Season three did start off a bit slow, especially after the big revelation at the end of season two. But once you get to about episode eight (Messages from Earth), which is the beginning of a big three episode story arc, there are no less than three HUGE things that happen. As in bigger than anything you've seen in the first two seasons.

Season four doesn't really do this, though, as A LOT happens in the first six episodes. Well, actualy, the second through sixth. The first episode of season four doesn't really have a lot of meat in it.

Bandoman 08-13-03 08:40 PM

I know we're not starting to talk about episodes until next week, but I can't resist this (especially since I found out today that I'll be out of my office, and away from my computer, much of next week).

I just watched Ep.4 "Passing Through Gethsemane", and what was presented almost as a "throwaway line" absolutely floored me:

Spoiler:
Lennier said to Brother Edward that Valen, the great Minbari spiritual leader and founder of the Grey Council, appeared a thousand years ago. He is believed to be a Minbari not born of other Minbari.

Sinclair = Valen?!?!?! WTF? Could it be?!?!

This was a fine episode, even if it wasn't a "wham" episode. Dourif was superb, and that one line I mention above is a potential shocker.

Damn, I love this show!

I won't respond with the typical response to your question, Bando ;), but you have the answer to your question in your hands right now and won't have to wait too long.

You have no idea what I have in my hands.

Wait, that didn't sound right....

Bando, that's exactly why you have to watch every single episode, including the pilot to know what's going on.

I actually forgot some of the story and am a little sorry I read your spoiler. I just had a moment and it all came back to me. Oh well.

I'm up to episode 7. PQ is much improved over the earlier seasons. Great stuff. Now when's S4 and the TV movies coming out?

OK. Maybe Gray 17 Is Missing wasn’t all that great. But when you consider how many “filler” episodes there were (as in, count them on one hand and still have fingers left to scratch your butt?)
I love what JMS had to say about ray 17: "I think it's about 3/4ths of a good episode. Where it falls down, for me, is the Zarg...I just have this constant desire to go to everyone's house and personally apologize. . . . "

What looks good on paper doesnt always work out in front of the camera. This was just one of those times - he even says so up front.

elektra 08-14-03 06:15 AM

Filler or no Passing Through Gethsemane is one of the most brilliantly written shows ever. It's one of the best eps.

Again, it could be filler, but A View from the Gallery is one of those good all around episodes. One of the things that makes JMS such a great writer, IMHO, is his ability to tell a story from so many different perspectives. And he manages to hang on to continuity, too.

Chew 08-14-03 06:18 AM

Watched A View from the Gallery last night. It's just another episode that shows B5 takes risks and does things against the norm.

lisadoris 08-14-03 06:34 AM

Well my mom backed away from getting me S3 for my birthday so I taped PTI and drove 30 minutes (each way) to Best Buy to get it. I'll start wwatching this afternoon and be ready for the offical discussion on Monday. Can't wait!

Spoiler:
Hmmm. I remember that Delenn previously told Sinclair that when he was captured during the Earth-Minbari war it was determined that Minbari souls were being reincarneated in humans, which certainly implies that Sinclair's soul is Minbari (and this dovetails nicely with Lennier's explanation of the Minbari beliefs re: the soul in "Passing Through Gethsemane"). Perhaps Sinclair is the reincarnation of Valen and not Valen himself? I'm not sure how this would work, though, since it appears that Sinclair will be the one to move B4 through time to assist in the Shadow war 1000 years ago. It makes more sense to me, at this point, that he is the "Minbari not born of Minbari" to whom Lennier was referring.

It doesn’t appear that he has.

Of course, I could be wrong, and frequently am. ;)

Hhh.

Since this is something Kosh said to Sinclair at the end of Season 1 ("Chrysalis"), maybe Josh is just trying to pull a Kosh on you. ;)

Hi Bandoman!!! :)

Heh, heh, heh....

That's just because I haven't done that yet. You are sooooo close. How do you like the Marcus character?

Bandoman 08-14-03 11:24 AM

[waves to Elektra]

I'm not sure about Marcus yet. I'll have to wait to see what he does to know whether I like the addition of this character.

I like how Lyta has changed (if it is indeed the same Lyta we've seen previously).

Wizdar 08-14-03 11:39 AM

Dude, if I was gay, I'd have a thing for Marcus.

Chew 08-14-03 11:56 AM

elektra 08-14-03 01:25 PM

Marcus is a hottie.

Bando - yes, that is the same Lyta. But wait - there's soooooo much more for you to see about her. Heh, heh, heh.

Astro 08-14-03 01:44 PM

I hated Marcus when I was watching season 3 for the first time a few months ago... His character did eventually grow on me though.. sorta.

Wizdar 08-14-03 04:57 PM

Well, I just got a shipping confirmation.

DVDSoon is in Quebec, oui? (God only knows how the email got out.)

Looks like it’ll be a cold day in New York before I get my discs.

…leaving the door open for a little “back atcha” from Bando

Hey, you're ahead of me. Still haven't gotten the confirmation from Amazon.ca for mine. :(

dstrauss 08-14-03 06:37 PM

BTW, there is a MAJOR spoiler in the liner notes for the new season 3 DVDs. Don't read the descriptions for the episodes, *especially* the paragraph for "Z'ha'dum," until after you've seen the episode.

My DVDs were ordered from Amazon.ca about 11pm Monday evening and they showed up today. Not bad.

Seeker 08-14-03 10:03 PM

i wanna know more.

Bando - you pass episode 4 yet?
