Enterprise 11/05/03
Episode Title: 'Twilight'
A spatial distortion leaves Archer unable to form any new long-term memories. Years in the future, he wakes up one morning and is stunned to learn the outcome of the human-Xindi conflict. Directed By: Robert Duncan McNeill AICN gives this episode 4 stars and says it's the best of the season. We'll decide that, thanks. ;) |
So, Ethan/Barash is back in a remake of TNG episode Future Imperfect?
|
It's a good sign to start with that AICN reviewed the episode considering they've only reviewed around 3 episodes in the whole of 2003.
|
This part by AICN has me very interested and was the point I stopped reading their review:
Is this a hoax, a dream, or an imaginary episode? Spoiler:

Today I resolved to approach tonight’s episode with an open mind and try to give this sucker a break. I’ve tried this before and failed. Oh, well. This is going to be one of those things where, if you don’t mind the stoopid way they end it, it would be a good episode. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid. |
THIS IS CETI ALPHA 5!!!!!!

Sam, Gooshie says you've got to overload the plasma injectors so you can leap!
|
Wow.. good episode
|
I thought it was good. they're lucky they cured archer, or the planet would have turned into a desert in 200 years and killed them anyway
|
Watching Enterprise is a lot like jerking off. While you're in the middle of it, it's a lot of fun, but ultimately it's an unsatisfying experience. Tonight's episode is a perfect example of this.
As for the promo for next week, I am simply stunned beyond words. How incredibly lame. |
the only lame thing I can see in next weeks is that TOS did it a lot so it's not original

it was good until the end. archer can take 2 shots and keep going and the others fall after 1? how far can their relationship progress if he can only remember a few hours?
|
maybe she's really bad in bed so she stuck with archer since he couldn't remember
|
They most be watching Babylon 5 dvds.. It resembles so much of it :p I just watched.. hmm blaloch needs to be taught how to smile as tapol.. hmm maybe hoshi and blaloch can do things in that UV room..
I know perverse and very geeky, but I am not watching the show for a dialectical commentary on life.. Its alrite but more skin I say. |
Although a ripoff of "Year of Hell" and "Yesterday's Enterprise" with a little "All Good Things...." mixed in, this actually turned out pretty good.
Exactly what good are the MACOs if the Xindi continue to board the ship and take it over easily every time they do? If I'm taking this right: in a decade, the ship will have shields but the weapons won't be improved? Edit to add: you know it's a bad night when Enterprise is the best among the shows you've watched for the evening (Smallville, Angel, South Park). |
they were given the shields recently from some other guy (he mentioned his name)
Its logical to assume other species wouldnt want to help the humans advance technologically because they were afraid of the xindi. Clearly they targeted phlox. |

I thought it was the best episode of the entire series. Sure, you can find similarities between it and other Trek (a twisted "Inner Light") or Babylon 5 or whoever's episodes. But I haven't seen it done this way before. And it was a departure from the same ol same ol "hunt them dang Xindi down" episodes.

This was one of the best episodes of the entire series so far (which granted, isn't saying a whole lot but whatever). Sure it was a ripoff of any number of sci-fi shows but there are no original ideas left in Hollywood so I don't complain about recycling anymore.
Did Mayweather get killed in the initial attack or something because he was AWOL for the majority of the episode. And I gotta tell you, that beard thing was not working for Reed. It didn't make him look older, it made him look like a Klingon reject from TOS without the tan. My one complaint is that yeah, Archer needed to die a lot sooner than he did at the end. Did those parasites make him super archer or something. Phlox I can understand, he fell head first onto the floor, T'Pol, no excuse at all for her to be down after one shot. I'm sure the writers were going for heroic but didn't work out. |
Remember -- vulcans have thier heart located at the side. She could of gotten a direct hit in that area.
yes im grasping. ;) |

I’m ashamed to be associated with those of you who liked this one. I suppose it means youse guys don’t mind the destination as long as the trip was fun. The destination in this case was opening the door to catch Jason in the middle of wanking off. But, hell, it’s only third season. Some of these things take time to develop. FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS! |
I disagree.
--It COULD of been 'all a dream' --it COULD of been 'the ghost of Christmas FUTURE' type time traveler trying to 'teach him a lesson of the importance of this mission' --It COULD of been a mind trip from some xindi interrogators Those 3 would of been a huge let down -- well below what we got. One of those were what I was dreading and was plesantly surprised with our ending. No, I wasnt enthralled with it but happy. We saw some character development and it was REAL, not a hologram, not all in archers head. It was a real development of time placed on the characters we have. Sure some was lame but I dont expect a feature length movie plot in 1 hour. Especially since we all KNOW archer will be fine at the end. |
Originally posted by Jason Watching Enterprise is a lot like jerking off. While you're in the middle of it, it's a lot of fun, but ultimately it's an unsatisfying experience. Originally posted by Wizdar The tension of waiting to find out what kind of lameass excuse they would find to resolve the episode was not unlike when you have to fart REAL BAD but just can’t. And when you get to someplace where you can let it rip, it doesn’t happen. Next week we get a remake of some kind of Spectre of the Fistful of Datas sort of thing. Oh yeah, that'll suck! |
I've been a supporter of the series while TOS fans continued to bash the new episodes, however, I didn't care too much for last night's episode because I knew how it would end, whether it was a dream sequence or not, so I knew everything happening was, essentially, not going to happen.
I just think the timeline epsiodes have been played out since TOS movie when they went whale hunting. It too easily gives the whole series an out any time they want it. |
I think a lot of you people are TV SNOBS :p ;)
HEY GUESS WHAT -- Main characters never die before the series ends! Unless there are verifiable rumors of actors wanting out of a series you can expect them to survive EACH EPISODE. WOW! -- Most plots are resolved by the end of each episode! Unless an episode is plugged as a '3 parter' or something, all things are resolved by the time the episode is over. Why are people so bitter because thier advanced logic has recognized these 2 elements in a television series? You arent paying for the episode. Do you feel ripped off because its not a full length 2 and a half hour epic movie that encapsulates humanity and makes you a better person? Did anyone seriously expect earth to have been destroyed? Only the clever ones didn't get sucked in! Good thing you were looking for it! ;) Are you saying "hey they should of never tried to show the future as it could of been!" I suppose they should stick to planet hopping and resolving differences between ancient cultures in 1 hour episode time slots like before? What do you expect out of your Teevee shows? This one gave me: 1. Decent character development 2. Good special effects 3. An interesting take on events if Archer is taken out of command Yes "getting there" was the whole episode. But seriously, if you wanted earth to be destroyed and humanity wiped out you should of turned the channel--Im sorry they tricked you. ;) |
Originally posted by Save Ferris We saw some character development and it was REAL SleepyW nails it. Ferris, you might consider reading some REAL SF some time for a comparison. |
im not saying it was the best ever. Even for a tv show.
The development was REAL because you KNOW how the characters would react in the situation. It wasnt imaginary. Yes its a time traveling episode of sorts, but things panned out for each character as they would of chosen things. To me, nothing is lost because the characters made thier decisions and that gives you a look into what makes them tick. Taking back time wouldnt change who they were in that situation. Lots of shows are better. This one was good. |

general somebody, I forgot the name but at the time I was thinking that it almost sounded klingon

Originally posted by Save Ferris ummm.. you arent comparing a teevee show to a NOVEL are you? Perhaps I’m just a moron, but I didn’t see any “character development” in this episode. If by “character development” you mean, fer instance, that T’Pol has suddenly developed an affection for Archer, then that’s about as well developed as Archer’s sudden [this season] change from Gomer to Mr. Badass. This is not something that “develops,” it just happens. We don’t even understand what it is that motivates T'’ol. Is it love? Sense of loyalty? Who the hell knows? And thanks for comparing Trek with Asimov. Among the SF giants, Asimov was the worst as far as character development is concerned. I think a quote from The Princess Bride works here: “You keep using that word. I don’t thin you know what it means.” This isn’t the first time they’ve used some trick to present a concept for an entire episode (or two) and then wipe out the whole thing Dallas style by some hack plot device. I dare say it won’t be the last. If they are going to continue, perhaps they should bring back Seven Days. Originally posted by Jim in Cincy Are we there yet!! Are we there yet!! -ohbfrank- Perhaps? Clearly you didn't notice that Reed had a goatee. A GOATEE!! If that's not character development, then I don't know what is. das |

I yield to the wisdom that is das Monkey. I am SUCH a moron. For my punishment, I shall subject myself to a Battlestar Galactica marathon. :D Fleeing the Xindi tyranny, the last battleship, Enterprise, leads a rag-tag fugitive fleet… |
Originally posted by Wizdar Fleeing the Xindi tyranny, the last battleship, Enterprise, leads a rag-tag fugitive fleet… Crap, your edit beat me to it. |
I think this episode did show how far Tpol is loyal to Archer and why -- he saved her life 2 times now (despite any love interest, which she denied and may just be phlox's confusing loyalty for love).
They touched on tripps attitude with tpol as a direct superior. And also how he responds behind the helm AS captain. Its not Heinlein ;) but its ok for an hour on a wednesday. |
I have always said that Starfleet should get some sort of starfighter. Sure big ships have more powerfull weapons but once they get a few hits, the whole ships's weapons tend to go off-line. Smaller fighters might not have the full force of the large ship but should be more meuneverable(sp?) and the amount of them would make up for the lesser firepower.
Take last nights episode (great episode BTW. Favorite of the series), if Archer hadn't had the parasites killed, it is assumed the Zindi would have gone on to wipe out that planet, killing of most of the remaining humans. They had the Intrepid and the Enterprise as defense, that got wiped out. I think if they had a lot of fighters, the battle would have turned out differently. Several fighters would divert the Zindi's concentration between the ships and would stand more of a chance for them to disable the Zindi before they destroyed the planet. (Of course, they should kill the Zindi without mercy for revenge for taking out Earth) |
Wow. It's interesting to read the extremes in opinion on this episode! For me, it was a waste from the moment they blew up Earth. I knew then that everything that happens, WON'T happen, so the story is just an "imaginary tale".
And next week, I may actually skip it. -eek- |
I wonder how many people the ear wigs took care of in the time they spent on Ceti Alpha V?
|
Originally posted by Bronkster And next week, I may actually skip it. -eek- Wait. I got this Tivo thingie. :whofart: Bronkster, ya gotta admit, for a third-rate story with a painfully obvious method of conclusion that held absolutely no surprises whatever, it wasn’t half bad, yes? |
