L&O update!!!
Zap2it has a story on contract negotiations between Dick Wolf, Universal and NBC for re-upping deals for the three exisiting shows. The cools stuff is in the last paragraph...
http://www.zap2it.com/index
"Trial by Jury," which is a probably midseason entry for NBC, looks like it may be led by a familiar face from the "Law & Order" family. Jerry Orbach, the longest-serving cast member of the original show, is expected to move over to the new series. Meanwhile, Dennis Farina ("Crime Story," "Get Shorty") is in talks to fill Orbach's shoes on "L&O."
NBC announces its 2004-05 schedule on Monday, May 17.
I had been neglecting L&O this season, but a weekly Dennis Farina?!?!? Hells yeah!

Dennis Farina would be a great replacement for Orbach. Now if they could only work on the Order side by canning Rohm.
I've also heard rumblings that Jerry Orbach's role on Trial by Jury would be more involved than what we were originally led to believe - sounds like he will be working for an investigative unit of the D.A.'s office.

I was thinking that Orbach's sudden departure was a little more shady than we were led to believe. I wonder if they offered him more cash to switch shows. He's a L&O icon. He'll be on there until he gets to be Steven Hill's age.

Not sure about Dennis Farina though...good as a cop but more like L&O: Chicago than L&O.
And we've already got the obligatory fire Elisabeth Rohm comment.

It's official

DOINK DOINK: Law & Order has tapped acting vet Dennis Farina (Midnight Run, Get Shorty) to replace Jerry Orbach next season. As previously reported, Orbach is transferring to spinoff No. 3, Law & Order: Trial by Jury, which debuts on NBC at midseason. Although Farina's character is still being fleshed out, exec producer Dick Wolf tells TV Guide Online that the 60-year-old Crime Story star will be playing an "Italian cop who's an iconoclast... and a confirmed bachelor." Adds Farina: "He's going to be a little out of the ordinary."

I know some day, if we are patient, if we ask you real nice, you'll stop beating around the bush and tell us how you really feel about Elisabeth Rohm.

But his subtle approach is much more humorous.

If I had joined dvdtalk in 2001 instead of 2000 (when she first started on my beloved L&O), my user name would be Anti-Rohm.

I liked her on Angel.
I liked her on Angel.
I watched the first couple seasons of Angel, and she did seem to have a tiny bit of acting ability back then. I don't know what happened after Dick Wolf signed her up.

More potentially fantastic news from tvguide.com:

Carey/Jamie is favorite of all the ADAs. While I would prefer to see her return to the flagship to boot blondie out of there, this would do nicely. Quite nicely. I'm having a feeling that Trial by Jury could become my favorite of the L&Os.
Hopefully, they'll have Neil Gordon as defense counsel on occasion.
ORDER RESTORED: It's not the return of Angie Harmon, but this'll do quite nicely: Former Law & Order star Carey Lowell is in talks to headline the franchise's upcoming third spinoff, Law & Order: Trial by Jury, TV Guide Online has learned. "There's been some early discussions and she's absolutely interested," confirms Lowell's manager. It's believed the actress — who in real life is married to Richard Gere — would reprise her role as onetime ADA Jamie Ross, a character she played from 1996 to 1998. In a recent interview with TV Guide Online, exec producer Dick Wolf hinted that some "familiar faces" from L&O's past might be joining Jerry Orbach when Jury debuts on NBC in early '05.

In a related baffling move, this was announced today:
F-ing morons. We don't need the crappy Rohm-infested recent seasons on DVD! Get on with the classic L&O. I'm not starting to collect them until S4, so come on you dickheads at NBC/Universal.
Law & Order - Season 1, Season 2...Season 14?!?!

Universal Studios Home Video dropped a bombshell today, skipping a dozen seasons of Law & Order and announcing Season 14 for release on Sept. 7th!
After releasing Law & Order - The 1st Year in Oct. 2002, and Law & Order - The 2nd Year just a few weeks ago, all the fans have been asking is "how long before we see the 3rd season?"
But today Universal added to their official release calendar the 9/7 street date for Law & Order - Season 14, which just concluded this past Wednesday. The reason probably has to do with the departure of a long-running character on the show, as this person heads toward the new spin-off, Law & Order: Trial By Jury (currently planning to debut next January). We'll avoid the name and the spoiler, but you know what we're talking about unless you've lived in a dark cave for the past couple of months.
Universal didn't say a single other thing about this release, just the title and the date. Stay tuned, and we'll bring you more about this just as soon as it's announced.

So let me get this straight, they're going to go from "Hi I'm Lenny" to "man those years just flew by" without any explination? Wait, the character didn't even arrive until S3 right? Oh man am I glad I decided against collecting these sets.
