What I really hate is when they use the laugh track on exterior shots. I can plausably accept the rules of sitcoms, that they are filmed in front of a live audience that tends to laugh hysterically. But that studio audience didn't travel to Central Park to watch Debra Messing run into a lightpole, so don't pretend that they did.

And that laughtrack on the Flintstones was watching the animators and started laughing whenever they drew something funny

I thought the most obviously fake laugh track was on Brady Bunch and Gillian's Island. If you listen closely, there are only about 6 different kinds of laughter. Ugh! So lame!

For some reason, the laugh track on Seinfeld sounded realistic like that they played a tape for an audience, for example, when one of Jerry's girlfriends in "the airport" says the line "squeezed my nipples together" there is sort of a delay laughter but only a few laughed at it.

i find it interesting that certain people love going to see comdey movies in the theatre because it's funnier when the other people in the theatre are laughing.

yet they will complain about it on TV shows.

not that I disagree, but I still find it interesting.

There's a difference between forced canned laughter, and spontaneous live laughter.

Yes.. big difference in being told when you should laugh and when you do laugh.
