Boy Meets Boy....
BOR-ING!
I guess they figured since they have the gay gimmick, they didn't have to do anything else original...it was just so 'blah'! I'll tune in for the novelty value, and to tune my gaydar by picking out the straight guys, but that's about it. FS |
I thought it was pretty dull too. Maybe that's just because it's just the first show, and they have to introduce everyone. Next week's episode looks a little better.
I didn't really find any of the guys particularly attractive, though. The only one I liked was the straight guy that got voted off! |
It was hard to get to "know" any of the 15 guys in such a short span before the 3 were already eliminated. HOWEVER, I already can't stand that Dan guy!
Right now, I'm thinking Sean(?) is straight. (The guy who gave James the CD of music upon meeting him. ) But I actually thought Chris was straight, too, because his body language and eyes when he was talking about his Mom seemed like he was lying. But yeah. . .they could have picked better looking men, be they gay or pretending! |
This is the GAYest idea for a show that i've ever heard of.
|
The worst thing about this show IMO is the candidates. I mean PLEASE! None of them were really outright BF material. Mark (the 33 y.o. lawyer) seemed to be the only decent one of the bunch. This guy is 32 and good looking. Why would he want to start dating these 20 something twinks?! Were there really no guys in their late 20's or 30's who were single, good looking, financially stable with a good job AND gay to put on this show? A wine steward? An actor? An ARTIST? YIKES! I could easily come up with 5 friends that would blow all these guys out of the water!
|
Re: 8/5 episode
Could James be any MORE wishy-washy?! Has he ever had a boyfriend for long than 2 dates that he didn't bore to tears! MY GOD MAN, make some choices ("Um, well they're all so sweet..."). I mean come on, he should have at least 4 main choices by now? Could you imagine him trying to decide to whom to talk in a BAR?! No wonder he's single. JEEZ! On another note, he has voted off 3 straight guys so he's unwittingly doing well (even if his hand was slightly forced by the producers during last night's selections). I can't believe he dropped Marc though... he was one of the better choices over all IMO. GET RID OF FREDERICK, THE TWINKY WINE STEWARD! Was Peter like 12? Paul wasn't much older. :D Dan is a smileball. I bet he's straight. |
This weeks episode was a slight improvement over the previous week. I liked the twist at the end, when the guys were shuffled into groups of 4. I would have gotten rid of that curly haired guy(fredrick?). He just gives me the creeps.
I would have given up all 12 of them for one night with Jorge, the dance instructor, though. |

Originally posted by rfduncan Dan is a smileball. I bet he's straight. Anyway, as a woman, I'm thinking that Sean is straight. What i want to know is how many of the 15 are straight?! It's already 3 out of 6 who've been eliminated! I think Robb and James would make a cute pair. Something I don't like about Michael. |
Yeah.. I'm not the only one who hates Dan. He is soo fake and I bet that he is just playing gay for the money.
|

Man, I love this show, I mean...... That girl Topanga!!! Wow!

You know, considering the contestants on Boy Meets Boy, Im seriously considering entering one of these myself as the quality is obviously so low. Both I and my friends rated me higher than any of the contestants on the show - indeed, I am sure I look better and have better taste than these 'artists' and 'real estate' people on the show. Give me a break. There are much better people out there and its a pity the main guy has to choose from such lowlives.
|
I saw part of this. I agree with the "dull" remarks. The straight twist aside, this show brings up an interesting dilemma that wasn't an issue in the other Bachelor-type shows. These guys are all staying together, competing for this guy. Why not just go after each other? Lots of available guys (as far as they know). I know it goes against the nature of the show, but if sparks are gonna fly... It happens on almost every other reality show. Hell, on Amazing Race people hook up with competitors all the time. Although maybe this DID get covered and I didn't watch enough.
|
I really can't stand "reality tv" anyway, and the multitude of "dating" shows seem mostly like trash, however, I can't believe Flashstash has to tune his gaydar
|
Boy Meets Boy - hah! how bout retitling this show "Twinks on Parade" these guys are totaling plastic.
So far all the straight guys they have 'de-gayed' have been the one's I have liked. :) |
Are we straight people supposed to know what "twink" means by now? I only know because I live with gay people... unless it's used on Will and Grace, I don't think much others have a way to find out what it means :)
What network is this on btw? |

Yeah, I don't think it's wise to type in "twink" in a search engine...
Is Bravo like the gay channel or something? I used to get the Canadian Bravo, and it mostly just showed Sex and the City and old softcore porn movies from England... |

Okay is it just me or is Andra a pain in the ass? I'm beginning to think SHE is one of the reasons James is still single!
While James successfully and unwittingly knocked out two more straight guys (Dan and Michael), he also dumped Matthew b/c of the conversation they had on their date?! WTF? The sentiments Matthew explained about not having an "instant attraction" should not have turned James off but rather have intruiged him! I mean so it is better that some 24 year old twink instantly "feels a connection" as opposed to another contestant who admittedly doesn't want to rush into anything? Granted the show DOES only take place across 20 days, but YEESH! James is a loser. Why exactly is Sean still there? Perhaps they have edited some stuff out, but I have never seen James and Sean interact. He is boring and gross. ALSO I noticed that he is no longer an "Artist" but an "Art Consulatant"or "Gallery Attendant". What the hell is that?! After last night, I will be rooting for Wes though I'd consider him "getting" James as the booby prize. |
Well, at least Dan is finally gone! (And Andra agreed on that one pretty quickly! )
Wes seemed very sincere with his conversation with James and to the camera. I wouldn't mind him "winning". I just don't think the setup of the show is very fair, as only a select few get one-on-one time. The 6-episode arc just isn't enough to really get to "know" the mates. While he may not be very attractive or extroverted, there's a quality to Sean I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the contrast of his quietness and the curiosity of what's going on in that mind. |

Granted the show DOES only take place across 20 days, but YEESH! James is a loser. He just seems incredibly wishy-washy and inconsistent. For example, though he admits that he is rather shy and quiet himself, he dings other mates that are the same. Or he says he wants monogamy, but keeps Dan around despite the (make-believe) boyfriend in NY. Or, like rfduncan's example above, he supposedly wants a long-term relationship -- but god forbid if it takes the other person a few days to feel that "connection". And seeing James hem & haw his way through the evictions week after week is getting incredibly tedious and frustrating. Just make a decision, dammit! After last night, I will be rooting for Wes though I'd consider him "getting" James as the booby prize. |
so.... what has been the ratio of straight guy to gay guy? It would be really interesting to see if Topganga is really truthful in saying to James that there is ONE straight guy, I think there is at least two remaining - of course I could be wrong.
Also what is up with Darren he is so cleverly hidden in the shadows and hasn't said much to James at all, it would really surprise me if he is gay after all this since the way the show is edited. The preview for next week's show gives a hint that he says something that inadvertantly reveals another straight guy. |
well that was a complete surprise, Darren, gay who knew? Of course it was no surprise that Sean was straight. My bets are on that Franklin is straight, of course there is that one sound bite from Wes in next week's show where he says "why does he assume that I'm gay". If Wes is not gay, he is complete scum, cause he certainly is kissing up to James. Can't wait to see James' girlfriend whig out next week, over the news that James was imparted with that one of the finalists is straight - this show is really kinda cruel.

Gay or straight. This format (a la Bachelor and Bachelorette) is tired. I could barely watch the first episode and have no interest watching the others.

Can't wait to see James' girlfriend whig out next week, over the news that James was imparted with that one of the finalists is straight - this show is really kinda cruel. Anyway, Franklin is clearly the straight one remaining. Aside from the fact that I suspected that all along, his pushiness to talk last night at dinner paired with the producers "dividing" for the vote cinched it. They paired the two straight guys up to be decided between so that they could guarantee one straight guy would be left for the end. I think it'd be interesting to see how everyone was grouped for the past eliminations b/c I think they've been hedging their bets THE WHOLE TIME to ensure a straight man made it to the end. Of course, James doesn't know that Sean was straight so he'll not be able to realize this. Personally, I find this show most insulting in terms of how the cast has been manipulated and shown in various "staged" conversations. I find it hard to believe that Andra and James had that "the bottom feels like it is going to drop out" conversation last night without being coaxed. The editing is also rather ridiculous. As far as the viewer knows, the "mates" hardly have a reason to be such intense friends with one another since we've hardly seen ANYONE be social (including James with any of the mates!). (Also Sean leaving Franklin a note with his phone number could be another "straight mates" tip off.) I was also disturbed that ANDRA - the fag hag - has NEVER seen James kiss anyone until she saw James kiss Darren? What the HELL is THAT all about?! James proved himself to be an even BIGGER prude last night with his "judgements" about Brian being a bartender. Um, I'm sorry but I'd rather date Brian than some low-level HR person who manages benefits all day and has been capable of seducing maybe 3 men in his life. He should be gunning for someone who might have Brian's emotional, social and sexual experience (esp since James LACKS all that) rather than being critical of these traits! YIKES! |
I think Andra has invested so much into this thing that I feel almost as bad for her as for James. When she's crying and saying "That's bull****" next week, I'm sure she feels betrayed herself by whomever is straight, and is really worried that James will be broken hearted.

I think it'd be interesting to see how everyone was grouped for the past eliminations b/c I think they've been hedging their bets THE WHOLE TIME to ensure a straight man made it to the end. Group 1. Jim (straight), Sean (straight), Dan (straight), Franklin (probably straight) Group 2. Michael (straight), Paul (straight), Robb (gay), Wes (probably gay) Group 3. Matthew (gay), Marc (gay), Darren (gay), Brian (probably gay) Because Group 1 were (probably) all straight, eliminating just one of them meant that at least 3 were left to continue. Plus, there were the 2 other straight guys in Group 2 (one of whom, Paul, got the boot). In Week 3: Group 1. Michael (s), Sean (s), Robb (g) Group 2. Matthew (g), Darren (g), Brian Group 3. Dan (s), Franklin, Wes In Week 4: Group 1. Darren (g), Brian Group 2. Robb (g), Wes Group 3. Sean (s), Franklin If Franklin is, indeed, straight, then the producers basically made James boot a gay guy (who he may have had a chance with) and forced him to keep a straight guy, who was only there to try and win $25,000. That just really sickens me. :yack: |
Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that is finding this show extremely manipulative and basically nasty, since its only object seems to be to make people uncomfortable under the guise of making them happy. I haven't watched many of the "reality" shows, and if this one were to disappear tomorrow, I for one would give a little cheer.

As much as I loathe the concept of this enterprise, I must say that it makes for compelling viewing, just for the fact that we have reached a new level in depravity and that this sort of programming is doing more damage than good - the lead was almost reduced to tears on the last voting off, and despite the obvious pros regarding this persons' entire package, there are some very disturbing flaws emerging - in fact, I wouldnt personally want to be a contestant knowing what I know from James so far. What other flaws can you really see in James? I think he must be a nice sort of person, but somewhat scum-ish as well.
I think that little guy Wes is the straight one but we'll have to wait. Whoever it is, I cant see the relationship lasting more than 2 weeks. Pity. |
What the heck do these straight guys get for posing as gay anyway? I don't think they're paid.

Oh, thanks.
James is a jerko? |
It's finally over.
A perfect example of a bad idea gone wrong. |
Although it was very cruel to James, I found the show really interesting. I felt really bad for Brian last night, but I guess Wes was the best pick for James. (Being Brian had been lusting for Dan. )

Having secret straight guys in the show is why I have not watched it. Manipulative BS.....
