Question for Buffy afficionados

Is there a website guide to the series a la The Lurker's Guide for Babylon 5?? Something that won't give lots of spoilers?

I just finished watching "Lie to Me" from Season 2 - after that episode and the "Halloween" episode, I'm starting to get into this. Giles
Spoiler:
a/k/a "Ripper" - WTF?
appears to be a little more complex than I thought. Also,
Spoiler:
why did everyone except Cordelia change into whatever constume they wre wearing/ What is it about her?

I'll give this a shot (since I don't know a website).

1. In Season 1, there was an episode where Giles said that he was kind of a bad@$$ in his younger days...doing magicks for power and glory, etc. (Ripper was his nickname). So when he ate the candy, he "regressed" into "Ripper."

2. Cordelia didn't change on the Halloween episode because she didn't buy her costume from Ethan whathisname.

Hope this helps and that you're enjoying the series!!

You could try checking out the guides at buffyguide.com. They were usually written as the episode airs (at least the first few seasons, then someone else took over and it started to get backlogged). Here's the spoiler free episode list (unless you consider episode titles a spoiler):

http://www.buffyguide.com/episodesplain.shtml

The individual episode guides are pretty good, with a short and long synposis, good quotes, bad quotes, trivia, goofs, interesting notes (usually related to continuity with other eps) and a couple of short reviews.

PS. Lusty nun you might want to spoiler hat first part. The candy episode isn't until season 3. Bando was just refering to the fact at Ethan Rayne called Giles "Ripper" during the halloween episode.

"Ripper" was Giles' nickname when he was a teenager.

This theme will be expanded on later in "The Dark Age" and "Band Candy" (in season three.)

Giles was an animal in his day.

Beware... EVERYONE on Buffy the Vampire Slayer is more complex than they first appear. Just wait -- season two will be kicking into high gear shortly, and you'll find out why so many people love this show so dearly.

As for sites, http://www.buffyguide.com isn't bad, but sometime around season five they sort of quit updating the site. Also beware of clicking on character bios, as those tend to give away spoilers bigtime. Like when Willow travels back in time one thousand years to fight the Shadows.

Thanks, all, buffyguide.com is exactly what I was looking for. I just finished watching "The Dark Age", in which some of Giles' past comes to light. Up to this point I was a little disappointed in the series and couldn't understand why people were so enamored of it, but I can see that things are going to start to change.

I have seasons 2 and 3 at home, and I'm sure I'll have a good idea about this show after completing them.

I would hope you'll have all those Buffy sets done by next Tuesday.

Not too tought to do. I got season five for Christmas and barely managed to stretch my viewing of the entire season through to last night!

This show so rocks. So now I wait until June for Season 6?!

Once I watched Season 1 in one overnight marathon

I have tried a couple different approaches to watching the show... (since the end) For a few months, I would watch one a week. That doest work too well for me. It is much more fun to every now and then, watch a minimum of six in one day.

Yesterday for example, I watched the last 2 eps of Season 1, and all the way up through "What's my Line part 1" in Season 2. Gonna watch a couple more today.

Unfortunately I can't view a bunch of episodes at once - I have three young children who demand attention and insist that they be fed EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN' DAY. WTF is up wth that?

Come next Tuesday B5 will take precedence.

And once I'm done with Buffy Season 3 I have to get both Buffy S4 and Angel S1, right? Don't I have to watch them together?

Shit. This is going to be expensive.

Buffy S4 and Angel S1 can be watch separately, but there are a few cross-over episodes that work best viewed together. Check this thread:

Josh-da-man and otmetrud both give good paths to follow IMO.

Keep a box of crackers or something handy. When the kids start screaming, just dump some on the floor. Or better yet, go to a pet store, get a continuous feeder and fill it with M&M's or animal crackers or something. If they're young enough, you don't even have to do that. Our one year old is quite happy eating cat food, but it totally freaks the wife out, so we try to keep it out of his reach.

You got that right. Of course we're still only 2/3 done with B5: Season 3, but we've seen the entire show multiple times over since the beginning, while Buffy and Angel is quite new to us. If we were new to both shows, I'm sure Buffy would be making room for B5.

And once I'm done with Buffy Season 3 I have to get both Buffy S4 and Angel S1, right? Don't I have to watch them together?
You don't have to watch them together, but it's more satisfying. I think the best thing is to start with Buffy and just alternate. That's how they were aired and it works out fine. I also found it nice to alternate between the shows since they have a slightly different feel to them.

Shit. This is going to be expensive.
Yep. I tried to talk my wife into picking up S1 of Angel when we were early in S3 of Buffy. But she didn't want to do it. So we ended up get S4 & S1 together. It costs the same of course, but it hurt more seeing it all go at once.

$44 for 22, 45 minute episodes? - shit, that's cheap!

That's equivalent to about 8 movies - which, even at a bargain would cost you WELL over $100.

It used to be even cheaper to get them overseas until the Australian dollar went up 75 cents American.I still will get season 7 there-should it be released there first.
