Thank God they got rid of Futurama and Andy Richter to make room for this.
FOX Schedules Two More Reality Series
By Brian Ford Sullivan
CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- A plastic surgery-themed beauty contest and a dating show in which gay men try to fool a straight woman will be the subjects of two new reality series set to debut on FOX in March.
The latter, entitled "Playing It Straight," tracks a single woman named Jackie who looks for love among a pool of single men at the Sizzling Saddles dude ranch in Elko, Nevada with the twist being some of them are actually gay. If the last man standing is indeed gay, he wins the show's $1 million prize while if a straight male finishes first, he splits the pot with Jackie. Unlike Bravo's similarly-themed "Boy Meets Boy" however, early reports indicate the "bachelorette" is aware of the twist when the show begins (read the story). "Playing," which comes from Lion Television, bows on Friday, March 12 at 8:00/7:00c. Jeremy Mills and Ciara Byrne are the executive producers.
Meanwhile, plastic surgery will be the centerpiece of FOX's beauty pageant "The Swan." The series, which kicks off Monday, March 29 at 9:00/8:00c, follows 18 female contestants as they go from "ugly duckling" to "swan" over the course of the show's nine-week run. FOX's press release indicates the series "goes beyond where other makeover shows end, offering women the incredible opportunity to undergo complete life transformations, and then follows their journey afterwards as they accomplish their goals and bring their dreams to fruition. THE SWAN's team of Life Specialists – plastic surgeons, hair stylists, makeup artists, style consultants, speech therapists, and other life coaches – will work on each woman from the outside in so that she can accomplish what she always wanted to achieve but couldn't due to limitations, perceived or otherwise."
Each week will focus on two of the contestants as they go through their physical and emotional transformations, one of whom will be selected by a panel of judges to go on to "Ultimate Swan Pageant," which takes place during the show's two-hour finale on May 24. To add to the drama however, the contestants won't be able to see their new and improved faces until after said finale. "American Idol" producer FremantleMedia is behind "The Swan."
