No SNL with Al Sharpton in Iowa

The Des Moines Register ran an article today saying local affiliates wouldn't be airing tomorrow's episode of SNL:

http://desmoinesregister.com/news/st.../22936040.html

I was looking forward to that, he's crazy.

"Tim Gardner, director of creative services at WHO-TV in Des Moines, said station lawyers determined that airing the 90-minute show would trigger federal "equal time" provisions - meaning the stations would have to offer an equal amount of time to the other candidates."

"Their lawyers must not have finished law school because NBC went through all sorts of research to make sure that it was appropriate," Sharpton campaign manager Charles Halloran said of the Iowa TV stations."

the real question is, are the lawyers from the tv station correct about the equal time laws?

So why was Oprah allowed to have an hour show with Arnold and Maria? She didn't have to offer equal time to the other 300 or whatever candidates. Not even Gary Coleman!

Kind of a waste. Sharpton could have a daily six-hour block of television time on every station in the US of A, and he's not getting anywhere near the presidency. He wouldn't be voted president of a lifeboat even if he had an outboard motor strapped to his back. He's a loudmouth, shit-stirring, racist, extortionist scumbag.

Honk!

Seems to be. Just read this on IMDB:

NBC is planning to provide copies of an older episode of Saturday Night Live to affiliates in three states (California, New Hampshire, Oklahoma) and Washington D.C. because the Rev. Al Sharpton, who is scheduled to appear on Saturday's show, is due to be listed on the primary ballot as a presidential candidate in those states, CNN reported today (Friday). The cable news network observed that, under current FCC rules, Sharpton's appearance could trigger demands for equal time from other Democratic candidates running for the nation's top office in those states.

I wish NBC would provide older episodes of SNL to air every Saturday.

Obviously, no qualms from me about not being able to see the Sharpton episode. If I wasn't so lazy, him being on the show might even be something that I'd send a letter about.

Just tuned to SNL on WHDH in Boston. Looks like they also chose to pass on Sharpton - probably because of the market extends into southern New Hampshire. Too bad as I was really looking forward to seeing how he does.

Best of Steve Martin in St. Louis. I don't mind, but I wanted to see Al Sharpton out of morbid curiosity

Because the FCC ruled that she was exempt from the equal time laws since she was a "news" program. The Howard Stern show fought the FCC and won their fight to get classified as a "news" show so they could also have Ahnuld on before his election.

I think Al summed up this show tonight in that Latoya skit: "This show is a travesty."

Not a good show. Sharpton was a poor host, but that was to be expected. Someone like Sharpton should never be the host of SNL, because he is precisely the type of person they should be skewering, not kissing his ass.

NBC Exec
Giving equal time to the other candidates by putting them on other NBC shows was an okay idea. At least it wasn’t a GWB opening again.

Monologue
Sharpton showed what kind of a wooden host he was going to be.

Mom jeans commercial
Standard SNL commercial parody.

Michael Jackson on a roller-coaster
Amy Poehler makes for a creepy Jackson, but that’s the point. Wheeee!

Brian Fellow’s Safari Planet
Sharpton as the lifeless Ryan Fellow. I like the skit, but Shaprton brought it down.

3 wise men
Pulled over by the police on their way to see Jesus. Ooh, so cutting edge.

Side note: That kid from Good Burger might just be the single worst regular cast member in the entire history of SNL.

WU
Clever Paris Hilton interview.

1930’s movie
Lots of black sterotypes protested by Sharpton, natch. Take that, you white devils! Ha! Feets, do yo stuff! Best sketch of the night. I liked Sharpton’s expression when they handed him a spear and shield and wheeled out a missionary in a boiling cauldron.

Al Sharpton’s Casa de Sushi
I guess there’s not really much you can do with Sharpton. Sanz was funny as Harvey Fierstein.

Other candidates
Okay, but no punch line.

LaToya Jackson
Okay, two skits about MJ in one show. Not much here, although Maya Rudolph did do a good LaToya.

Cab driver
Wow. This was bad. Sanz as a slow-witted driver annoying passenger Sharpton.

Cryogenix commercial
Seen this one before. Clever.

Johnny Cash’s ghost
WTF? This was like something you write down in two minutes while taking a dump. Not fit to be aired.

Next week:
Spoiler:
Elijah Wood and musical guest Jet (who?)

WU was bar far the bext of the show.

"Is the Paris Hilton roomy?"

"For you maybe, but other people would find it quite comfortable."
