The Simpsons 12/7

So far so good

madcougar 12-07-03 07:17 PM

Unfunny clown is right...

The bit with The Simpson's episode book was good.

MasterCXtreme 12-07-03 07:17 PM

Yup, the Homer Simpson show was pretty good.

MasterCXtreme 12-07-03 07:19 PM

The Lincoln & the FOX gag were hilarious!

RichC2 12-07-03 07:26 PM

Rehash. Not terribly funny. Kinda Lame... but at least it wasn't boring.

mverleg1 12-07-03 07:26 PM

Dare I say it? The Simpsons that we fell in love with has returned!

wildcatlh 12-07-03 07:35 PM

I thought it was hilarious.

I'm curious when you "fell in love" with the Simpsons, because the Simpsons I fell in love with has been dead for many years. I still enjoy the show on a certain level, but it is a very different show now.

Chew 12-07-03 09:03 PM

Yeah, I agree. It's a shadow of it's former self.

But, still liked the bit where Lisa pulls out the Simpsons episode guide.

Deftones 12-07-03 09:15 PM

The Lincoln daydreams were funny as were the bits with Mr. T. Not a great episode, but it had it's moments.

I would agree that it is a different show than back in season 3, but any show that has been on the air for as long as this show is going to change. But I think that it is funny again; It's just a different kind of funny. I would agree that the last 3 or 4 seasons have been crap, but it's finally starting to be an enjoyable show to watch again.

MrX 12-07-03 10:02 PM

Reiner Wolfcastle stopping when Krusty yelled he was anti-semitic was hilarious.

Fox headquarters:lol:

Homer's dreams with Lincoln were also good.

Crocker Jarmen 12-07-03 10:11 PM

I thought Homer taking Santa's Little Helper for one last night on the town was the funniest part of the episode.

The only odd thing though is that I don't remember Santa's Little Helper having puppies before, like Lisa reads in the guide. When did that happen?

That was from a classic episode where Mr Burns wants to turn all the cute little puppies into a fur coat and he sings "see my Vest"!

Tonights episode was great.

I believe that is the episode where Mr. Burns gets them and wants to make a coat out of their fur.

muggins 12-07-03 10:37 PM

When Homer and Lincoln were fighting with Oswald, I really was expecting to hear a gunshot go off.

Anybody else have this expectation? ;)

Right! Now I remember. After fifteen years it's getting tougher and tougher to keep track of the show. Or maybe my mind is going.

Otto 12-07-03 10:46 PM

Anyone else notice that one of Marge's lines got dubbed over? When she's watching TV and just after she says Homer is a "power mad TV star" or something to that effect. The line they dubbed in didn't make a lot of sense (which is why I forgot it already), but it clearly doesn't match the animation of Marge's mouth.

Could have been a replacement line. Or since it was a general shot of her sitting on the couch, it could have just been recycled footage.

Groucho 12-07-03 10:48 PM

They frequently re-use animation from old episodes for the shots where they will fit. That may be why the lip sync was off.

Tuan Jim 12-07-03 11:02 PM

One pretty funny part:

Bart asks Lisa how she knows so much about the Talmud, etc.

"I have an imaginary Jewish friend named *something* Coen."

Rabbi Krustofsky: "That's wonderful!"

Yeah, but I rewound and watched it a couple times before I deleted the show, and it was *really* off. I've seen them reuse shots and animations before, but this gave me the distinct impression of very late editing to replace the line. I'm thinking that they changed the line due to censors or the network or something, esp. when you couple it with the fact that the replacement line was just weird and kinda unusual. If you have the show recorded, check it out. It seems very, very odd.

Also, the couch and room wasn't one seen before. It wasn't the normal Simpson's house couch, it was in the back room of the studio, I assume. While they could have used an animation of Marge from anywhere, I grant you, it just didn't seem that way. This scene was drawn new and then the audio changed too late to redo the scene, I tells ya! :)

POWERBOMB 12-07-03 11:45 PM

Not bad, not great. It just wasn't as funny to me as in previous weeks.

Groucho 12-07-03 11:50 PM

It's very easy to redo the animation with a changed background.

That said, we will probably find out what happened from the commentary once this season is out on DVD. The debate will be settled in 2054!

resinrats 12-08-03 12:50 AM

Any show that has Mr. T in it is automatically great in my book. Nobody is cooler than T.

Ralph Wiggum 12-08-03 02:37 AM

It was alright, I guess. A couple of good bits, but (much like last week) it felt like it was cobbled together from older episodes.

Pointyskull 12-08-03 07:54 AM

Loved The Homer Show!

Other than that, I thought there was too much Jewish humor, and I just didn't get most of it (being non-Jewish).

Sure it's funny to see Mr. T spin on a minorrah, but a lot of the jokes kind of sailed past me...

rfduncan 12-08-03 10:07 AM

It had it's moment's:

Ralph Wiggum - "I eat Legos."

Groucho 12-08-03 10:12 AM

I missed Barney's line that got him booted from the show. What did he say?

pezboy 12-08-03 10:23 AM

"Disco Stu knows his place"

Mr T and the interchangeable hair pieces

For everybody that doesn't enjoy the Simpsons as much as, say, 10 years ago--and I'm defintely included...

What would YOU want to see more of? Is there something you are looking for that just isn't there like it used to be? Whether it was a formula regarding plots, a certain re-acurring character, etc.

Do you think the show could do anything to attempt to get it to the status it once held? Or do you think it's just an old show and therefore simply isn't as great as it once was?

I want a realistic, down-to-earth show... that's completely off-the-wall and swarming with magic robots. And also, you should win things by watching.

Chew 12-08-03 12:22 PM

I think the fact the series has run for close to 15 years is one of it's biggest problems right now: everything has been done to death already.

South Park may of invented the "Simpsons did it" saying, but it's applying more and more to Simpsons itself every episode.

Heh, yeah me too. I was hoping that Homer would look out at the window and yell something like, "Hey! What about that guy?"

Roto 12-08-03 02:48 PM

Lisa:"I tried the coathanger again. I don't understand why we only try things once"
Knock at the door, enter Santa's Little Helper's puppies :D

One of the scenes in the Season 3 DVDs has Homer looking for chocolate ice cream in the freezer. He goes through 3 or 4 cartons of Neapolitan ice cream and the chocolate is gone from every single one of them . He tells Marge, "We need more chocolate, vanilla, strawberry ice cream" In the commentary they said that bit was actually held over from another episode which had no room for it, so they put it in "the joke file." Then someone said, "I think we lost that joke file. I think The Family Guy stole it."
