I watch the shows, but I don't read/post in the threads
I watch 24, but after the 1st season, I stopped reading the threads because people were ruining surprises that I didn't want to know about. Apparently, some people had gotten information about upcoming storylines or guest stars and posted them. To be honest, I don't remember if the information was spoilered or not (if it was, I probably stupidly read it anyway). Just to make things easier, I just avoid the weekly threads.
Same thing with Alias. I've watched the show since the beginning, but people love to tell others about future episodes. I'm not slamming anybody, because I know some people like to know what's going to happen in the future. Me, I like to be surprised. I don't go so far as to avoid the previews for the next week's episode, but I don't want to know that so-and-so is going to guest star at some point or that Sydney's 1st grade teacher is going to reappear as a kabuki assassin to try to woo Marshall and obtain CIA secrets (I made that up, by the way).
24 and Alias are the type of shows where I definitely don't want to know what's going to happen next. That's the joy of watching those shows, in my opinion. Why would I want to ruin that for myself? It's easiest just to avoid those threads in case somebody posts something that I don't want to know.
I also watch Smallville, but don't post in the threads for an entirely different reason. Mainly, it's because I don't think the show is that great and I don't want to be accused of thread crapping. So why do I keep watching? It has to do with comfort and routine. I've watched since the first episode (I thought the show was somewhat decent back then and thought Kristin Kreuk was really cute...I think she's less cute now), and watching the show became part of my routine. I scoff at all the people who think Smallville is the best show on TV, but they're entitled to their opinions and I don't want to bash them in those threads. I'll admit that it's somewhat enjoyable (especially anytime Emmanuelle Vaugier gets any screentime), but I'd have to rate the show as average to below-average, at best.
There might be a few more shows that I watch but don't bother reading or replying to the weekly threads, but I can't think of any right now. The three that I listed, though, are ones that I definitely make sure I avoid.

I had to do the same thing with 24. The problem is that they have spoiler-filled promos for that show, and there's a lot of us here in the forum that don't watch them. However, there are also many who do, and ignore the repeated requests to put information about upcoming episodes in spoiler tags.
Sometimes they do put the info in spoiler tags, but they word it in such a way that they might as well not used it. A fictional, but representative example:

I know that the character of Rusty doesn't die because in the promo for next week...

i dont read 24 threads because they become 5 pages in a couple of hours, they are usually 2 or 3 pages before the show even airs. I don't read Alias threads because I just started watching it and am a season behind. I started reading Smallville threads, but haven't noticed too much of stubstance in them. Enterprise threads have all become bashing threads.

24 is bad with having promos filled with spoilers, but i'm getting sick of NBC's "ripped from the headlines" L&O promos or the "tension filled, life altering" promos read by "Mr. Serious Dramatic Voice" for practically every. single. show. on their network..

That's my feelings exactly. I too have watched from the begining and don't find it to be that engrossing but don't want to wander into a thread and rain on the Smallville fan's parade. My wife asked me last year why we watched the show and I really had no answer. I told her it was building to something greater but now I'm pretty sure it isn't and I watch out of habit. Anyway, it's good to see I'm not alone.

I'm just like a couple of you when it comes to Smallville. I read the thread for last week's season premiere and I felt like posting, but it'd be too much like a threadcrap.
During the first season, I had several reasons why I watched even though most episodes were filled with really bad elements. Some of the reasons I watched disappeared during the second season. The first season had the best special effects and some of the best action scenes I'd ever seen on TV, but I can't think of anything impressive from all last year.
Also, I hate monster of the week episodes and my favorite part of most episodes of Smallville were the last 5 minutes where they would actually deal with ongoing storylines. In the second season they started dropping some of the monster of the week stuff but I guess the creators behind Smallville aren't talented enough to stretch those 5 minutes to a whole hour.
To get back on topic I'll say that I don't really remember having a problem with people spoiling stuff here. I do remember when I first started watching Buffy a few years ago, I would read all the Buffy stories on aintitcool.com and they would spoil all kinds of things. It was pretty hard to resist reading some of the stories especially during the summer between seasons.

Enterprise threads are pretty safe, since we mostly just hang around drinking beer and trashing the show. Occasionally, some poor soul wanders in who actually likes the show, but as long as he brings more beer we try not to make fun of him.

If you're looking for a refreshing change, hit the Enterprise thread sometime. Can't recall ever seeing an "Ooo I can't wait for this ep" post.

I knew it!!! I'm out there giving my honest opinion about the show in the face of rabid fandom, and you guys are leaving me hanging out there to fend for myself!!!
How are the show's producers going to know what's wrong if we don't speak out ... and how will Kristen Kreuk know what time to show up at my house for "dinner"?das

Besides, I think the people who are really in love with Smallville probably aren't mature enough to handle any constructive criticism of the show.
