west wing question
I've never watched this show, but I'm going to start watching the first season on DVD pretty soon, then start watching it on Bravo when they start the second season. My question is, should I also start watching the current season when it starts next month? I'm not sure how episodic it is; are they mostly standalone epsides?

the show can be episodic but have threads that are revisited after not hearing about them for awhile. however, that being said, now that sorking is gone
it may be different. my opinion, is that you can probably start S5 and be fine while watching bravo to catch up.

I've been watching on Bravo and missed a couple shows last week. I hadn't watched the show before, but it seems to me you can probably start watching at any point. They started the first show about a year into the President's first term. No matter where you start watching, even from the beginning, it will probably take you a few shows before you really feel like you know what's going on and who is who.

I didn't start watching the show until season 3 and Roto's correct, it will take awhile before you really know everything that's going on. However, you'll still get the gist of everything and if not, that's what this board is for.

Does anyone know if Bravo plans to play every episode up to the end of season four? If that is the case they should have all of them shown by the end of the year, I can tivo the new season 5 episodes and start watching them when Bravo is done.

I tried to watch this last year and found it really boring. However, I've been watching it on Bravo and love it, so I think that it was a matter of not understanding the characters. Yes, you can understand what's going on without seeing earlier seasons, but for me at least, I couldn't care about what was going on without the background.

If you had a way to record S5 (or whatever season is coming up), then I would do that, and then do as you mentioned earlier... watch S1 on DVD, S2 on Bravo, and so on. I think the biggest pay-off with shows like this comes with following characters from the beginning of their arcs through to the end.
