Sci Fi / Cult TV Tournament : ROUND 1A

I meant to start this last weekend but got so busy... finally, the Sci Fi Cult TV tournament is here!! Vote for your favorite in each match!

I had so many shows nominated last week I decided to make it a 64 show tournament instead of 32 shows. All the shows that got 2 or more nominations made the tournament... the rest were picked randomly from the shows with one nomination to round out the 64.

a few notes...

- Matches were picked at random.. so please don't complain thats your favorite show got a bad match in the opening round, it was the luck of the cards.

- Please don't complain the show "X" isn't a "real" sci fi or cult show... these are the shows that were nominated. Blame the people who nominated them!

enough talking, lets vote!!!

#1-- Twilight Zone
#2-- I haven't seen Ultraviolet yet and shouldn't vote in this one.
#3-- Twin Peaks
#4-- Buck Rogers
#5-- American Gothic
#6-- Flying Circus
#7-- The Avengers
#8-- Invisible Man

Some pretty easy votes there. The matchups are interesting as well. Just the Ten of Us?!?

Hey don't joke about Just the Ten of Us . I didn't nominate it but I remember it.

1. Twilight Zone
2. Stargate SG-1
3. Twin Peaks (the trekkie in me hates to do this but I have to)
4. Buck Rogers
5. American Gothic
6. Flying Circus
7. The Avengers
8. Invisible Man

1-Zone, easily no explanation necessary
2-Ultraviolet, a bit closer, I just loved the excellent performances and character development
3-Peaks, easily more culty
4-Buck Rogers, wins by the thinness of Erin Gray's spandex outfits
5-Gothic-oooohh, a toughie, I dug both of these shows. I feel that 1999 is much more culty, but Gothic was far better quality.
6-Circus, see below.
7-Avengers, any cast. Megalocamp.
8-Reboot-Invisible Man was good, but I have a Hexadecimal action figure for a reason.

Cripes, #3 is the only pair of which I've seen both shows. So:

#3 - Twin Peaks.

Not like this is scientific or anything anyway, but this brings up a good point: if you haven't actually seen the shows, please don't vote just out of reputation or because one sounds like it would be better.

#1 - The Twilight Zone (rough first round match for Dead Like Me)
#2 - Ultraviolet (Teryl Rothery gives me the hot, but not enough)
#3 - Twin Peaks (Die, you genocidal bitch, die.)
#4 - Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (Erin be thy name)
#5 - American Gothic (Ouch, that's tough)
#6 - Monty Python's Flying Circus (complete no-brainer)
#7 - The Avengers (who nominated this crap? )
#8 - The Invisible Man (absolutely criminal how this series got caught up in Hammer's ascension to Demonhood)

Well, I was one of them. This isn't the movie version we're talking about here, you know. I love my 16 DVD Emma Peel Megaset and just rewatched a couple of classic episodes (Epic, The Superlative Seven) the other day.

I've seen "The Twilight Zone" and "Twin Peaks", but none of the others, so I guess I'll just sit out this round.

Honk!

Ah, my apologies. I should've guessed that. Aside from the fact that it had 3 different cast members from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, it's definitely hard to see Just the Ten of Us as a "cult" show.

Still, Heather Langenkamp = (but she's no Diana Rigg)

Yeah, once we get down to the "Sweet Sixteen" and beyond, I'm sure things will start getting a little more heated.

You're not going to get me to vote against Dead Like Me, so I guess the only show I'm going to vote for is:

Yeah, Dead Like Me gets The freakin' Twilight Zone, but The Avengers skates by with Just the Ten of Us. That's harsh.

My votes.....

MATCH #1 - TWILIGHT ZONE

MATCH #2 - STARGATE SG1

MATCH #3 - STAR TREK VOYAGER

MATCH #4 - VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA

MATCH #5 - SPACE 1999

MATCH #6 - MONTY PYHTONS FLYING CIRCUS

MATCH #7 - THE AVENGERS

MATCH #8 - INVISIBLE MAN

Glad to see a few of my choices among the early competitors. Just the Ten of Us was an interesting nomination. If it somehow advances a few rounds, does it sort of negate the legitimacy of our little tourney? Perhaps it was more of a cult show than I remember.

Despite being a bit cheesy and dated, I Still love watching Space: 1999 and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is my #1 want for TV shows on DVD that isn't out or announced yet.
