Enterprise 10-01-03

Episode Title: 'Rajiin'

The NX-01 gets closer to a showdown with the Xindi when Captain Archer takes on an enigmatic passenger: a beautiful slave named Raijin.
Written By: Brent V. Friedman
Directed By: Mike Vejar

Maybe I should of gone with Star Trek (sic) Enterprise for the thread title? thanks das ;)

Wizdar 10-01-03 07:16 AM

Naw. Trying to put those two together is just (sic).

WTF is an “NX-01”? Has anybody used “1701” to refer to the ship/crew in the past? Or is the unnamed author too embarrassed to use the “E” word?

And, about the opening credits: has the “big change” happened? I mean, I notice the unfortunate juxtaposition of words that caused Tivo Season Pass folks some grief. And they threw some caffeine at the song. Is that it? I mean, is that it? Knowwhadahmean?

Save Ferris 10-01-03 09:03 AM

Ok maybe I missed an episode (gasp!) but how come the ship isnt bending the laws of physics anymore--balooning up and turning crewmembers inside out?

I dont recall them mentioning they retrofitted the ships hull. Was it thrown in somewhere as an afterthought instead of a plot point?

Now, you should be able to answer that question yourself. ;)

A plot point involves thinking ahead and planning
Afterthought, well.....doesn't

Which fits Enterprise better? :)

Save Ferris 10-01-03 09:21 AM

I know, I know but its BUGGING me because I was looking for it. Did i miss it being mentioned? Did they even say "Hey Trip, work on lining the ship hull"

The pirate prisoner MENTIONED lining the hull but geez is that all we get?

Chew 10-01-03 09:39 AM

This is hardly a complete or accurate answer, but here you go:

[IMO]"The Expanse" episode last season involved plenty of ship updates. They didn't go into detail of everything. Which means, they can explain away anything they want to in the future as being part of the upgrades in that episode. [/IMO]

Phil L. 10-01-03 10:35 AM

I'm sure ratings this week will soar once all the "trekkies" realize that this is a "Star TreK"- Enterprise show, and not just a plain old Enterprise show.

Good scripts? Bah! Who needs good scripts? -wink-

Wizdar 10-01-03 03:10 PM

All the “trekkies” already know that this ain’t “Star Trek,” ain’t never been “Star Trek,” and ain’t never gonna be “Star Trek.”

You can say that a pig is a cow, but that don’t make it Kosher.

(And, yes, I know you’re joking. But 5 bucks says at least two readers won’t get it. ;) )

Patman 10-01-03 03:46 PM

But does it taste like chicken?

Wizdar 10-01-03 03:50 PM

OK. Three.

True idiocy is when you try to speak on behalf of everyone.

Chew 10-01-03 07:21 PM

 Another week, another stupid TiVo problem: didn't record again. This time I didn't catch it in time and missed the opening.

The TiVo gods are trying to tell me something.

Phil L. 10-01-03 08:12 PM

It was good to see the kid from MASK as the seller of female slaves.

SleepyW 10-01-03 09:42 PM

Man...tough crowd...

I never got into the old Star Trek, but I've really enjoyed Enterprise...haven't missed an episode (no Tivo issues here-my PVR works just fine:)). I this episode was pretty good...even got the kids hooked on it now.

Naval Experimental 01.

The Enterprise here is the first deep space warp vessel... so technically it's still experimental.

Deftones 10-02-03 12:49 AM

stupid Tivo didn't record it b/c of the name change. Bastards!

Rogue588 10-02-03 01:33 AM

whoa..

does tivo contain an AI chip..?

I think Chew's right..it seems it's trying to tell you guys something..

HEED its warning.

You have to change your subscription, but honestly, you'd think it would be smart enough to do the change on it's own.

Well, the anomalies aren't constant, but are random in their appearance and severity. And "The Expanse" mentioned trellium-d, "Anomaly" mentioned that trellium-d helps to protect ships from the anomalies.

In "Rajiin" they go to an alien bazaar to find out from a chemist how to synthesize it and Trip and T'Pol spend the rest of the episode working on making trellium-d.

Now, now: be nice. I think the Ballsonchin race should be better respected. ;)

I changed the Season Pass to Star Trek: Enterprise last week. Once again, it disappeared some time yesterday. I deleted that pass out and re-added Star Trek: Enterprise. It still only catches the episode from last night and not next weeks. Guess a Manual Pass needs to be in order until things settle.

"Captain, the Xindi are approaching the airlock"
"Repel boarders"
"How many MACO should be sent?"
"Ummmmmmmmm........three??"
"While you're at it, make sure the transporter pad is left unguarded"

What's with the Trek universe when it comes to boarding the ship? Nemesis wasn't much better when the Remans boarded.

All-in-all, better than last week though. Simply for the fact that the "arc" seems to be forming: Enterprise is preparing to coat the hull, the Xindi search continues, Trip is still getting rub-downs, Phlox mentions the Captain's transformation from last week, the Xindi are trying to pull a Saddam by making a bio weapon (does Bush know?). Although not even remotely approaching a B5 arc level, I can't remember the last time so many Trek storylines are mentioned and carried over from week to week.

The overall writing still needs a lot of work, however.

lisadoris 10-02-03 06:57 AM

My PVR didn't tape this week (though it caught it last week so I'm confused). Changed the subscription though I'll have to catch it on Saturday. Glad to hear this was at least better than last week's though that's not saying a whole hell of a lot is it?

Bandoman 10-02-03 08:32 AM

Just wanted to say that, once again, I didn't watch. For those of you who were wondering. I do like reading these threads though. They're funny. :D

Patman 10-02-03 08:34 AM

So was this episode any good? I had way too much to watch last night.

Trek good? No
Enterprise good? Hmm.....sorta

Phil L. 10-02-03 08:43 AM

Does the Enterprise have the WORST security in the entire universe or what?

For the second time, hostile aliens have managed to board their vessel and pretty much do whatever they wanted, with once again only one dead or captured intruder.

I saw a few soldiers from that special force but they were clearly no help.

Plus, how much of a direct ripoff of Star Wars was that, where they blasted open the bulkhead door while inadequate defenders waited with weapons pointed at the explosion site.?!?

Fielding Mellish 10-02-03 08:46 AM

Okay, after the lackluster premiere, I was finally ready to walk away from Enterprise… just like I walked away from Voyager after a season or two. After the buzz on this forum, though, I caught Sunday's rerun of that "Death Star" episode and was marginally impressed.

But it's sure starting to look like a fluke. Just like the "Automated Repair Station" ep from S2. And one episode a season is hardly reason to tune in week after week.

The paint-by-numbers acting and direction, paint-drying pacing, and uncomfortable junior-high-level T&A high jinks, however, are perfectly good reasons to tune out. The only thing Enterprise seems truly good at… is reminding me how much I miss Farscape.

Hell, I'm always going top give first preference to Ed anyways. I just can't believe how much it pains me to finally "throw in the towel" on Trek.

Wizdar 10-02-03 09:52 AM

Isn’t most T&A (that doesn’t expose the yummy bits) on the “junior-high-level”?

No Tivo record for me either. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), I also had it taped from my non-Tivo box.

I now have two Season Passes that look identical. Except that the old one says there are no future episodes, and the new one says 3. I assume that one of those is for the Sunday repeat. It’ll be interesting to see what hijinks will happen next week.

One poster on the Tivo board said he had Bacula and “Enterprise” in his wish list and didn’t miss this one. I don’t know if the show is worth going to that much trouble, especially since there’s always Sunday.

As others have said, I think Tivo is trying to tell us something.

Tivo is smart. Tivo will make us go.
;)

Yeah, me too. I'm supposed to be a Star Trek fan (trekker, trekkie, whatever). I actually go to the conventions so I feel an obligation to try and keep up with each Trek series but they are making it unbearably difficult. I gave up on Voyager after the second season and Enterprise the middle of the first season. I'm going to give it a try though, hopefully the episodes will get better.

It's that sense of optimism in the face of impossible odds that characterized Trek for so many years. *sigh*

Strangely, I think those are the exact points where I gave up on those respective series as well. I caught maybe 2-3 'random' episodes of Voyager later in the run. And I think I may have watched an Enterprise last year. But I'm done. I'll just watch my DVDs of the good shows.

Bronkster 10-02-03 09:12 PM

I have no Tivo to help me in missing this, and my damn VCR recorded it! Grr! :)

OK, I just watched last night's episode and was not impressed for many of the same reasons already stated. One thing I noticed is that in the first three episodes this season, the music had drastically improved over the last few seasons, but last night, it was suck! It didn't enhance any of the action, and almost seemed to drag down what little action there was.

mikehunt 10-05-03 10:20 PM

at least this episode had a little more substance than the T&A previews suggested. I wanted more sex slave and hoshi though
and now that we got more looks at the reptiles all I can say is, Galaxy Quest
any ideas on what type of rifles the marines have?

Deftones 10-06-03 12:54 AM

good episode. more people die. that's what needs to happen every week. more murdering. kill some innocents.

I didn't realize Star Wars invented that.

mikehunt 10-06-03 02:06 AM

we know for a fact they're going to the starboard airlock
then only send 3 people

lisadoris 10-06-03 05:27 PM

OK finally saw this episode. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. Thankfully it wasn't the blatant ripoff of the TNG ep "The Perfect Mate" which is how the promos made it look. At least the writers are trying to keep the arch going though where in the hell where the soldier guys when the ship's being overrun with Xindi? Did Archer drop them off on some other planet or are they just useless at this point?

madcougar 10-06-03 07:44 PM

I was soooo excited when I first heard the premise of Enterprise, but it's been all down hill since then (when I heard the premise!).

I guess the whole temporal cold war thing is being put on the back burner, huh?

Couldn't they at least pretent that some of these aliens don't speak English.

Face/Off 10-06-03 10:54 PM

You really don't know how they explained that aliens speak English?

I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I was looking forward to seeing this "military" in action, but they only send a few (guess the rest were off duty) and then they reteat at the first sign of hostile fire.

Veeeeerrrrrrry disappointing.
