Is it necessary to show people throwing up all the time on tv now?

I was thinking about this the other day and then I saw it again last night. Maybe I just haven't noticed lately but it seems they are always showing people throw up all the time. I mean the stuff and all. Is it really necessary? Are we that stupid not to figure out what they're doing?

Well what eventually got me to ask a question was the movie SWAT.

I just remember asking the misses about a week ago why they have to do this then here it is again tonight. I don't have specific examples as I just don't watch a lot of tv or movies. So if I'm a sparatic television watcher and I notice it either they are showing it more or I'm just seeing all the ones with people throwing up.

It doesn't gross me out or anything I'm just curious.

I don't know what you are talking about. You mention throwing up on TV, yet give an example of a movie.

Look maybe it's something I just noticed. I don't take notes of every tv show or movie I watch. I don't watch a lot. I just remember thinking after seeing it in "something" that HMMM I seem to see people throwing up an awful lot lately. I guess it's just me.

The best example I can think of is Jackass and that other show with Steve-O and Chris where they go exploring and the show with Bam (all on MTV).. Great shows.. but everytime they do a stunt where they eat something nasty, they show the vomiting... I have to change the channel at that point

I watched SWAT over the weekend, and I don't remember any vomiting.

As for "Jackass" and the like, it's pretty obvious you're going to see that kind of content on those shows...it shouldn't come as a surprise.

When Colin Farrel is running on the beach, pushing himself too hard. He pukes. I remember it.

Oh yeah. That was pretty minor...it wasn't very graphic or even close to something like "Meaning of Life."

Still, I've seen no evidence that people are throwing up "on TV all the time."

Ah come on das

Of all people you should know

Don't ask me why I'm just noticing this but I still can't figure out why they show the "spew" when people do it.

Who are "they"? Who are the "people"? I still can't think of a TV show (non animated) showing someone throw up.

How many years has it been since "South Park" abandoned that gag?

The one that comes to mind was from a year or so ago, on the Sopranos. I'm not a regular watcher, so I don't remember names, but one lady was brought in by the FBI, who wanted her to give them information on Tony... or something like that. Anyways, you saw pretty much everything at that point.

I can think of more movies where its common, not as much on TV though.

Adriana, Christopher's fiance. (and apparently, even though it looks realistic, it wasn't real.

kantonburg-
I can back you up on this. It seems like I see realistic vommit or hear realistic sounds much more than I used to. It's gotten to the point that if I know they're about to show someone throwing up, I look away, just incase.

The King of Queens is a perfect example, I looked away, although apparently they didn't show anything when Doug vomitted twice after playing racquetball.
Dawson's Creek comes to mind with the realistic sounds. I didn't watch the show in primetime, so I don't know when the episode aired. But, it was Dawson's birthday and he got drunk with a blonde friend and they were both throwing up in his bathroom.

I know there are many more, better examples. I just didn't expect to need to remember them! But, you're not crazy. I've had the exact same thought. Realism is not needed here, unless it's a serious piece of drama.

How about Fear Factor. They try to make them puke every week.

I also believe that more and more acts of puking have been showing up on TV lately.

The FCC is fine with vomiting, as well as shooting, fighting, punching, dismembering and general throttling...just as long as the people doing it are clothed and don't swear.

I don't know. The language is getting progressively worse. Next thing you know the Dice Man will be on CBS primetime in his next stand up.

They have been shwoing more vomiting lately. With shows were people are eating pig ass and fish eyes it's given.

Mad TV even made a joke about it when at the end of one of their bits all the characters just graphically vomited in a chain reaction type deal. They ran a funny scrawl mentioning The Sopranos vomit scene and how if they can do it so can we(mad tv)

I saw someone threw up in Fear Factor a while ago.

And yesterday as I was watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 5 DVD, I saw Buffy threw up after she discover her mom died.

They do it on Crank Yankers all the time. True, it's with puppets but if they go that low it could mean the downfall of humanity as we know it.
