I know the show had its detractors but I thought it was great. A couple episodes in the second season weren't so-so but even then, the performances were all great and I really liked the different SF spins the writers put in each episode. The first episode of Season 2 was probably one of the highlights of television for me.

However I wanted new stuff to watch so I went back to watching new programs and waiting for them to cancel everything.

I still think cliffhangers are a horrible idea unless they KNOW it's picked up.

Shows are produced months before a renewal announcement. They usually wrap filming a season around March or early April. Renewal announcements are in mid May. The writers and producers can't wait until a network decides if it's coming back to write a cliffhanger ending or not. Sometimes you just have to go with what is the most effective storytelling element for a season Finale and cliffhangers are part of that. That's usually the show runners decision.
