HEADS UP: Ed's on TONITE -- "Just A Formality" 12.10.2003

As much of a pet peeve starting weekly TV threads before the show airs is to me, I haven't seen that much promotion for the ep.

The first spoiler is the preview for tonite's ep. The second is a casting spoiler.
Spoiler:
Just A Formality

Ed (Tom Cavanagh) decides to ask Carol's (Julie Bowen) visiting father (guest star Dan Lauria, "The Wonder Years") a vitally important question, but he isn't encouraged by the reaction of his possible future father-in-law. Newly slimmed-down student Mark (Michael Genadry) is horrified to see himself mocked in a doctored Internet video and asks Ed to help him recover damages in civil court. Elsewhere, Ed recruits Eli (Daryl Mitchell) and Phil (Michael Ian Black) for a poker game to endear himself to Carol's dad and Mike (Josh Randall) is intent on building his own wood-fired pizza oven. JanaMaie Hupp and Lesley Boone also star.

Spoiler:

LOOK OUT, CAROL: Caroline in the City alum Lea Thompson has been cast in a three-episode story arc on Ed, set to air in January. Thompson will play Ed's philandering ex-wife. Is there any other kind?

That sounds like it could be very funny

Thanks for the post. I didn't realize it was new tonight. Kudos to the NBC marketing department again

Ed 12/10 "Just a Formality"

Just a heads-up to everyone that there is a new Ed on tonight. It's been a couple weeks and I thought it was moved to Friday's?

Spoiler:

ED POPS CAROL'S DAD WITH A CRUCIAL QUESTION; DAN LAURIA ('THE WONDER YEARS') GUEST-STARS -- Ed (Tom Cavanagh) decides to ask Carol's (Julie Bowen) visiting father (guest star Dan Lauria, "The Wonder Years") a vitally important question, but he isn't encouraged by the reaction of his possible future father-in-law. I thought it was one of the best episodes of the season. It had a good story, got the comedy in with Mike and his pizza oven, had some lawyer stuff from the internet dance routine, and handled the Carol dealing with her dad situation very well. At first I couldn't figure why the guy wouldn't LOVE Ed, especially after Dennis, but then I liked him telling Ed that he was a good egg and the issue was with Carol. And they resolved it very well. I got teary.

I thought it was so-so, but at least they paid homage to "Star Wars Kid".

Next week's preview was very disturbing though...

I thought it was an average ep.

Mike running through the wall was the highlight for me.

I agree with Patman, next week's preview is disturbing. Though with it being Christmas I think they'll use mistletoe as the reason for the kiss

If you just THINK it's going to happen, it's not a spoiler, so don't use the tags. Deleted tags. - Static

I thought this was a pretty good episode. The hectic pace at Carol's job makes me wonder how long it'll be lasting. I remember someone in a past thread talking about these startup magazines being a dime a dozen in NYC.

Perhaps I should change my s/n to Father Dowling. I knew it was Jimmy. I was just wondering where Warren was..

Stubbs was too funny at the poker game..

Oh, and Nancy in a tank top + Nancy blindfolded [TWICE]

I liked the Mark story. And it seems like Ed was right; Mark hasn't really been funny since the surgery. It's like the writers were making notes to themselves in the script.

I thought the pizza oven was dumb (who's wife makes the one condition that you have to build it yourself??!!), but it was worth it just to see Mike launch himself through the wall Not sure why they didn't just make that the $10 bet, since they didn't have one.

I still can't say I like Carol's hardass dad, but I love that they gave the part to Dan Laria. Definitely agree with the poker game and Nancy's tank top

Mike running threw the wall and Phil's poker face had me laughing my ass off - you knew they were going to put the duct tape back on him.

Mark's story was okay - nice homage to Star Wars kid, but I also figured out pretty quickly that Jimmy was the culprit, too.

I love Carol and Nancy.

I'm not looking forward to next week's show - was that Madchen Amick in the preview?

Me too - that was just too funny. It was an OK episode. They explained that Warren conned his way into a state education conference so I'm guessing he'll be back before the end of the season.

Ok, funny, yes, but this episode was just horrible in my opinion.

Mark - story blantantly stolen from someone else's experience - they should've been like L&O and said "Ripped from the Headlines!" in the promos

Carol's Father - waste of a good actor. You're going to tell me that Carol's dad has lived in Stuckeyville this whole time and she never went to visit him over Thanksgiving, or was at the going away party or anything?

The Pizza Oven - umm..ok. Funniest part of that was Mike climbing the ladder and the dog looking at him.

I'm sorry, but this episode was awful. If it keeps going like this, I'll be glad it's moving to Friday night.

Carol gets in a car wreck and is in a coma. Doesn't look good for her. So Ed shacks up with the first hot girl he meets.

She said that since they were spending too much $$$ on the restoration. [And she probably thought he might not take her up on it if he had to build it...]

xDareDevilx, you might wanna spoiler that preview for next week. Sounds like NBC has been watching FOX's promos.

the news of ed on dvd is not good. right now, the contract for the show states that the dvd's can't be released until at least a year after the show has gone off the air. they really need to redo that and do something like 24 does to pick up new viewers.
