Alias "Blowback" 3/7/04

Spoiler:
Lauren's betrayal deepens as she and Sark sabotage Syd and Vaughn's mission to locate a bomb that could give the Covenant way too much power in the terrorist realm. Meanwhile, Sloane lures Barnett (Patricia Wettig) into an intimate exchange about the one sin that still haunts him. Weiss: Greg Grunberg. Lauren: Melissa George. Sark: David Anders.
why does tv guide have to spoil something big in their episode discription. also ABC spoiled what we think will be the big "twist" at the end of the episode in the "coming next week" prieview that
Spoiler:
Sark mentions that he is Syd's father to the psychiatrist

Thanks for the spoilers, I'll be too busy watching Sopranos to catch it. I have a cable box from comcast that prevents me from taping on one channel while watching another one.

Melissa George's screwed-up mouth really bothers me. I don't know why, I just want to hit it a few times to see if I can fix it.

The POV change really freaked me out for a moment there. When I was watching Enterprise last week the episode restarted and I missed the end because of it so I screamed at the TV this time around. It took a second or two to realize this time it was intentional. The relationship between Sark and Lauren is a real hoot. Liked the episode overall but I have one tiny complaint: COULD THE PRODUCT PLACEMENT BE ANY MORE OBVIOUS! What happened to being subtle? I think neon flashing lights would have been less glaring.

Yeah, shoot her in the leg to make sure they don't run again. Vaughn's a dummy.

Wasn't all that crazy about the story told from the two points of view.

Now I guess we'll have to wait and see if DNA bears out Sloane's suspicions that he's Sydney's father.

Marshall on caffeine was funny.

I was wondering what was going on too for a second their.

Syd could have stopped, aimed perfectly, and still have plenty of time to shoot Lauren in the back while they were running through the boat.

Marshall was hilarious

I am not sure if I liked their little tribute to Boomtown w/ the differing P.O.V.'s.

Sark and Lauren are great together, if Syd or Vaughn don't get around to killing her, maybe he will.

I still can't believe Vaughn didn't at least shoot that bitch in the knee or something. Too many stupid mistakes are made by him. Put Syd back w/ Weiss.

Speaking of Weiss - I hope he suspects something about Lauren and starts his own investigation or one w/Jack. Anyhow, he needs more to do.

Sloane is one crafty psycho. And he better not be Syd's father, I hope he has just deluded himself into thinking so. Jack and Syd are too good of a father/daughter combo to not be the real deal. Wait a minute, maybe Jack can put a bullet in Lauren's head.

I did enjoy Marshall asking Syd if her geek character was a tribute to him.

Ever since Lauren was revealed as being a mole, I've loved her character. She has a lot more depth now and her partnership with Sark is great. I hope that when the CIA finds out about her she isn't killed off or put in prison. It'd be better if she runs off with Sark so they can have another season together. Two villians are better than one, especially if they're sleeping together.

I kept expecting Vaughn to recognize Lauren's eyes through the mask. At least get him thinking but it doesn't look like he noticed. Every other spy or cop show seems to have the hero be able to remember someones eyes. Being married to Lauren, he should have noticed. Even if he didn't think of her on the boat, he should have had the image of the eyes running through his mind and when he saw Lauren, va-la!

Yeah, I had a problem with that too. He should have recognized her right away. Also thought that he should have been able to hear the cell phone chat.

Car chase at the beginning was good.

I also think they're going a bit overboard with the music. The techno stuff is all they need.

Sloane's secret didn't surprise me much.

Hope Jack's story picks up soon.

Overall, good episode.

I like how Sark told Vaughn to drop the gun if he loves Sydney. He dropped the gun in front of Lauren (in a mask), thus, proving to her he's still in love with Sydney. Did Lauren have sex with Sark before or after this revelation?

I like how when Marshall tried to show Jack pictures of his baby, Jack gave Marshall a disgusted look. That was funny.

I love Alias to death, but this one of the worst episodes I've seen in its three year history. Laurence Andries should never be given the task of writing another ep. That was probably the lamest use of flashback structure in recent times. It just bogged the down the overall pace.

Anyone else think Sloane is just screwing with Barnett? I still don't buy the fact that Sloane is Syd's father.

And the use of Blur's "Song 2" in the context of car chase sequence was a total ripoff of the context in which it was used in Guy Ritchie's "The Star" from BMW's The Hire film series.

Most of you guys already brought up the obvious instances of product placement, so I'll leave that alone.

Vaughn: "I'm glad I wore the vest."

How cliche is that line?!

That was a bit Groundhog Day-ish for a second there.

Agree about the eyes. Too bad Vaughn's a typical guy (he'd have probably known it was her if he'd seen her breasts...)

I took Weiss' look to mean that he's suspicious of her, even if she didn't.

This was a dumb episode.

I had this entire paragraph typed up about the ridiculousness of the "Drop the gun if you love Sydney" segment of this show, but as I was typing, I realized something. Sark's playing on Lauren's weakness. It wouldn't have mattered if it was Dixon or Jack in Syd's place, i'm sure he would've dropped the gun. She's just too dumb to realize it.

Either that or Syd's hand-me-down wig was on too tight..

And it could've been worse...it could've been "It's Motor Trends "Car Of the Year" for 2004 -- the F-150!!!"

I was sadly saddened by the "Get in the F-150" bit. Of course, later in the show, a billboard said the show was sponsored by the new Ford F-150. At least they put it somewhere it might be, as opposed to a chase in say, Japan.

You guys know this is the future of advertising. Too many people must be tivoing past the ads, so they need to find a new way to get the ads in there. I guess it's going to be that and/or banners in the future.

I just have this overwhelming urge to go out and buy a F150 today.

Seems to me this "bang you on the head" product-placement will have a negative effect.

I know Vaughn wasn't really trying, but I had to laugh when Sark (in the Ford Mustang) pushed the lowly Honda out of the way while Vaughn (in the F150) didn't even dent the Ford (Focus?) he hit.

Sark and Lauren got busy before that little revelation (so she'd have a lot of nerve being upset). I agree with Rogue588 - Sark's just playing her weaknesses hence the phone call to rub it in.

Now I have to go out and get 2004's Motor Trend Truck of the Year - The F-150!

I concur.

And I just figured out who Lauren is...she's Butthead's mom. Couldn't you just picture her saying, "Shut up, Beavis!".
