B5: the Sound of EEP...

Well there's clearly something new in the works for the B5 universe... too early to tell what, exactly...

From Sunday 11/30:

On the B5 front, there has been something of rather substantial proportion that's finally gone from talk to money, such that I'm now working frantically to meet some deadlines, but there's nothing I can say about this until after January 15th, probably closer to the end of that month.

The only thing I can say is that phase one of the new project is a go, hence the furious writing schedule at this end of things, which is why I've been silent until deciding to kick up some dust on the political discusion. I've been writing my little brains out.

I know the immediate result of this will be speculation, but if we could keep that to a low roar on the nets to avoid precluding anything, that would be a wonderfulness. But trust me: I wouldn't go on about something in this way if it wasn't a significant development. Just trust me on this one for a bit and
hold fire until further word.

(Longtime followers of the various news groups know that an eep means that something significant has happened, but that I can't talk about it...the eep is just a way of saying, on the QT, that something has, indeed, happened and it's real, not just speculation or maybe-gonna-happens. So on that basis, you may consider this an eep.)

And on the topic of fans for a moment...I'm happy to mention that we've included a thanks to Steve Grimm (Lurker's Guide) and our resident moderator Jay Denebeim on the Season 5 DVD. Just a way of saying thanks for years of help and support.

Oh, yeah...and next year you can expect two new DVD sets that a) include all of the TV movies in one package (with commentaries from me on "The Gathering" and "In the Beginning") and b) package all 13 of the Crusade episodes into one box.

Figures. I glanced through the other threads, but clearly not well enough.

das Monkey 12-01-03 12:47 PM

We're not doing a particularly good job of "keep[ing it] to a low roar," are we? :D

Considering all the things SF we have to look forward to DVD-wise:

<s>TNG
DS9
Firefly
B5 sets
Battlestar Galactica</s>
B5 complete movie collection
Crusade
Buck Rogers (looking forward to another wonderful digital transfer; beedee beedee beedee)
Voyager [ugh]
Enterprise [double ugh]

I think we’re going a good job keeping it down, so to speak.

Am I the only one around here who doesn’t know what an “eep” is?

Yeah, you're the only one. We all know what it is. I've known about the eep since I was 5. I'm so astounded by your ignorance that I'm going to wait for someone else to explain it to you.

:)

Chew 12-01-03 01:26 PM

Forget about "eep", I just want a scorecard to keep track of all of Bando's name changes.

Bandoman 12-01-03 01:41 PM

Idiot moderators going all eep on me.

Wizdar 12-01-03 01:53 PM

Yeah, as soon as I hit "submit" I realized I was butterballed...

Unfortunately, all the buttons are blocked here. Lotsa fun.

That's my excuse, yadda yadda. :)

Oddly enough, I've never encountered "EEP" before in B5 discussions. Is it an acronym?

And I do know about the Narn Bat Squad and Sinclair's Duck.

dstrauss 12-01-03 07:00 PM

Eep goes back to the early days of B5 fandom on GEnie, where we were all waiting for news that the show had been picked up after the pilot aired. JMS found out that they had been given the go, but he had to wait to announce it for PR reasons. So he posted a message on GEnie with just one word.

Eep.

Ever since then, eep has become B5 shorthand for "Yes, there's some big B5 news coming, I can't talk about it for legal reasons, but it's coming."

And as for what the news is -- well, I'm checking with my sources, but from what I hear, it's bigger than just a new TV movie.

Bandoball is next...

Err... did you read that entire message quoted from Joe???

I recall one message long ago when the series pickup was about be announced that consisted of about 20 eeps and nothing else...

Anyone else think it's cool he is giving thanks to person who created the lurker's guide. I also assume he means two more set besides the final two seasons.

Derrich 12-02-03 06:03 AM

Wasn't there a lot of talk about a B5 feature film during the last season of the show? It'd be great to see a big budget(or even medium budget) flick in the style of 'Call to Arms' or 'In the Beginning'.

bboisvert 12-02-03 09:18 AM

Yeah, there's some quotes from JMS that basically say that they were 'considering' a feature film, but (a) he didn't know how they could realistically do one on a budget and (b) he didn't want to go head-to-head with Episodes I-III.

I've been pretty impressed with most of the spinoff stuff (TV movies, Crusade, Rangers). It isn't as good as the original B5 run, but I'll take what I can get.

Hopefully, this news involves some sort of long term project that does NOT involve the Sci-Fi (sic) Channel in any way, shape, or form.

AMEN!

Now bring on the B5 movie and Crusade box sets.

A few days ago, this came through:

The trade paperback containing the first six issues of Supreme Power hit the stands this past week, for those who want to jump on.

Oh...and starting around the Ides of May, look to the wrong side of the river for word from Harry, Jack and Albert.

Not that I'm enjoying this, of course....

Clearly it means something will come from Warner in mid-May. Not sure what "wrong side of the river" means other than the obvious reference to the South Bank. Maybe it's a British production?

:hscratch: That's about as confusing as a Lady Morella prophecy.

Wizdar 03-22-04 07:16 AM

And I thought I was obtuse. :hscratch:

You are. JMS is just better at it than you.
