HD Digital Cable
Howdy,
I currently have a Series 1 TiVo and Digital Cable.
I have an HD compatible TV and my cable service provider (Comcast) offers some HD channels. Anyway -- my current cable box doesn't allow for HD.. I was wondering if anyone knows if I get the HD box will I still have the ability to output all of the analog channels to my TiVo or is it a second box entirely?
Anyone who knows how this works I would appreciate it. -- I guess I could call Comcast but I have a feeling they won't be very helpful.

My cable co [Time Warner North Carolina] offers an HD box [Scientific Atlanta] which broadcasts the HD/digital signal to the TV, and also broadcasts analog signal on the same channel at the same time, for use with a VCR, or, I assume, TiVo [I don't have tivo, I'm not sure how it works.] So you would record standard def, and watch HD live.
I emailed TWC, and they are supposedly 'finalizing' a deal for a SciAt HD/DVR, to come out 'next Spring.' I'm there : ) I currently have both the DVR and the HD box hooked to the same tv, so it's kind of annoying.

On my box (Scientific Atlanta) I have the component and composite going at the same time. Component for the HD and composite for standard programing (I have a 36 4:3 HiDeff set, so regular 4:3 channels output as windowboxed through the component out)
I guess it depends on your box, but I dont see why you couldnt use multiple outputs on your hidef cable box and just route them to the appropriate inputs (i.e.= composite or RF to Tivo & HD Component to different TV input)

Yes, it will, but the widescreen HD shows will be 4:3 letterboxed.
Comcast will be offering an HD PVR to all regions within the next year for $10/mo.

you are making it hard for me to cut the cord....
I don't like my cable bill or the cost of a HD box if I were to drop comcase, but I'm enjoying the 5+ HD channels now, if they offer a HD PVR for that money I'd be hard pressed to drop them. I'm also loving OnDemand.....
