What they should have done is cut a deal with the car dealer for a brand new car to give away. Have one person work the VIP check in area, have one person go outside and bring customers in, and have one stay and work the raffle, hand out the cards. They would have probably tripled their gamblers, and easily paid for the car with the increased play.

BDB 03-26-04 08:23 AM

Even the boys with the 1000 dollar giveaway were not really trumping it up at all.

Had the girls managed somehow to get a car then Trump would have railed on the guys for only offering the chance at a 1000 dollars.

Groucho 03-26-04 08:25 AM

What was the deal with the little kid? How does a 10-year-old end up as Executive Producer of a big casino show?

BDB 03-26-04 08:28 AM

I am sure its a gimmick for trump

The people were already in the casino.

The raffles, etc, were not an incentive to gamble--but an incentive to have your card (which tracks your spending) scanned by the team.

"Let us scan your card, and you get to spin our wheel"

Great editing last night:

(paraphrasing)
"What we don't have is shock value"
*ROAR*
Doors creep open. Young children cower in fear. Thus enters The Tiger.

And the whole "dueling banjos" theme between the two teams on the microphone.

Mark Burnett knows how to produce a TV show.

das Monkey 03-26-04 09:13 AM

Perhaps it was the editing (or my selective memory), but it seemed like Amy handled herself in the boardroom significantly better than everyone else. All the women (except for Christie who just sat there) got very emotional, and all the men stammered and stumbled through their defenses. Trump seemed to grill Amy harder than most of the others (probably because he's considering hiring her), and she still handled it pretty damn well.

Patman 03-26-04 09:22 AM

Was the car rental give-away Amy's idea or not? (I was flipping between the NCAA games and the Apprentice). Because I was wondering if Amy was really clueless as to whose bad idea that was, and if she was trying to spread the blame for the idea by "not remembering...".

What was good to see was Amy writing down her bullet points (and paragraphs) to defend her actions in the competition, and to arm herself with pointing out deficiencies of her teammates. That's better preparation than to just sit there and take it like Kristie and later Jessie.

I bet Katrina looks like crap in the morning without her makeup, though.

7 weeks in a row that a woman went back down to the street. Hmm...

raven56706 03-26-04 09:23 AM

kATRINA.....who cares.....doesnt change the look of those legs....

and Amy...... her thighs were hot....

Stu 17 03-26-04 09:27 AM

I think it was Amy that came up with the idea for the car rental. Katrina mentioned giving away a car I believe, Amy turned that into a car rental when she thought a car was too much.

I think.

I'm gonna have to rewatch it next Wednesday.

Just a question, how many of you guys are gonna buy this show when it comes out on DVD? I think unlike other reality shows, this one would work as a DVD set.

das Monkey 03-26-04 09:28 AM

Yeah, the guys at work all think she's smokin' hot, but she looks way too fake to me. Don't get me wrong -- I'd hit it -- but I'd leave the lights off in the morning.

Red Dog 03-26-04 09:30 AM

More on that stupid challenge. That is exactly the kind of crap that makes A.C. a dump compared to Vegas. Frankly, if I was that guy running the Taj, I would have shut the hokey thing down from the very start.

Patman 03-26-04 09:31 AM

The Apprentice Hussies: We'll leave the lights off for you!

tofu 03-26-04 10:30 AM

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the scene yet where Trump's "hair" was blowing in the wind and he said it was real. He almost reminded me of the guy from Flock of Seagulls. :D

The car idea was just lame. (I think it was Amy's but I'm surprised that she didn't take responsbility for it) Katrina never helped herself with her attitude. She just had to go. Bye Bye Leggy.

Kal-El 03-26-04 10:35 AM

I too, think it was Amy who came up with the car rental. Hence the very convenient memory lapse in the boardroom. She hid it well though.

I saw Katrina's exit interview with Matt Lauer this morning before I went to work and man...those legs were on display again. Talk about someone who knows to flaunt what she's got. When she was asked if she'd do it again, she said she would ten fold. And that just from the amount of exposure her legs and hair got, that she'd been approached by people for endorsements and stuff.

And for those who're capable, pics from last night please? Some of my co workers are curious what the big deal is about the legs and I wanted to show 'em.

raven56706 03-26-04 11:08 AM

oh man..... Can someone post a pic of those legs.... I mean gosh damn....

lol...

yeah but i am pulling for Bill or troy to win it all....

Dont think kwame will win because he just sucks.

Dont think will win because he will only deceive himself.\

And amy might win with those thighs........ nick better hit that just for the hell of it

The reason Protege (Amy's team) lost wasn't because the promotion sucked (it was), or that they didn't generate enough buzz, or that their mike skills were bad. It was simply because the other team went after the high rollers and Protege did not. That was the key difference in the outcome of this contest.

That's what I have been alluding to and why this challenge was just plain stupid. Troy's team didn't win because they got high rollers to gamble in the casino. They were already going to do that. They won because they simply got those high rollers to swipe their cards and enter a stupid giveaway. I cannot fathom how this tests one's business acumen. :hscratch:

Fanboy 03-26-04 12:48 PM

Nick might bug the hell outta me, but his line: "Come on folks, enter to win a... *Microphone off* I can't compete with a tiger." Had me rotfl

Yes, I think the "measurement" factor of whose challenge was better was flawed..................but other than that I liked the challange.

Bill thought of some great ideas with the VIP desk, and the other team just tried to badly copy it.
The wheel worked much better than the "rent a car" and you felt you were playing a game.
That gets people back into the casino, having fun, and more likely to spend money.

Yes, with the tigers, and the drawing, it takes people AWAY from the slots in the short-term (thus why it was a little flawed on the measurement factor) and it also takes longer to register people (because they have to spin a wheel INSTEAD OF JUST putting their name on the card and swiping).
So it was more time consuming, thus the "rent a car" promo had more entries.

But the wheel, and tiger, etc was more "flash" that people in a casino want to see. It works on the mind and keeps them coming back because of a joyfull experience.
This is what the one guy in the boardroom was referring to vaguely when critiquing Amy and Katrina and Nick's ideas.

Derrich 03-26-04 01:08 PM

Everyone's talking about Amy and Katrina's legs but you're overlooking the goreous gams of the ice queen herself, Carolyn. Sitting in the boardroom, we got camera angle that was meant to do one thing and one thing only, display the bare thighs of the manager of the Trump International Golf Course.

Like I said before though, everything, including the tiger, seemed very hokey to me. Not something I consider flashy. Heck, Donald Trump walking through the casino got a heck of a lot more attention than that stupid tiger. A tiger in a cage - what adult in the country has never been to the zoo?

Compare it to the Mirage in Veags. They had those tigers behind glass when you walk in. They don't have people selling raffle tickets in front of where the tiger habitat is.

I do not see how these things get people to gamble more. Maybe if they were outside the casino on the boardwalk, it would make sense but they were already in the casino.

Groucho 03-26-04 01:14 PM

You guys missed the point...the idea behind both promotions was to keep people in the Casino. If there are goings-on, and an upcoming drawing they are more likely to stay rather than wandering down the street.

Correct, these promotions did absolutely nothing to increase gambling, they actually distracted people from gambling.

With the "$300" voucher you didn't need to be present to win. That team signed up 1,300 or so people and there were about 50 there for the drawing. One benefit I guess is that they have their name and address so they can market to them in the future.

Those were some long lines. I am skeptical that the amount of gambling generated by those who would not have otherwise gambled there is greater than the amount of gambling lost by making gamblers wait in such a line.

Clearly, Bill's team won because Bill signed up high rollers who just happened to spin the wheel. Bill's actions in getting those high rollers to spin that wheel did not actually bring more revenue to the casino.

The VIPs didn't even have to spin the wheel, they just needed to swipe their card. I doubt many VIPs would have waited online to spin the wheel.

Did they even spin the wheel for them? If not, that is even more ridiculous then.

Groucho 03-26-04 01:32 PM

I got the impression that the VIP's spun the wheel, but they had a seperate, shorter, priority line. But it wasn't explicitly shown, I'm drawing conclusions from when Bill was talking with the VIP's and the Showgirl.

neiname 03-26-04 01:35 PM

I betcha there were plenty of people pissed off when they hit $1,000 and Troy told them it was a chance to win $1,000.

I was cracking up when the Donald was standing outside and the wind was blowing his hair all over the place and he mentioned that this would at least prove to people that he does have hair (and that he doesn't have combover/hairpiece action going on). The Donald just has some really weird hair. I still think he could do better than his current 'doo, though.

That is where I was confused. I thought the idea was for them to "register" new gamblers. But wouldn't you think the VIPs would already be registered gamblers at the casino?

QuikSilver 03-26-04 02:27 PM

All I can say is that the only reason why Kwame's team won was beacuse of Bill. Kwame still has yet to show why he deserves to still be on the show. He has done nothing and Bill knows it.

briank 03-26-04 02:39 PM

Also,

I agree with the decision to fire Katrina, however I think Amy is overrated from what we've seen.

Especially last night's episode. She didn't put a lot into that mission. She didn't organize anything well, come up with a plan, slept, and just looked very depressed at the car dealership.
Then denies coming up with the idea after Donald calls it lousy.

I know she must be pretty good as everyone there likes her and kept picking her to switch teams.
But I agree with Katrina, that it wasn't all due to Amy, that some of it was luck and she received too much credit on prior missions.

I do think she deserves the top girl prize. I just don't know if she deserves to win.
So far I think Bill has been a better "thinker/leader". I also like Troy for different reasons, just a good attitude.

I think Nick has some good qualities (they all do) but haven't really seen a "leader" in him.
