I figured Scrubs would get the snub. They should swap Scrubs with Will and Grace.

Looks like they've got plenty of room in the schedule for more versions of Law and Order and Dateline.

I'm only counting 4-6 open slots for new shows. That's not many.

I think they should move Scrubs to where Friends is and put Joey where Frasier used to be.

I don't know why Scrubs fans would want a more high profile slot for their show. If Survivor beat it significantly, it would likely be a cancellation victim. It would seem to me that a lower expectation timeslot where there is not a lot of competition is the ideal place for it if you are a fan.

This is basically what Law & Order was like for years. It was in a benign timeslot. Never did great (never cracked the top-20 until the Angie Harmon years) but it flew under the radar and it is now a rating juggernaut.

Na. You've gotta keep the Joey show in the same spot as Friends. More people are likely to watch it in the same slot since it's 1/6th of Friends.

Did they ever offically cancel Miss Match?

I thought it was on hiatus until March, but now I've heard nothing.

I actually liked Miss Match and I think it would do well on Wednesdays before the West Wing.

I'm surprised "Joey" got the 8pm slot on Thursdays...I guess I just assumed they'd move The Apprentice back to 8pm and slide Will & Grace up to 9.

When Cheers got cancelled, did Frasier get its spot the first year?

Why do I think "Open Slot" sounds more entertaining than most of what I see on the schedule? The Apprentice is currently the only thing I watch on NBC - although I will check out "Joey" to see if it's any good.

I assume that the contract btwn Mark Burnett and NBC guarantees that NBC will not put Apprentice on opposite against Survivor.

So where does this mythical 4th Law & Order show fit? They're not going to put it on Saturday, are they? That seems to be the only night with a free hour in the 9-11 range...

There is a good chance it will be held back until midseason.

I just hope they don't cancel Happy Family and I'm good. I love that show. DVDs by this September woulden't hurt either.

Why so many Dateline? Even if it does well in the rating, won't too much exposure eventually burn itself out?

Agreed - they wouldn't dare make his show's face-off against one another.

And I have no problem w/ Scrubs staying where it is for the exact reasons you mentioned. It would be nice if they would keep it in one spot and not put it on hiatus during sweeps.

Haven't you heard the joke about NBC creating new days just to be able to show more Dateline.

No way. That could never happen.

*cough*millionaire*cough*

The serious answer is that the networks are going to push these "news shows" and "reality TV" as hard as possible, because they get great ratings and are significantly cheaper than dramatic/comedic series. Of course, you're right, if people get sick of this, NBC will be left with nothing but Law & Order all night long. (Kinda like TNT, actually.)

Well I was just thinking, put an ensemble comedy where an ensemble comedy was before and then put a character-centric comedy where one was before.

Well, we've already had the "Luke, I am your father" moment. Looks like they'll follow that up with a "Leia, your my sister" now. Could work... if this gets Melissa George off the show somehow, I'll be all for it.
Looks like someone posted on the wrong thread there.

Not as long as that sexy Stone Phillips is at the helm. He'll never steer the ship that is "Dateline" wrong.
