well that was a complete surprise, Darren, gay who knew? Of course it was no surprise that Sean was straight. My bets are on that Franklin is straight, of course there is that one sound bite from Wes in next week's show where he says "why does he assume that I'm gay". If Wes is not gay, he is complete scum, cause he certainly is kissing up to James. Can't wait to see James' girlfriend whig out next week, over the news that James was imparted with that one of the finalists is straight - this show is really kinda cruel.

Gay or straight. This format (a la Bachelor and Bachelorette) is tired. I could barely watch the first episode and have no interest watching the others.

I was wondering if the house wasn't on fire with Andra in it from that clip for next week. :)

Anyway, Franklin is clearly the straight one remaining. Aside from the fact that I suspected that all along, his pushiness to talk last night at dinner paired with the producers "dividing" for the vote cinched it. They paired the two straight guys up to be decided between so that they could guarantee one straight guy would be left for the end. I think it'd be interesting to see how everyone was grouped for the past eliminations b/c I think they've been hedging their bets THE WHOLE TIME to ensure a straight man made it to the end. Of course, James doesn't know that Sean was straight so he'll not be able to realize this.

Personally, I find this show most insulting in terms of how the cast has been manipulated and shown in various "staged" conversations. I find it hard to believe that Andra and James had that "the bottom feels like it is going to drop out" conversation last night without being coaxed. The editing is also rather ridiculous. As far as the viewer knows, the "mates" hardly have a reason to be such intense friends with one another since we've hardly seen ANYONE be social (including James with any of the mates!). (Also Sean leaving Franklin a note with his phone number could be another "straight mates" tip off.)

I was also disturbed that ANDRA - the fag hag - has NEVER seen James kiss anyone until she saw James kiss Darren? What the HELL is THAT all about?!

James proved himself to be an even BIGGER prude last night with his "judgements" about Brian being a bartender. Um, I'm sorry but I'd rather date Brian than some low-level HR person who manages benefits all day and has been capable of seducing maybe 3 men in his life. He should be gunning for someone who might have Brian's emotional, social and sexual experience (esp since James LACKS all that) rather than being critical of these traits! YIKES!

I think Andra has invested so much into this thing that I feel almost as bad for her as for James. When she's crying and saying "That's bull****" next week, I'm sure she feels betrayed herself by whomever is straight, and is really worried that James will be broken hearted.

The groupings in Week 2 were:
Group 1. Jim (straight), Sean (straight), Dan (straight), Franklin (probably straight)
Group 2. Michael (straight), Paul (straight), Robb (gay), Wes (probably gay)
Group 3. Matthew (gay), Marc (gay), Darren (gay), Brian (probably gay)

Because Group 1 were (probably) all straight, eliminating just one of them meant that at least 3 were left to continue. Plus, there were the 2 other straight guys in Group 2 (one of whom, Paul, got the boot).

In Week 3:
Group 1. Michael (s), Sean (s), Robb (g)
Group 2. Matthew (g), Darren (g), Brian
Group 3. Dan (s), Franklin, Wes

In Week 4:
Group 1. Darren (g), Brian
Group 2. Robb (g), Wes
Group 3. Sean (s), Franklin

If Franklin is, indeed, straight, then the producers basically made James boot a gay guy (who he may have had a chance with) and forced him to keep a straight guy, who was only there to try and win $25,000.

That just really sickens me. :yack:

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that is finding this show extremely manipulative and basically nasty, since its only object seems to be to make people uncomfortable under the guise of making them happy. I haven't watched many of the "reality" shows, and if this one were to disappear tomorrow, I for one would give a little cheer.

As much as I loathe the concept of this enterprise, I must say that it makes for compelling viewing, just for the fact that we have reached a new level in depravity and that this sort of programming is doing more damage than good - the lead was almost reduced to tears on the last voting off, and despite the obvious pros regarding this persons' entire package, there are some very disturbing flaws emerging - in fact, I wouldnt personally want to be a contestant knowing what I know from James so far. What other flaws can you really see in James? I think he must be a nice sort of person, but somewhat scum-ish as well.

I think that little guy Wes is the straight one but we'll have to wait. Whoever it is, I cant see the relationship lasting more than 2 weeks. Pity.

big whoppa 08-22-03 05:03 AM

What the heck do these straight guys get for posing as gay anyway? I don't think they're paid.

They win $25K if they end up as the guy James picks. If it is a gay mate, they get to go on a vacation to New Zealand with James. Sounds like the gay mate would be getting the short end of the stick ending up with James. :(

big whoppa 08-22-03 10:17 AM

Oh, thanks.

James is a jerko?

marty888 09-03-03 09:43 AM

It's finally over.

A perfect example of a bad idea gone wrong.

rkndkn 09-03-03 12:42 PM

Although it was very cruel to James, I found the show really interesting. I felt really bad for Brian last night, but I guess Wes was the best pick for James. (Being Brian had been lusting for Dan. )

Having secret straight guys in the show is why I have not watched it. Manipulative BS.....

But we are equal...if it's ok to tell a bunch of straight women a guy is a millionaire when he's not, it's ok to fool a gay guy too. We've reached equality! :)
