Minus the talent.
I don't think that came off quite the way I meant.

Yes, William Hung doesn't have even close to the same degree of talent but for most people, all that David Byrne is and was is summed up in the "Once in a Lifetime" video.

And thats not really too far from Will's "She Bangs" performance.

No, "Burning down the House" is like Hungster's "She Bangs."

How can anyone that isn't tone deaf think Latoya can't sing? Untrained ears are what bring us things like rappers that try to sing and Evanescence.

Again I turn to my good friend Webster. If you follow definition #1 (to produce musical tones by means of the voice ), then yes she can sing. But then so can William Hung and the "Like a Virgin" guy.

But if you follow definition 3 (to relate or celebrate something in verse), then that remains to be seen. While the definition relates more to poetry, I think it also applies to the delivery of a song.

The problem with most of the contestants is that they are too busy focusing on the first definition and not enough on the other. It is equally important to "relate" something through their voices than to just make notes.

In a way, the problem is that LaToya is "tone" deaf. While she can hit the notes, she has yet to adopt an appropraite or distinct "style or manner of expression." Right now she is Salierri. She has far from proven herself even near the class of Mozart.

Yeah, the musicality of Latoya's rendition of "I've Got Nothing" left me cold in the first half of the song.

Latoya sang "All by Myself" and not Whitney's "I've Got Nothing."

My daughter went over and babysat the manager's kids while Latoya and the band she sings with were filmed by American Idol's film crew performing a few songs in the garage.

I was able to take a few pictures and record part of the session on video. Man she can really sing!

Latoya was very gracious (calm, just like on the show) to my daughter while she signed a piece of paper telling my daughter to "Keep on trying and your dreams will come true".

Someone more awesome is going to have to make the show to get my family to vote for them. Latoya has our vote every night.
