Star Trek : TNG Season 7 ... is it that bad?

In the past couple months I've collected Seasons 3, 4, 5 & 6 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I've enjoyed them all quite a bit, with Season 3 being my favorite. I don't plan on buying the first two seasons, but I'm wondering if Season 7 is as bad as most reviewers say it is. Granted, I remember watching a few episodes almost 10 years ago, so I don't remember a whole lot about it. I really liked Season 6, especially Chain of Command I & II, Tapestry, and Rascals amoung others. Is Season 7 as good as Season 6, or is it pretty bad? I have refrained from watching Descent I, because then I will probably buy Season 7 just to Descent II. But, if the other episodes are good, I may buy the last Season. What do you all think of the last season of Star Trek TNG?

I own the same 4 sets as you do, and I have no urge to buy the rest.

That said, I do own the last episode "All Good Things..." on LaserDisc. But one episode isn't worth owning a whole season for, IMHO.

The final two episodes of the series are probably the best ones. I'm a big TNG fan, seen every episode like 10 times thanks to Spike. It's not the best season, but the last few episodes are great.

Yeah, it kinda sucks. There are a couple of solid episodes in there but certainly no great episodes and plenty of stinkers, including some of the most loathed episodes ever like 'Masks' and 'Eye of the Beholder' and 'Sub Rosa' and 'Journey's End' and yeah, it kinda sucks. Still, 'All Good Things ...' is one of the best series finales ever and is just damn good television (odd, considering one of the people who slipped in on the writing credits). Not owning that finale is unacceptable.

I loved Season 7 with the exception of any episode that had Wesley Crusher as more than an afterthought.

I couldn't not own Season 7, but I also have to have every season of a series if I have any.

I'd say it's not that bad. There are a few ones that are just mind numbingly stupid though. Most of the good writers were on DS9 by now...

If I were you I'd buy season 2 (maybe even 1) before season 7, but it did do a pretty good job of wraping up the series IMHO.

BTW: In "Force of Nature"
Spoiler:
(The whole warp 5 speed limit bit a the end of the show)
was that ever cleared up in DS9? I don't remember them ever explaing what happened to it in TNG and I know it wasn't in Voyager.

I quess I'll spoiler it since the question was
Spoiler:
DS9 they were at war for enough of the time to not worry about it. the reason Voyager's nacels moved was to eliminate the problem. the newer classes of ships also had nacels designed to prevent damage. there were also some episodes where an admiral would give picard specific permission to break the warp 5 limit due to the urgency of the mission

Thanks for the input guys. I was *this close* to buying Season 7 today at Wal-Mart for $107.99 but passed. Instead I picked up Alien Quadrilogy for $63.89 at Sam's Club. But, I'm sure eventually I will pick up Season 7.

I would get Season 7 mainly for "Descent II", and "All Good Things". I saw "Interface" on Spike TV the other day and wasn't impressed at all. But, after doing some seacrches on DVD basen there were a few decent episodes to grace Season 7. It would also give some closure to the series.

If you really wanna see if it's worth it go to startrek.com and you can read about each episode.

Gambit isn't too bad, Pegasus is kinda interesting, and preemptive strike shows a different side of the Maquis.

Now that being said you do have some really bad episodes.

Of course I have collected all the TNG and DS9 sets.

Just watch them on Spike. Like a lot of TNG, they're not bad, but you don't need to rewatch them.

If you find it for a good price in a used CD/DVD shop ($70 or less), I'd suggest going that route. I've done that in the past, and sold a few box sets I didn't want on eBay (usually making a few bucks in the process, even!).

I didn't think S7 was that bad. Clearly not as good as some previous seasons but it wasn't S1 bad. There were some good eps like "Parallels," "Journey's End" (if you dont' hate Wesley with ever fiber of your being),"Inheritace" and the already mentioned "All Good Things."

If you can get a decent price and if you're a completist like me go ahead and pick it up.

The 7th season was nominated for a "Best Drama" Emmy. It can't be all bad, right?

Season 7 had it's share of high points.

"Lower Decks" was my personal favorite. Should have been a set-up for Voyager.

"Parallels" was another.

"Pre-emptive Strike" was also good.

"All Good Things..." is worth having.

There was an above average level of suckage but a lot of episodes were just sort of "eh..." rather than being genuinely bad.

Yes. Yes it was.

The only thing bad I can say about Parallels is that it is used way to often by B&B as a plot device now. Like so many other things, they take a good idea and hammer it into the ground.

Lower Decks would have made a really good series period. I never really understood why all the senior officers would always go away on dangerous missions and why they weren't more background characters while the "lower decks" officers handled the grunt work. I am not sure what you mean by how this could have been spun off into Voyager, unless you mean Voyager should have focused more on "lower decks" officers, but at any rate, I think such a series would be a decent departure from the traditional Trek format.

I meant that at the surviving non-regular characters from that episode could have carried over to Voyager instead of someone boring and pointless like, well, like every character on Voyager.

Ummm. They were played by different actors. Alexander Enberg played the Vulcan in Lower Decks and Tim Russ played the Vulcan in Voyager.

Granted they played them the same way, but considering they have no emotions, they have very little room to give each character a dramatic flair.

Alexander Enberg also played Vorak on Voyager. wasn't an every episode character, more of a Cheif Obrien type recurring character
