It looks to be a multideck shoe, so the cardcounting advantage doesn't appear apparent at all.
They're replaying the episode immediately after the new airing now.
This doesn't have nearly the same amount of draw that WPT has, simply because it's 95% person against dealer and not person versus person.

I don't really see the appeal of WATCHING Blackjack, or the concept of professional "blackjack" players. I mean maybe it's just me, but it's probably a bunch of guys playing perfect Blackjack strategy and one of them hitting the odds more than the other to win? With six decks, any card counting advantage is down to almost 0%...

Even so, the "strategy" of playing your opponents is pretty simple and would apply to any limited term betting game. Tournament blackjack is pretty silly in the first place, but to televise it? Over the course of 30 hands, with a multideck shoe, the amount of "skill" is so vastly outweighed by luck of the cards.
What was James doing betting $1000 on the final hand? Unless he had foreknowledge that Connie would surrender like she did, there was almost no way to win with that bet.
Oh, and Melena was a terrible host. I must admit, though ... for as boring as this was, watching Michael try to "read" the dealer and consistently fail was mildly amusing.

"Well, Melena, after the first couple of hands when the cards didn't go my way I did think I might be."
"THANK YOU FOR PLAYING."

It wasn't this morning, when I told my wife who won, that I found out the winner was 'blind'. (I missed the first 10 hands and didn;t pay attention to the guy sitting behind her.)
