Mythbusters

Anyone watch this show? It comes on the Discovery channel. It's like Snopes TV. (Actually, Snopes did try their own TV show, even made a pilot. It sucked, looked too much like Ripley's Believe It or Not.)

The two main guys are both special effects/stunt experts. Really smart guys. They take various urban legends and try to recreate them, either proving or disproving them. They do a really good job. And the best part, if they CAN'T prove it, they up the anty until they get the same end result. (For example, 5 ounces of gunpowder didn't blow up a log cannon, but 5 POUNDS sure did)

I love this show
this log cannon one is a rerun, but really good
the other day they did the "bullet causes explosive decompression on a plane"
only way they got any dangerous amount of decompression was to put a bomb in the plane and the bomb probably did more damage than the decompression

the drill may have done it overnight in the myth, as they probably would have had a team of guys rotating the drill and a lot more weight pressing down on it

You gotta love how positively "giddy" they get when they start turning any of the variables up to eleven.

I love it as well. I caught a rerun one day, and have watched all the shows thus far. Some of the stuff they do is great. I remember seeing the moustache guy on BattleBots.

I recently discovered this show just surfing around. It only took me five minutes to create a season pass. Entertaining, and educational.

The funniest one was the myth about the guy holding a barrel of bricks being yanked up in the air, then falling, with the barrel hitting him midway both times.

Good show. On my record list.

The barrel of bricks one was one of my favorites too.

barrels are tough

Sometimes I think they bust the myth too early. For example the one where they tried to find out if you could pick up radio waves on dental work. Though I think they busted Lucy's story just fine, I wasn't satisfied with the actual myth being busted.

How old is this show? I recently started watching it, and think it's great.

FYI, they have a message board on the official site at discovery.com

The hosts, Jaime and Adam, as well as one of the show's producers, are very active on the board, which really surprised me. They make a point to read all the posts and reply to as many as possible. They often respond to critisism and explain the show, more. They go into depth with alot of the segments and give lots of details that were left out of the show, for one reason or another.

"Jaime wants big boom."

Love this show.

The most inetersting for me was the one mikehunt mentioned, where they tried to blow a dummy out of a plane.

God bless Tivo. It picked this up as a suggestion when the show first started, otherwise I might have missed it.

I have as well.

I think one of my favorite ones was where they tested out the rocket car.

Either that or the chicken gun one, especially when they realize that the windshields of the Piper weren't rated for bird strikes.

SO good. This show gets my vote as most likely to become the next big cult hit. I just hope there's enough urban legends to keep the ball rolling.

This is a great show. I too like the chicken gun one, and also the one with the bridge.. Something was entertaining about seeing those little army men dancing like a conga line trying to take it down..

The one about the penny was also sorta cool, when they were shooting it against the wall..

...and each other!

The grossest one thus far has to be the one with the dead pigs in the Corvette. Man, I would have tossed my cookies if I would have had to do that.

I agree about the grossout factor with the dead pigs.

But, man, to do that to a 'vette...that is just so WRONG!

Considering there are thousands, I think they have many myths to bust.

Yeah, that's another one I thought was bad because they couldn't really recreate the actual circumstances and prove it the myth was true or not.
