American Idol - 5/4/04 - "Big-Band" Themed Music

I think that performing music that's not highly popular is a good thing--as it will force the audience to turn a more critical ear to the performance instead of merely comparing to the originators.

Where will John's votes go? An informal tour around the web seems to indicate George, Jasmine and TV off in that order.

I think too, after last weeks big voting, we'll see a big of a drop off this week.
Maybe not...

Not trying to be rude, but wouldn't it be nice to go back to letting Y2KFalcon start these threads with all the extras he put in the first post (like a poll)? just a thought.

I believe there's a rule that you can't start these more than 24 hours (?) before the show airs.

Rock is a talent that this show excludes pretty early on. You think they suck at Latin music, Rock would be ear-bleedingly bad.

Given LaToya's background as a wedding singer, I imagine she could pull off a rock song.

I agree....rock done with cheesy karaoke music would be painful.

Make that another. I like the polls/extras and why not just stick with the old thread until the day before? There's nothing really to talk about yet related to next week's show and if you started a poll now some bozos will go ahead and start voting.

BTW, I am another who doesn't like to open a page in the idol thread and see 9 out of the 10 posts from one individual...

They did a big band night on the first AI... I was expecting a train wreck, but it didn't turn out to be that bad. Nikki McKibbin's "Hard Hearted Hannah" was actually one of the most memorable performances on AI for me.

That said, Big Band night on the first AI had Tamyra, Justin, Kelly, Christina, R.J. and Nikki. Given the talent that's left in AI3, and that their talent is much more suited to a specific genre then we saw in AI1, this ain't going to turn out well. I've got a feeling my anticipated train wreck from two years ago is going to come to fruition on Tuesday...

And another vote for y2kfalcon. People said the same thing last week about not starting a thread this early, and here it is again... The polls were interesting and useful; last weeks thread sucked without them.

Kelly Clarkson's performance of 'Stuff Like That There' was the best performance of the AI1 season IMO.

Not that it really matters, but 15 posts and 195 page views says you're wrong...

A ham sandwich could get 15 pots and 195 views.

In fact, I think I'll put that theory to the test.

Gruocho's thread has you beat on views after just a few minutes. 10 replies, 240 views. Ham sandwich's are more popular than the remaining contestant's on American Idol... There's a shock.

Different forum...different people...different posting intensity.

Proves nothing.

Lets get this back on track...

Yeah but a good portion of the posts that aren't yours aren't about next week's show at all but rather expressing displeasure that you started this thread so early and that you took over for someone who was doing a better job with the thread.

Sorry to be so blunt but you have proven to be pretty stubborn. You generally don't seem to respond to gentle hints and suggestions.

I hate all of these early threads about shows that have not aired. I think that new threads shouldn't be started until the episode has aired somewhere - not even the same day of the thread. Any buildup about the episode should be in the previous episodes thread (chances are a lot of the talk would be from the spoiler given at the end of that episode). From some of the comments I have read in various threads in the forum, I don't think that I am the only one.

And to add slightly to the topic of the thread, I agree with Howiefan in that Clarkson's Stuff Like That There was probably one of the best jobs on any song on any AI. Most other people have butchered it though.

I think it is ok to start a thread the day off, but before it airs, because often a thread will remind me that a show is on. For instance, when Angel returned from reruns.

Also, for most plot based shows some people will avoid the preview, so you can't talk about the next episode without spoiler tags and that can be a pain in a thread about the current episode.
