But we don't really know how long Jor-El was hangin' around on Earth before he showed up in Smallville, so maybe his powers had time to build. Maybe he was sitting in the cave making the drawings before he wandered into town ...

This is exactly what I was wondering. In the episode where they discovered the cave drawings, wasn't Jor El the one in the Indian legends who made the cave drawings to begin with? If that's the case, he's been hanging around a while, and certainly prooving that Clark will indeed age slower than the rest of those around him (thus the vision of him standing in a grave yard of all his loved ones in the episode with the future teller).

I assumed Clark was surrounded by his dead loved ones in the vision because he can't be killed or succumb to disease.

That's the feeling you have the entire time with Smallville—that it's just about to be good, but it never is.
BS! It's a very good show. Better than that silly, ridiculous looking monster fighting crap you get on Buffy and Angel all the time. Some shows are better than others, which is the case with every show. But it's a very good show.

Some of you whine and moan because it doesn't follow some set comic book type guideline or official story. Get over it. It's a TV show with it's own take on the Clark Kent growing up.

He doesn't know it's destroyed.
Yes Clark does know Krypton has been destroyed, or at least he has a very good idea. In the show Rosetta with Christopher Reeves, Reeves character told him it was no longer there. Clark asked him if it had been destroyed, and he said he believed so.

That's pretty much exactly how I feel about Smallville. A few weeks ago I said something along the lines of "It's not a terrible show, I just wish it was a BETTER show", and I stand by it.
If the show is that bad, why do you continue to show up and watch it? Obviously it's good enough to get you to tune in. Just stop watching if you don't like it.

So do I gather that since there isn't a thread yet, that people are losing interest in this show?
Not judging from the ratings.

I didn't get that out of it. I kind of figured a Kryptonian showed up on earth every now and again (like a Predator/Predator 2 kinda vibe) as a rite of passage or something. So the person described in the cave drawings is not in fact Jor-El but one of the other Kryptonians who visited hundreds of years before him.

Boy, that sure was a bunch of cutting and pasting.

I doubt anyone who has posted in this thread thinks it's a bad show. Some people just wish it was a great show.

To each his own. Can you give us some reasons to say its a "very good show" (without bashing Buffy or Angel?). I think Smallville could be a very good show, but it is not. That's what is so frustrating.

I don't complain when they remain consistent, and the new take on things doesn't raise unnecessary problems which the writers of the show then don't bother to deal with. I already said what I thought about Jor-El being in Smallville, in 1961. I didn't like the cave story either. Do you think we'll get a better explanation for the caves than we did last season? I don't.

I continue to watch because it is capable of being a good show. Deep down, I'm not sure if I think it ever will be though, at this point. We're three seasons in, but it still feels like season one.

For the record, even if Smallville was the worst show in history, I'd still watch it because I'm a Superman guy.

From Meatpants' post (quoted from somewhere else, I believe):
My girlfriend watches it because she thinks the whole point of the show is this homoerotic thing that the writers are doing with Lex and Clark. They're constantly staring into each other's eyes and giving each other looks. She's watching basically for the hot boy-on-boy action.
I thought this was funny because I was listening to the DVD commentary for the first ep and the commentators stated that it was a good idea to have them kissing. They actually used the word "kiss."

The 1st two weeks of the season Smallville has done great in the ratings.

I believe Kypton has been sending it's leaders to other planets for a long time and that is how the cave was formed/written.

There will be many more flash backs over the next few season to let us know the Smallville/Clark/Jor-El/Cave past.

I thought this was the worst episode of Smallville so far. The onlt thing I did like was Jorel's link to the Kents.

Well, that's why I was asking about that episode, because I couldn't remember if it was supposed to be Jor El or not. So, if Kryptonians have been visiting Earth all this time, is this Smallville's answer to everything alien related now? Will we learn Roswell was just Kryptonians out for a Sunday drive? That Kryptonians have been making crop circles? Kryptonians were the ones inserting anal probes in to grandpaw?

I am not sure where the writers are going with this, but I guess one day the caves are going to take the place of the crystals in the Superman movie and will ultimately teach him the history of Krypton. In the comics, how did Clark learn about his true heritage and the history of the world?

That's what I've been thinking for awhile now.
