episode. Great Tony/Jack stuff. Even the Palmser stuff interested me, because he DID lie to the police to cover up his ex-wife's involvement, and now it's coming back to bite him.
(I guess everyone but the goon guarding her knew Michelle nosebleed was fake, but oh well...)
It will be interesting to see what happens now, and how they keep the tension up, with Saunders caught. (Agree with above-posted about Saunders conveniently running away despite 489 special ops agents swarming the entire area...)

They won't. There are two hours left to the season. :D

I agree - I found that to be rather implausible. That said, last night's episode was good. The F-16 ending was a nice touch.

Dr. Rosenrosen 05-12-04 09:18 AM

And why the heck is Saunders with the team in the first place? Couldn't he have had his minions do the work for him?

I thought the last 10 minutes of the show were fantastic, wow-worthy. But when Keeler opens that envelope and shows Palmer the picture of... the PILL BOTTLE... Groan!

lisadoris 05-12-04 09:40 AM

Of course the one episode everyone touts as the best ever is the episode I miss because of a VCR malfunction! Anyone know if FX is going to repeat or do I just have to buy the DVD?

Rypro 525 05-12-04 09:47 AM

like what they plan to do next week
Spoiler:
if i saw it right, since saunders doesn't tell jack and tony where the vials to the virus are, they are going to put jane in the chandler plaza hotel

I guess he figured Jane might try to run away if she didn't see her father there, thinking it was all some crazy CTU plot.

I assume the jets were already in place, as a sort of "you got away last time, but not this time" response. It was pretty satisfying to see the helicopter get blown to bits.

rotfl

Tommy Ceez 05-12-04 11:00 AM

Im pretty sure that Palmer authorised full cooperation with CTU at the beginning of the crisis

I just thought of something funny...since most of us have cell phones with EVERY number we call programmed in speed dial, if you were to knock out a goon and steal his cell phone to try to escape...

...would anyone here even remotely remember how to manually dial ANYONES phone number other than calling yourself at home?

Seriously, when making calls from my landline, I still use my cellphone as my electronic phonebook to remember numbers. Maybe the general work number is all Michelle knows. Hell, If you asked me to call my G/F right now, without speed dial, I couldnt do it (and I bought her the phone 3 years ago!)

Well, when they called in for air support, they clearly didn't have F-18's on standby. They just said that the closest air support were some F-18's.
