What irked me most was the fact that dishNetwork decided to put a black bar over the already scrolling information. That seemed a bit of overkill with a slight abuse of their power.

Well... Saw it a couple times during the Late Late Show. Clearly put on by the local affiliate, as it said that Dish would be losing the local station plus comedy and I forget what else. Viacom sucks, and I will probably be avoiding CBS as much as possible while this is happening. Can't wait to see the scroll during Survivor or CSI: LV. -rolleyes-

That being said, DISH sucks too.

This could get real ugly. Now I'm very glad I didn't go with Dish. Loss of CBS would be inexcusable. I hope, for the sake of Dish customers, they stop pissing soon and start providing what they should.

All in all, I'm not surprised Dish dropped CBS though. Charlie Ergen is a weasel, and he loves using his customers as pawns in his negotiations.

Yep. Now DISH is telling customers to call Viacom. I still get my independant Atlanta CBS station and the only cable channels I'll miss are Comedy Central and the babysitter (Noggin).

I'd be thrilled if this happened with ESPN or any of those silly home shopping channels.

Yep, it's a done deal. As of this morning (3 a.m. eastern I believe), 16 local CBS stations and a number of national Viacom-owned stations were pulled.

Now I get to try to explain to my 3-year old why he can no longer watch Dora the Explorer, Oswald, Max & Ruby, and some of the other entertaining, educational shows he absolutely loves. Obviously, he won't understand, and nor should he care, about this dispute.

It'll be interesting to see how long this thing drags out, as both companies appear to be holding their ground with no signs of budging or compromise.

I already heard the first Comcast ad attempting to captalize on the dispute. They specifically mention the lost channels and will pay $400 + an Dish bonus if you switch.

So, does this mean the scroll is gone, since the affected DISH customers can't see them anymore with the channels gone! :banana:

<- Atlanta, GA. For the last year or so Comcast has had a Dish bounty of about $400 if you sign up with one of the higher level packages and commit to a year or so. I don't know about the Dish bonus mentioned today.

I get a mailing about once a month. I ignore them since I hate the program guide. Half the screen is filled by advertisements. You can see only a half-hour worth of information for seven channels.

There is plenty of greed to go around in this industry.

Wow. That sucks. My parents had ordered dish. It was two weeks from the day the called that it was supposed to be installed. Day of installation the guy called and said he was missing a part and couldn't do it. They got pissed, cancelled that and called Direct TV. It was installed the next day.

I really see no reason anyone would want Dish over Direct TV, other than to save some money as they offer some cheaper, less channel packages than Direct.

My parents got something like $10 off for 6 months. They went with the $39.99 total choice package (though it was I think $36.99 for them as local channels aren't available in their area) so they're paying $26.99/month for six months plus taxes and what not. Deal requires a one year contract.

There's great DirecTV deals out there. You can get free install and free equipment just about anywhere, and I've seen 3-room systems installed for free.

However, if you go with DirecTV, I strongly recommend you get a DirecTV/TiVo combo box. I have three of them, and I hate to think what life would be like without them. You can order everything here. Or, if you want a TiVo with a couple more standard receivers, you can go here The price, IIRC for new subs on the TiVo box is about $40. Far cry from the $399 I paid, and worth every penny.

International channels are in greater availibility on Dish Network. Thats the reason a lot of people get Dish instead.

I've been very happy with the service from Dish Network over the past 3.5 years, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here. Still, I'm very unhappy about this, and still hoping that something can be resolved soon.

The lack of MLBEI and NFLST is also pushing me heavily towards DirecTV.

What I'm looking for is this. We have two houses that we need to set up:

House 1:
4 rooms, 3 with a Tivo box

House 2:
2 rooms, 1 with HDTV, Tivo not necessary

I just called DirecTV and they offered their standard offer, despite me mentioning all this and coming over from Dish Network.

I don't know what you Dish customers are bitching about. Echostar is compensating you more than fairly for your lost channels, in fact on your next bill you should see a credit of one dollar. That's right folks, one whole genuine US American dollar!

Can someone who subscribes to Dish do a breakdown of how much per channel you pay monthly, and see where the hell they came up with a dollar?

I strongly urge anyone affected by this situation not to hastily switch to Comcast. Subscribing with them is akin to signing an open invitation to be assraped. Those precious few Comcast subscribers who haven't yet felt their hammer of greed are probably next on the list. Their level of deceit and misinformation knows no bounds, even if you're a "valued" customer. Even if it were a last resort, I would consider not watching television over letting them near my home.

DirecTV has served me well over the years, and I'm a very satisfied customer. If you can't go that route, I strongly recommend finding another cable vendor if at all possible, else you'll wake up one morning with a sore bum and a note on the nightstand from your buddies at Comcast.
