Hello, Newman.
I caught a tail end of a commercial on the radio about some TV show doing a piece about Wayne Knight(Newman on 'Seinfeld') regarding his recent dramatic weight loss.
Anyone know what show it is on? I figure it's on something like 20/20, Primetime, or 60 minutes, but checking their websites bring up nothing. I wanna see what skinny Newman looks like! |
Several years ago, he lost a ton of weight, then gained it all back quickly and was fatter than ever. Unless he got The Surgery.
|
Ok I just saw the promo for it- it's on next week's 48 hours (IIRC)
Not that spectacular, he actually doesn't look that svelte. He's basically down to about Jason Alexander's size now, from the few promo shots they showed. Anna Nicole's weight loss, that was utterly amazing. |
Probably just got a stomach slaple like Al Roker.

I agree totally. I hate how these celebs flaunt themselves when all they really have to do is change their eating habits post operation since their stomachs are shrunk. It is definitely the easy way out.
BTW, was it ever revealed how much weight Anna Nicole lost? She said that she was going to reveal it on some show, but I have no idea what show or when. |
It was on her show, she says she lost around 80 pounds (IIRC)
I don't really care what she 'reveals', she looks like she lost a lot more than 80 (i.e. she was way fatter than she's trying to claim she was) |

Originally posted by bmarquardt I think the preview on 48 Hours said he did it the old fashion way...excercise and sensible diet. No Atkins or stomach surgeries. See what I did there? |
I never thought I'd say this in a Wayne Knight thread, but it's useless without pics!

Why in the hell does it matter how someone loses weight, and what business is it of yours anyway? It's their life - not yours. [/off topic] |

Because crowing about how proud you are about losing weight through surgery is like celebrating winning a 100meter dash against toddlers.

Originally posted by Alyoshka Honestly, I can't figure out why you guys care? I didn't have to put contacts in my eyes because I got laser surgery! Damn I'm a lazy son of bitch! You couldn't have done anything on your own to strengthen your eyes, but a fat person can lose weight. Period. Having your stomach stapled, or a gastric bypass, or gastric ring surgery is laziness. As for Knight, I'm very happy he's healthy, regardless of the means. |
Originally posted by Charlie Goose Oh yeah, that's exactly the same thing. |
Now his head looks huge.

Originally posted by Alyoshka Obviously you miss the point. They are both ridiculous to make any sort of a deal about. Like I said...there are human rights violations going on all over the world. Find something else to get pissed off about. Seriously this jealousy about how people alter their body is pathetic. |
Let's face it, dieting is HARD work. It's not just eating right for a day or a week, but over a period of months, consistently. It takes will power, determination and character to work your butt off to diet right, exercise and sticking with it. Having a Doctor take out most of your stomach so you eat less is VERY dangerous, and the fools way out. Jealous??? LOL, more like pity because of a lack of will and determination to work for their goals the traditional way.

LOL, more like pity because of a lack of will and determination to work for their goals the traditional way. Society demands that everyone looks like a supermodel, and now that people have found a way to do this through surgery, people like you still at them for daring to be thin just because they didn't do it "your way". Oh no. They didn't follow your edict, therefore they are fools. Christ, there's just no pleasing some people. |
A life threatening tumor is one thing, but stapling your stomach because you dont have the motivation to diet and exercise is another! Hell, if anything I am against this "we all have to look like supermodels". Losing weight is not just about looking good, but it's about establishing healthier habits and living a longer life. People who are overweight have a much higher risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and a plethora of other health problems. Not to say you are invulnerable if you are leaner, but having those better eating habits and exercising regularly will help lessen your chances of problems later on. You are totally missing my point.
So you think it's okay to perform a potentially life threatening procedure when there may be a simpler, less problematic way of doing it? In other words you want the quick fix even if there are major and unnecessary risks involved? |

It takes will power, determination and character to work your butt off to diet right, exercise and sticking with it. I think that just as it comes naturally to me there are some people who no matter what they do can't shed their obesity. It's foolish of you to think otherwise, especially, as it seems, you have no personal knowledge of dietics. |
No matter what they do can't shed their obesity! LOL Now that's funny. You're true intelligence, or lack there of, is showing now. Losing weight is a matter of burning more calories than you consume, simple as that! The point I'm trying to make is that alot of people don't put forth the time and effort to work at it weight lose, and go for the quick fix with the stomach staple.
And here you are using your own personal example of how you "eat what you want", and exercise and don't have a weight problem. Well, not everybody is the same, and everybody has different metabolic rates. Who said anything about getting angry? If you're in good shape and eat like crap good for you! That is not my point, my point is that people who DO want to lose weight and be healthy should change their lifestyle, not just find the latest surgery or magic pill to change it. Because if you change lifestyle and make better decisions, that will yield better long term results. You're fatalistic attitude about "no matter what they do they can't shed their obesity" is a belief that enables people to think they can't have control over their body. |

So what? Anyone can still lose weight. The reason I made that comment is because many people with your diet would have a greater chance of being obese.

That picture of newman is creepy. It's as if he's hiding all his fat up his butt and clenching it in before it spills out.
|
What bothers me the most is that people are willing to undergo a potentially harmful procedure to lose weight when there are in fact, more viable and safer solutions. Being lazy is a small part of the problem, but itsn't what bothers me the most. If society continues to adopt this mentality of the "quick fix", it can definately lead to greater problems down the road. But, that's just my opinion. I'm not losing sleep over it, but I question if people who want to lose weight actually give sensible eating and exercise a TRY before going under the knife. Eating right and exercise have been intregral in helping me stop bad habits, so naturally I feel people should exhaust those options throughoutly as they are tried and true for healthy living.
