Scott Bakula on Enterprise
I'm a fan of Scott Bakula and Star Trek. Watching him on enterprise has been a little bit disappointing. I found his character to be quite grumpy and righteous. Those Nicolas Cage outbursts don't help either. Either the character has to be looked at or Bakula doesn't suit (attempted) bad ass roles.
Anyone else think the same?

I don't think it's the timeframe so much as how they're handling the timeframe. There was a lot of expectation built up over the years about how that time was, and Enterprise is not showing it.

I actually have no issue with the timeframe either. I've mentioned this before, but when this was first described to me, it sounded great.
They were talking about a group of humans, who probably weren't quite ready for it yet, heading out into space. Using questionable tech, rickety ships pushed to their limits, making major mistakes (without meaning to) when encountering strange races.
It sounded fantastic. "Das Boot" in space. Plenty of story possibilities about how human arrogance/ignorance can be destructive. Or how the human spirit can soar. (You know, the kind of moral issues that Star Trek used to be about.)
Plus, all of this would be the main story against the backdrop of the Federation's founding. It was such a great idea, how could you screw it up?
I think we have the answer to that. Lame, retread writing. Technology that seems basically identical to that in TNG/DS9 time. "Temporal cold war." Focus on boobies and explosions to distract from the above.
I think the dry as toast cast is the least of this show's problems.

Well said.
I think Archer was a decent enough character the first season. He had a fervor for what he did, and good leadership.
In the wake of bad ratings they've "turned up" his character and made him appear irrational and self-righteous. Many times I watch him and think, boy I'd hate to work for a commander like that.
I'm sure that's not what they're trying to do to him, but they can't seem to find a good balance.

It sounds like Fok missed the “Howdy! We’re from Earth! You wanna be my friend?” period of the 1st and 2nd seasons.
And, what das and bboisvert said.

From: Bartertown due to it having a better economy than where I really live.
If they get back to the "Earth's first true long range exploration vessel/birth of the federation" thing the archer character would be more fitting. Getting back on that track would solve most of Enterprises problems and could even get the ratings up enough to justify a full 7 year run

I was totally distracted by the boobies.

I absolutely hate Star Trek. But I am a big fan of Bakula so I gave Enterprise a shot. Quit watching after about 5 or 6 episodes. It was decent, just not anything spectacular. Thought it had a decent premise.
