My brother got a ride to school in the Oscar Meyer Weiner-Mobile once. I saw the pics - pretty damn funny.

great show, I was just wondering who pays for the work? they put in alot of money into these cars. best ep for me was the honda, loved when the girl told grandma that xzibit was going to pimp her ride, and zxibit was like fix, fix her ride :)

WCC does the work for free because they are get great advertising by the show(not that need it, due to most of their clientele being millionaires)

and the actual products are donated by the companies for air time as well, that is why they mainly use Clarion decks in the cars.(greta company, but they could use better decks)

BT 04-08-04 01:10 PM

But that ride is already pimped out Scorch :p

I guess it could use more chrome and some Dubs...

edited to add: I saw the commercial for tonight's episode and they restore this girl's completely trashed Mustang (Looks like a 70's era 'Stang))

Trigger 04-08-04 01:27 PM

Oooh... I wanna see that... I have a '68 mustang. :)

:( I had a 66 coupe in high school/college but one night the oil pan exploded while I was driving down the interstate. It literally blew off in a ball of fire.

I was too poor to get it fixed so I had to sell it for parts. I miss that car :(

My favorite episode has been the Hi-Flight minivan or whatever it was called. Not only did it turn out pretty awesome, they reactions from all the "car guys" who saw it was hilarious.

What a weird car...

spainlinx0 04-08-04 03:08 PM

Maybe they are doing the actual stealing, but as we know from the Sopranos, it's Tony and his crew ordering the cars. :)

rabbit77 04-08-04 09:39 PM

Watching this show for the first time tonight. I'm not a car guy but this show is fun to watch. Especially since it's obvious the chosen car owners are passionate towards their hoopties. The reactions of the WCC crew is hilarious pre-pimping. And the surfer girl who owns the '67 Mustang is too cute.

Trelach24 04-08-04 10:20 PM

What actually percentage of the original car is left after they finish with them?

It seems to me they're closer to just giving these people new cars than to "fixing" them.

Some of these cars seem beyond the point of no return.

of course, I can barely figure out where the oil goes so I know nothing about cars.

Da Thrilla 04-09-04 01:17 AM

Just watched the Mustang ep...damn that looked good. Too bad they couldn't keep the flame-throwers

Deftones 04-09-04 01:41 AM

I saw this show once. It was called Monster Garage.

Trigger 04-09-04 01:49 AM

Gee... that was funny... not.

Just caught the mustang episode... I like some of what they did and that they made a genuine effort to keep it somewhat stock. i cringed when they put sheet metal over the floor, but I thought the hood scoop was classy enough. I was worried that it would be too over the top. The wheels didn't look good to me - part of what makes a classic stang is the fat tires.

The flame throwers were hella dangerous anyway since the gas tank sits right between them... gotta admit that it did look cool though.

That's like saying "The Shield" is just like "Cop Rock."

I think I'm going to pimp my own ride but instead of a PS2 I'm going to put in an Atari 2600.

already did it :), back in 98-2001 I had a 95 m3 with 9 tvs all running on different inputs, I had ps2, dreamcast, snes, nes, genesis, and a atari 2600(this was done mostly for car shows to get the judges attention)

I also custom built a fish tank in the trunk of my accord. ahhh those were the days

talking to me, I no longer have either car I sold the m3 and the accord and owned a Supra which owned my ass, I crashed it going about 95mph on a back road here in NY. I soon will be buying a 2000-2002 Jaguar S-Type, and will be doing alot of work to it(to showcase the work that my guys can do) including putting a 42" plasma in the trunk :), I am currently trying to get Pioneer to sponsor me again, they were one of my main sponsors on my accord, but I have not talked to anyone there since 2001(when I lost my license)

Derrich 04-12-04 07:46 AM

They should have a spinoff show that features Xzibit figuring out different ways of dumping the girls after the one night stand that must happen after each show.

These people go -crazy- when they see their cars. It's like they never saw shiny wheels before. The girl with the mustang was pratically orgasmic when she saw they had put a new radio in the car.

She had a friggin boom box sitting on the floor. I would have o-ed as well.

The one thing I like most about this show is that the kids seem to be good kids. They are always very gracious. It's a nice change from the normal freaks on most reality TV.

hey... you put a timestamp on my wisecrack - that's the freshest newest latest... why don't you go find another thread to "contribute" your pithy insight to. Thanks. :)

Trigger 04-13-04 01:30 AM

Hey... those who watch this show - there's a very similar show on TLC on Tuesdays I think called Over Hauled (again, I think) - but this show they don't let the owner of the car know what's going on - so they basically steal it or repo it and then when they get it back, it's all a bigger surprise. Now, another difference is that it isn't being done by West Coast Customs I don't think.

Anxious to see that one.

Slowpc 04-13-04 09:21 AM

Yea, i was watching Monster garage last night and caught the ad really quickly. I remembered seeing something about it earlier on and did look interesting. So I have it set up to ReplayTV it tonight and will watch it after work. Does seen to have more "Meat" then Pimp my ride does.

Hopefully they do something to the engine so that their ride makes it home.

iggystar 04-13-04 11:02 AM

I hate that they actually show the finished product on the commercials, ruins the surprise you know. Yeah, I've often wondered if they at least give the rides a tune-up or something.

Cusm 04-13-04 11:32 AM

I do not think that Pimp does anything to the engine, which is a waste. But the TLC show I think does.

Trigger 04-13-04 12:53 PM

Yeah - that's one thing that bothers me about the Pimp show - some of these cars are barely held together with duct tape... you think the engine is gonna be in perfect shape? If the dashboard is cracked and falling apart, how are the hoses doing under the hood? I noticed when they did that mustang, they were fitting the wheels and you could see all the crud and nasty rust in the wheel well. They also fed some wire to the battery and while they had the hood up you could see they hadn't done anything to the engine. I think the Mustang was in good shape engine-wise, but for a car like that it would've been nice to at the very least detail the engine so when she pulls up somewhere in her gorgeous car she can pull up the hood too.

El Scorcho 04-13-04 01:59 PM

That chick with the Mustang was irritating as all hell. I'd still bang her, but listening to her talk was irritating.

What I'd love to see is a followup to these cars 1 year from now. Guaranteed that those cars are going to look like shit somewhere down the road again.

And I guarantee you the majority of these cars will be stolen within that year.

The one thing that popped into my head when I saw a preview for this show was how do they keep the owners from following up on their stolen or repo'd car? I mean I sure as hell would be visiting the police if it happened to me.

Maybe they let the police and insurance company know ahead of time, so they don't bother putting it on the radar.

Trigger 04-14-04 12:16 AM

Just watched Over Haulin'... it kinda sucked. It was dull and alot of the time they just stood around doing nothing or sleeping. Besides, when they were done the truck didn't look all that "cool" to me. I'd rather have my ride Pimped even though they don't do anything to the engine. Plus, the kid they took the truck from wasn't all that excited. Not to mention, they seem to be tricking out cars that are worth a bit of cash to begin with as opposed to Pimp where they take cars worth a few hundred bucks. I think this show should be a half hour long and pimp should be an hour.

They are doing 10 - 30 thousand dollars worth of modifications on these cars. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they probably go ahead and install a $200 security system or Lojack as a part of the package. Not that its a guarantee that it wont still get stolen. But a halfway decent alarm with a kill switch is enough to thwart the vast majority of theft attempts.

The OverHauled was done in Robby Gordons shop, and it had Chip Foose on the build. I don't know if all the shows use the same "cast" or not.

The flame paint job was pretty nice, although I don't know how long the kid will be able to kepp the accessories in the rack, assuming there was no locking mechanism.

Big Boy Laroux 04-14-04 09:27 AM

that's the problem with pretty much EVERY show on TLC. they are an hour long, but only need to be 30 minutes ("while you were out" is definitely one that comes to mind). I don't want to see some guy called "Shrek" sleep for half the show.

I do like that they do engine work on this show, though.

also, the kid was not excited AT ALL. or maybe he was just in shock.

hopefully there was a lock on that tailgate...

Trigger 04-14-04 12:02 PM

The accessory rack was crappy... all that time spent on it and it looked like crap and took up the entire truck bed. It would've been better to just get those pre-made tool lockers and line the truck bed so it won't scratch.

chucks888 04-14-04 04:03 PM

Overhaulin' is just 'pimp my ride' for hillbillies.

Yeah, the kid's reaction is probably a producer's worst nightmare for these types of shows. His reaction amounted to basically.....'cool' 'oh man, this is...cool'. Kinda felt bad for the crew because they actually worked their ass off on the build.

I'm curious about fish tanks in cars though. Is that not just an insanely bad idea? I don't imagine fish will handle the water boiling up when you park it out in the sun over the summer very well.

well you do not keep them in there all the time, I would only bring certain fish to certain car shows, but now this has caught on (Wyclef has ashark tank in his Hummer)

so it is back to the drawing board, I have had tvs almost anywhere you could imagine them, in the side mirrors, rearview mirror, trunk, engine bay, headliner, visors, steering wheel, glovebox, headrests

but now when I get my jaguar I am going to try and custom build a another set of rims with tvs in the center caps

Big Boy Laroux 04-15-04 08:08 AM

yeah, chucks, one of the best things about "pimp my ride" is the reaction of the kids who get their cars pimped.

Ah I see, that makes more sense. TVs in the side mirrors? Crazzay!

Wait, TVs in the center caps? Now you gotta be jokin'

Derrich 04-15-04 03:18 PM

I wont be happy until I can get XBox Live hooked up in the wiper fluid reservoir of my Crown Vic.
