Stephen King's The Talisman series coming to Netflix from The Duffer Bros.

I just saw on the IMDB that The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub is in pre-production, probable releaseis 2005. I think with Steven Spielberg this will turn ot to be a rather decent adaptation.

Great book, glad to hear it's finally being made. I've read about this "coming soon" since the early nineties. Perhaps if it's a hit, we'll see a film of the even better Black House.

SunMonkey 11-11-03 09:52 PM

I hope it works out well. I like this book a lot (more than anything else King wrote, or co-wrote - haven't read Black House yet).

Cool - I better start reading the copy I've had lying around for over a year!

“Fault in Our Stars” and “New Mutants” director Josh Boone will write Amblin Entertainment’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “The Talisman.” Although he’s currently just set to pen the script, there is a possibility he could eventually direct as well.

Frank Marshall is producing the film with Michael Wright exec producing.

Based on the best-selling novel, the movie follows a boy, who in order to save his mother from certain death, enters a parallel world known as the Territories in search of a powerful talisman.

Amblin had initially been developing the project as a TV show, but has since decided to turn it into a film.

Boone has had a long-standing relationship with the author after being tapped to write and direct an adaptation of “The Stand.” When that project was put on hold, the iconic writer tasked Boone with penning an adaptation of “Revival,” which is currently in development.

Hollywood has been busy with King adaptations with “Dark Tower” and “It,” which recently became the biggest horror film of all time, grossing $606 million worldwide. His TV work is also heating up, with Audience Network renewing “Mr. Mercedes” for Season 2 while Hulu is currently shooting “Castle Rock,” which Bad Robot is producing.

Boone broke out as a helmer when he wrote and directed the box office hit “The Fault in Our Stars.” He recently helmed Fox’s “X-Men” spinoff “New Mutants” with Anya Taylor-Joy and also wrote “The Pretenders” from James Franco.

He is repped by CAA and attorney Greg Slewett of Bloom Hergott.

Read The Talisman when it first came out in the 80s. Really enjoyed it. Never got around to reading Black House tho.

Thread should really be titled "Stephen King AND Peter Straub's The Talisman."

I've been re-reading IT, and this is another King book that I definitely want to revisit. I've avoided the sequel because I haven't heard much good about it.

It’s more of a Dark Tower novel with Talisman characters, was the problem. And a large portion of it takes place in the “regular” world instead of The Territories.

Did you read any of the rest off this topic specifically 2 posts before yours?

Anyway The Talisman was my favorite King (and Straub) book when I read in decades ago.

Still havent read The Black House yet.

I felt like Straub's participation helped keep King's penchant for long long very detailed histories of his characters in check on Talisman.

Black House, which I thought wasn't too bad but not as good as The Talisman, which I think is fantastic.

Seems like we're getting a serious Peter Straub Renaissance in Hollywood.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let’s slow things down a bit. This production is moving way too fast!

lol sorry, just going by what I've heard. I've been wanting to read it regardless but have been putting it off because of what I heard but maybe I'm mixing it up with another title.

Well you did pose it as a question. Either way I think it’s his best book. Having Straub as his writing partner, and I have no idea in what capacity, helps keep him on track even though it’s still a long book I don’t think King meanders they way he has been known to do.
