hey..by the 15th I was just answering the persons question about what I considered dark..I was NOT still asking opinions about the show at that point which was pretty obvious..and why does all things Sci-Fi have to be connected to Star Trek all the time?
and you keep using the word "we" even though YOU are the only person who had any issues with my questions ..probably because of my anti- Star Trek thing which is very very sad..get a life ..if you have nothing good to contribute then dont post at all.

Anybody who hates Trek can suck my nuts.
No, WAIT! I'd rather not have them touch my junk. I might get cooties.
Hey, das I didn't know you wore rubber ears?

Joss Whedon got the idea from Outlaw Star
When I first heard about Firefly I said to myself "this looks familiar". A sci-fi western about a group of misfits wandering around space in a ship with a girl they find in a suitcase? I'm thinking somewhere along the line Joss Whedon saw the anime series Outlaw Star that aired a year eariler on Cartoon Network and thought this would make a good series.

Oh yeah ... rubber ears, blue science officer jumpsuit, black boots, and all. Someone made fun of my outfit at the mall yesterday while I was looking for rare toys at KB, so I gave him the Vulcan Death Grip. Yeah, I know there's no such thing, but I figured this joker wouldn't know that, so I'd be OK. Clearly, it was a tactical error, because ... well, let's just say I'm going to need more rubber ears. I can't tell you how embarrassed I was that when he broke my nose, my blood was red instead of green. I inject green food coloring into my bloodstream daily, but apparently the effort was ... are you ready ... in vein.
Oh well ... TR3K R00LZ!!!

On another note, thanks for the compliment Das and would everyone calm down about the Trek Vs Firefly issues? If you don't like a particular show, there's no reason to attack someone else's taste (liking Trek doesn't make someone Satan anymore than preferring Buffy or whatever other fantasy show makes someone a goofus).

I was very critical of Firefly when it aired, probably due to the way Fox presented it. The light never went on for me until they showed “Serenity.”
I ordered the set without a second thought. It’s different, to be sure. Having watched everything, I’ve seen the light, especially after Adam Baldwin’s rendition of “Hero of Canton.”
But I’m not saluting das. I don’t care what uniform he’s wearing. (OK. After a few beers, I might consider something a la Red Dwarf or 3rd Rock.)

It's rather unfair to judge Joss Whedon on the movies made from his scripts, since they really aren't his movies. As a screenwriter on a film, his status is just above the Best Boy's, and his creative control is nil. Contrast that with his TV shows, where he's Executive Producer and has near maximum creative control. The Firefly movie, if he were to direct, would really be the first Joss Whedon film.

Chances are, it’ll blow, unless the suits let him make a movie that’ll appeal to a very narrow audience. That doesn’t sound like Hollywood to me.
I don’t think Firefly had the exposure to develop a broad fan base, unlike Farscape. Nor did it seem to be something aimed at the usual SF crowd.
At the risk of having a tricorder shoved up my ass (
), could it be one of those movies that eventually becomes a “SciFi Original”?

Well, take comfort in the knowledge that I’m frequently wrong.

I bought this a couple of days ago and have almost finished the first 2 disks. I didn't get to catch most of the series when it aired originally. I must say this show is much better than I remembered. What has been the most pleasent suprise has to be the humor of the show. They don't have a lot of jokes but when they say something funny it is damn funny.
My favorite one liner is this:
Jane: "Do you know what the chain of command is? It's the chain out back that I get to beat you with until you learn that I'm in command!" LOL

I think I may pick this up after Christmas. I loved the series, but had actually forgotten it was coming out on DVD
Are the episodes on the discs in chronological order, or in the order than FOX aired them?
