I liked Lisa's brain talk and the idea that Thomas Pynchon would appear on the Simpsons, but the whole episode was tired. Homer's paramedic job was the lousiest b-plotline ever, and Marge's book/criticism of Homer's husbandry is very old hat.

"Did he cut one on the test drive?"
"Yes, adn then he turned up the radio to try and cover it up"

I liked Lisa's brain talk too. Reminded me of Herman's head.

I know I'm out of it, but who's Thomas Pynchon? I figured that thing was supposed to be funny, but I didn't recognize him. What did he write?

Slow Learner. In all honesty, I had no idea who he was either, and only found that out from Google. I still liked the joke as just a general shot a reclusive artists (of any form, music, authors, actors, Streisand).

I had this weird "voice over" happening during the episode. A voice would come in and start describing whats happening on screen. It was strange, as I haven't seen anybody on any board mention it. This was on the HD channel of Fox. The regular channel didn't have this.

Can anybody help me out?

FOX screwed up and sent out the "descriptive audio" as the default audio channel for the digital broadcast. It wasn't on the analog transmission. There is a discussion of this over at the avsforum in the HDTV programming area.

"The book is 286 pages!"
"But it's double spaced."
"Woohoo! I'm halfway done!"

"Why would I want to give her a backrub unless I wanted... Ohhhh... to make her feel good."

Funny episode.

I thought the descriptive audio was a play on the book on tape plotline!

I once got the descriptive audio when I accidentally left the SAP turned on. It ruined a lot of jokes, because the narrator describes the sight gags just before they happen.

Thomas Pynchon is a reclusive novelist. He never does interviews or publicity, and has never allowed his picture to be published.

"I liked the book as much as I like cameras!"

Funny episode. I liked how Marge's book awakened Lisa's tiny libido.

How about the Olsen twins reading the book?
"Take it Ashley!"

Great episode, though i think Homer the salesman was a better plot than the paramadic....nothing funny in the ambulance. Homer replacing the dancing clown had me lmao. Another terrific episode, i cant ever see this show getting old.

"I swore off reading since To Kill a Mockingbird told me absolutely nothing about killing mockingbirds. I learned to not judge people based on race, but who needs that?"

I liked Bart's "I'm gonna go tease the Ph.D.s" line in reference to the cashiers at the chain bookstore.
