Question about language on network tv.

24 season 3 and The Shield recently began here in Denmark and I've noticed at least one instance of the f-word in 24 and even more in The Shield.

I couldn't help but wonder since I thought that was only allowed on HBO, Showtime and the like, but these 2 are on Fox right?

Anyways, I was just curious. Any help's appreciated

The Shield is on FX which is on cable and can use whatever language they want. Most non-premium channels on cable can use foul language, but usually don't.

As to 24, it's broadcast and subject to broadcast standards. I don't recall ever hearing the f-word on 24. Are you sure you heard right?

I see. That's probably what confused me. FX & Fox not being the same....

About 24, no I'm not 100% sure, but it sure sounded like a 'F**k you'. It was in eps. 3 when Kyle's buddy wouldn't help him out. Now that I think about it I guess it could have been a 'Screw you'...?

Thanks for your reply.

sometimes they say the F word and only mute out the end of it so you hear enough to fill it in so to speak.
and while I've heard just about everything else on the shield, I don't think the F bomb has been on. I don't think even cable networks in the US have crossed that line yet
a**h*** on the other hand, was on NYPD Blue more than 7 years ago

FCC said the networks can use "shit" a few years ago, and the f-word was approved for non-sexual uses quite recently.

I take it you missed Comedy Central's airing of South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut completely uncensored a couple of months back.

I'm an avid Shield fan and the one word they've never used is f//k. They've "almost" said it a few times.

The Shield is on Cable and doesn't adhere by the same rules as Network television. (It can say S--t, or F--- if it wants), the recently deceased show Lucky used to use the former many many times per episode. It's really up to the network (Comedy Central has shown South Park:BLU several times, 100% uncut)

24 rarely swears, and I don't recall hearing "**** you" in episode 3. It's possible, but if it were there, it was cut from US broadcast.

From 10pm - 6am you can do as you please as long as it's not "obscene" (note: porn is not "obscene" in most places). From 6am - 10pm, there's many "subjective" rules on what can be used, so really you're never 100% safe using f*** or s*** on network TV before 10.

Granted.. this is in the US I have no clue about Denmark
